- dp| 1 replyWell all of you are nitwits I do not have a BOA card never had it and never will have a card with one of the large gouge my [***] banks. So this is fraud and if the [***] call me again I will report them to the authorities so whoever the [***] is calling me from 3027311166 stop the [***] and leave me alone.
- Sir Bedevere replies to dpDP, you are probably correct about the call you received being fraudulent. But the people saying it's legit are probably *also* correct: It's very easy to falsify Caller ID these days, so the scammers looking for victims can make their Caller ID match a genuine BOA phone number.
In other words, sometimes calls that appear to come from this number are really BOA and sometimes they're scammers. The average person has to way to tell which.
The con artists who perpetrate these scams are well aware of 800notes.com — they frequently post "It's legit!" comments to obvious scams. It's quite likely they also read this site looking for legitimate phone numbers to spoof.
All calls of this type should be treated as if they were fraudulent until proven otherwise. When you get one, just end the call quickly and phone your financial institution using the number on the back of your card. - GandalfThere is a simple reason for all this confusion: some of these calls are legit, but some of them are not. And the reason for that is because some of the scammers actually work for Bank of America in their call centers. So yes, they are Bank of America, but they are also the ones who put the fraudulent charge on your credit card. Check out this Tampa Bay Tribune 2010 news report at http://www2.tbo.com/news/news/2010/jun/02/ex- ... fraud-ar-38466/ and this report at http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/060710- ... ker-pleads.html
BoA has known about this for years, but obviously has not done anything to protect their customers. When you get one of these calls that asks you for information instead of giving you information, you are being scammed to give the crooks full access to all of your other accounts. So yes, when you call the number on the back of your card, BoA will confirm fraudulent charges on your card, but those charges were likely made by the person who called you from the 302-731-1166 call center.- Caller: 302-731-1166
- MSSCHMITY replies to AJI got called today and I don't even have a BOA account it is fake.
- SandraHello,
This is a Legit number. I received a call from them (FIA) and then gave them my information. Then I saw this website and all the comments and was worried. So I called the Card Service number on the back of my credit card. They verified that the company is the part of their fraud department and the BOA person I spoke with new the name of the person from the 310-731-1166 number. He verified everything!
So this is NOT a fraud number. It is just outsourcing jobs!- Caller: FIA
- MattI got a phone call from this number, this morning. They didn't leave a voice mail or answer when I called back. I checked the Bank of America website and sure enough my cc account was flagged (for fraudulent purchases).
- Call type: Debt collector
- MiaI got a call from Bank of America. "Card Service" was on my caller ID. They asked my personal information: SS number and card number but I didn’t give them this information
- Caller: Bank of America
- Acct. HolderThis is legitimate! When you get a call from this number; call the number on the back of your card immediately! Caller id'd this number; it was under card services; suspicious so called number on the back
of my card, while on hold BofA fraud dept called on a different number....they were calling to confirm
if two recent charges were mine or not (they quickly detailed the charges which I had in fact made the
night before). I later called the fraud dept (i'd on phone)and they did confirm that this is a legitimate
customer service number. If you ever get a call that is suspicious, go online* check it out, call the number
you know is legitimate: the one on the back of the card! If it is different from the initial contact number ASK
them if it is a fraudulent number or not! Never give out personal info with initial contact! If they are
legitimate, they will have a number you can call back on after verifying it first. *I mentioned to check it out
first online so if it is for the most part posted as a fraudulent one it's helpful to the company to have this
information. When it comes to your credit avoid online posts that say it's a scam! Call BofA directly
(again back of your card!) to make sure! Better safe than sorry!- Caller: Card Services
- AnonFor the argument of whether its fake or not, both might be true. I've received a legit call, but it looks like some people are getting scam calls as well. The system is automated from this number, so if someone, especially sounding like they barely speak English, starts speaking, it's probably a red flag. If you don't have Bank of America, the same applies. What people don't seem to understand is that the number showing on the caller ID can be faked. So even if it shows a legit number on your caller ID, there might be a scam group out there taking advantage of that. If you're cautious, hang up and call them up yourself or they will email you with the same issue.
