I just tried to call the number the call came in on (land-line), and got the classic "Bell Operator Voice" recording: "This number cannot be reached by this method. Please hang up now"  

This tells me that he phone companies are in co-hoots with these rat-[***]-sons-of-[***]. Are they selling our numbers to these marketing companies? Seems likely. Who gave them this permission? Not me. How much of this muck do we have to dig through to find an answer? When will the consumer / tax payer actually have a say in this?

Same here, they called, left no message, I didn't answer.

This number just called. no ID. No response when I said hello. They simply hung up.

EXACT same thing just happened to me.

I've had this problem with them for quite a while now and I'm really fedup.
I've presse "2" about half a dozen times by now for by number to be removed and it hasn't.
I've talked to a representative, asking the same and got hung up on.
I've tried calling the number back and got an "this number is not in service response".
Could they be anymore anoying and disrespectfull??
I live in Saint-Hyacinthe in Québec and have no idea what to try next...

WARNING: THIS IS A SCAM OUTFIT. Woman told me that she was following up on a previous environmental survey and was calling me to inform me that I had won a choice of 2 prizes, either a four day trip to anywhere in North America or a "household item". The latter could be delivered immediately to me and my wife by an agent who happens to be in the neighbourhood. The trip as a choice, by now, had fallen by the wayside and
the woman hung up when I told her that my wife is not at home.

Pressed one, got the thick accented Indian, Knew name and assumed i had a mastercard and visa. Asked him to verify my account, called it bogus, he hung up.

These guys have called me a couple of times (I'm in Langley, BC). I haven't answered any of them, and have added them to my phone's call reject list (this is a cell phone). It's easy to spoof caller ID using an Internet-based phone service (I've used these services before - they let you enter anything you want for the caller ID. It's normally used so people call you back at the right number, but it can be used for nasty reasons, too).

Got a call from this number.  Got one the other day about some sort of credit card service (I didn't listen closely).  We have low interest rate cards and carry no balance, anyway.  Pressed "2" to be removed from their call list.

And the beat goes on..................

I live in Montreal and just received yet another call from this number.  This time, I answered and the recording said "press 1 if you wish to speak to a representative", "press 2 if you wish to be removed from the list". I pressed 2 and of course I heard the message "this option is invalid"...So I pressed 1, it rang for a few seconds and a lady answered the phone. I asked her do you know that you are calling Canada? And she answered yes Maam. Well don't call me again, Please remove me from your list!! Please remove me from your list! Do you understand? "Yes Maam".  Then I hung up.
Hopefully that will be the end of it.

nuisance call.  calling with no one there and hangup.

I get phone calls almost daily. I don't normally pick up and they never leave a message. once I did pick up once, ( i shouldn't have) and I said i do not carry a credit card balance, which is true. they hung up on me but keep on calling. very annoying. I put them on call block.

I have been getting these calls for a few months now. I asked the gentleman who answered if he was happy scamming people for a living?
He said this is the first time he has called me, then called me a "[***]" and hung up.

I find it much more entertaining to mess with them, but this is crazy and needs to stop!!!!!!

This number just called my home phone number, in Quebec. I did not pick it up. No message left.

Just received a call. In general, I do not answer my phone unless I know the number. I first Google the number to see who it is. If I am directed here, I STORE the number on my CELL Phone as a contact and then I block the call!. What this does is insure that it does not ring. Only if they leave a message on my voice mail am I alerted to the call. They almost never leave a message. I have over a dozen such callers in my contact list and am bothered less and less. Of course, I often use Google Talk, which is free and shows up as a California number, to call back the caller. There have been times when it was legit.

Block the callers.

I picked up the phone when I saw this number as it has been calling over and over again.  I pressed a number to speak to someone and asked to be removed from their call list and the guy just hung up on me.  I called the number back and it says it isn't in service.  Scammers!

I got a call from this number and I the foolish man that I was gave them my card number and other particulars
I realised that it was part of a scam
I immediately called mastercard as to what happened

Same recorded message as above. Recieved call at 5.53pm in Ottawa on Feb. 15. Good ol' DNC list.  Another government screw up...

the same here as others have mentioned...no mention who they are representing.  i tried phoning them back & the number is not in service.  block this call folks, most certainly a scam.
