I too received the same email and then a followup email with the phone number (301) 741-4870. thanks for the heads up I suspected it was a scam!  here they are:

Yep - just got the same message for selling a bunk bed.  Like selling a bunk bed would be "important and urgent".  I like how it says "your town" - like that doesn't tip you off.  I'm so glad I googled this phone # - they must have a robo email generator that sends the emails.  Bizarre!

Got the same message from good ole Maria.  Thought is weird that it was signed Maria but the email sender was Teanna.Houston@ yahoo.com.  Thanks for posting your info so I could be aware.   Be on the lookout also for Earl Lucas who wants to let his mover pick up the item.

Apparently "Maria" has changed her name in the last 12 hours.

Just received the EXACT same email as all of the above, except it was not signed "Maria".
It was also in response to a Craigslist ad.

This one came from "odonko dammie <lordsofmonitries@gmail.com>".

Hope this new information helps someone catch him/her/them!

P.S. Probably unrelated.. but I just remembered that we received a phone call about an hour before this email was sent.  Answered and got total silence.  No caller ID.  Our phone # was listed in the Craigslist ad.

P.P.S.  Why are these posts not in chronological order?  Just curious.

I got this message from Craigslist. I actually think that if you reply, they steal your email address and use it for the same scam. I was going to reply via email, but something about the out of state phone number struck me as odd, so I googled it. This is what I found! Thanks to all who have posted!!

Thanks for all your posts. Just got the same identical email regarding an item on craigslist. Same thing. The name of Maria didn't match the name on the email address and the phone number area code caught me as odd 301-741-4870. Folks, stick to your gut instinct. If it seems odd, it probably is and all of you have helped confirm my gut. Thanks!

I too had Odonko Dammie contact me RE a Craigslist ad.  He used the exact wording as he did with Jeff.

Just got the same email as most in response to a listing on Craigslist, Phoenix.  Thankfully, I Googled the number and appreciate all the postings you have attached to it.

Same thing here. We never called the number, but got emails with virtually identical if not identical elements to those that have been mentioned previously. I might have missed it earlier in this thread, but I'd also like to chip in the info that 10000 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy in Charlotte, N.C., is the address of a hotel (The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge).

We're lucky that I'm paranoid. My wife has been handling the Craigslisting (if that's a word) and we got to the point of receiving the check (more bad news: They have our address and my wife's name). The "CitiBank" logo is printed in absolutely horrible resolution, and small print on the "check" states that it was printed at 8:58 p.m. Know any banks with a lobby that's open at 8:58 p.m.? Me, either.

I was just about to call CitiBank to check on the validity of the check when I thought first to do a Google search for this "Maria Holmes" and Craigslist, leading to this site.

For what it's worth, we did just file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