- Jenny replies to DexterYou are exactly right. I got a call this morning. I would not talk to them. Then I called Bank of America and they confirmed that it was they who called. If this happens to you again, just call your credit card number and
check it out. It is better to be safe instead of sorry and it is better to call your credit card immediately to make sure everything is okay. - Jenny replies to DexterYou are exactly right. They caught someone trying to charge a Groupon transaction to my card. They are going to cancel my Bank of America credit card immediately and issue a new one. They did not ask for any personal information - I just had to verify my zip code and last 4 digits of the card. Do not ignore this call.

- Bryan replies to TheresaReceived a call from this number today. No message was left so I looked it up here and found your post. I have a BOA CC so I called customer service. The rep told me that he hasn't heard of the number and that there was no fraudulent activity on my card. He tried calling the number with me on three-way and it was busy. He said that fraud services would never be busy and he urged me not to give any information to anyone calling from that number.
- Helen17567| 2 repliesLook - I don't have any accounts with Bank of America so I don't see why they'd be calling me about fraudulent activity. I have a hard time believing that this many people would sign in to a site like this to defend a legitimate number - I believe they are all written by the people behind this number. If you are not sure, I recommend not giving this number any information - NOT EVEN YOUR ZIP CODE - THAT IS IDENTIFYING INFORMATION ON CREDIT CARDS!!! - don't even answer, just call your bank directly using a number that you know is legit.
- Sid replies to Helen17567| 1 replyLook - ???? What a demeaning way to start a sentence...
- Helen17567 replies to SidSo so so sorry (and baffled) that you were offended by that. Doesn't change the importance or the validity of the info in the post, though.
- ZachGot a call from this number a few minutes ago. Never answer unknown out of state calls so did a quick google search and found this site. Called the number on the back of my card and it registered the card being in a fraud alert state. It listed the last 8 charges and I confirmed them.
The number is legitimate, but safe practice is to always call the number on your card.- Caller: Bank of America Fraud Department
- BobJust a thought: I received a call from this number and it was indeed BofA. My account was frozen due to a computer fraud alert. The matter was resolved very quickly.
I never use the call itself; I thank them and then use the Bank's web site or the 800 number on the card.
For those that are saying it is a fraud; they are probably correct as well. Since it is a trivial matter to spoof caller id it would be a simple matter for fraudsters to fake a valid fraud number and begin a fraud compaign.
So, this number is both real and a fraud. If you get a call like this; thank them, hang up, and use a known secure channel to verify and resolve the issue.- Caller: Bank of America

- ChicagoI did not pick up when this number called as I did not recognize the number. Once I read the posts on this site, I called the 800 number on the back of my card to see if there was anything wrong. Turns out, a VERY large purchase was made in New York (while I was in the Chi) using my card - the card was physically swiped! The customer service representative was extremely helpful. He shut my card down and ensured the charges were denied. I am grateful for the fantastic monitoring practices of BOA as my other card is not nearly this responsive.
That being said, I work in the financial services industry and HIGHLY recommend that you NEVER give personal information to anyone if you are not absolutely certain you know who you are speaking with. Always just call the number on the back of your card! Better safe than sorry.- Caller: BOA
- Tin ManJust got a call from this number, typed it in google, then came on here to see what was being said. Obviously alot of mixed views so i was curious to find out whether its legit or not.
No voicemail had been left. And i wasnt about to phone it straight back.
Phoned BoA direct off the back of my card, and they had not heard of the number. They also could not see any dodgey transactions within the past few days as i reeled off what transactions i had made.
Either way i dont THINK its legit but at the same time it could be given other peoples views.
As far as im concerened, my view is just phone BoA directly, dont give any info to this number. That way everything can be resolved and no one gets hurt.- Caller: 302-731-116
