- RoseThey called this afternoon while my husband and I were t work. My brother in law answered the phon and the guy didn't identify himself but stated my husband's rank and full name. Decided to look it up on a hunch and came up with this website and few others reporting the number scam thing. All I know know isI'm going to keep calling to the dumba**es talk with me and if not gonna do something about it. No telling who they have scammed so far.
- JudeI got a call from them today, didnt answer, called back and heard the same DoD mailbox message.
- Military WifeGot a call from this phone number on Jan 07 2008 at 2056. I picked up the call and then lost it due to bad service area. When I called it back it said the Department of Defense just like everyone above. With my husband over seas I called Staff Duty to find out anything I could. They knew nothing of it. This is a very sick joke, someone needs to stop them they put alot of worry out there with this kind of mess.
- Army WifeGot a call from this number MULTIPLE times in the last week! I am bad about leaving my phone in the car and i have missed the call everytime. As everyone else has done i googled the area code and later the number which got me here. At one point they even called at 2230. When i called back i got the same thing...no answer, voicemail box is full!! It is scary that people in this world target military families!
- Military WifeI received the same call twice...I did't answer either time as I was unable to take teh call...and calling back doesnt help because the mail box is always full. I am glad I googled this because I was concerened that it was the DoD given that my husband is military! It is a sad day in this country when people can't support the military and try to scam them instead!
- Call type: Valid
- Retired Military ManGot this twice, last night 8pm and today 230pm. Not answering it, but call b ack is same as everyone else. Thought it was something to do with military records, but aware of where those are really kept and where muy POC's are for anything I need is. Love to answer it and give them ^&%*& right back..
- Caller: Ameritech phone provider, DOD is voice
- Army WifeI got the same call at 530pm. I missed it but called back when I saw DOD. It said that they were the department of defense and the mailbox was full. It bothered me because my husband is in Iraq so I called about two more times then googled the number. I'm so glad I did because now I see that there are really people out there targeting military families.
- Caller: DOD
- Army manMy wife of 2 weeks received that very same call today at 1530 I am wondering how they got her number.
- Masked1Got a call from this number and same stuff, they have tried calling before. When I answered the phone just clicked off. Called it back to find the mail box for the DOD is full. Didnt get to talk to any one.
- Caller: Dept of Defense
- Military RetireeRecieved a call from 312-409-4702 at 1506 hours, 12 Jan 2008. A Lady stating
that she was from Department of Defense and that she was conducting a survey
on our use of TRICARE. At the time, I was busy. I managed to put her off.
I googled the number and learned this could very well be a scam after reading the above complaints/comments.- Caller: Dept of Defense
- ETHEL NESMITHSame as everyone else's
- friendAlso received various calls from this number. We are dual military. I confronted the woman and asked her how tricare was directly connected with DOD. She said she didn't know. I also asked her how come DOD was located in Illinois? She said she was calling from an area code starting with 5 something. I told her to get her facts straight before she tries to scam someone. I also told her that it was a federal offense. I told her never to call back and that I was going to let all of FT Bragg know about this through our S2 channels. She sounded like she was going to cry and hung up.
- Caller: Dept of Defense
- army wifeGot this call at 8:00 pm and it freaked me out being since my husband is deployed at the moment. called back and got the same mailbox full message so I'm guessing it's a scam. I've heard of these calls targeting military families so atleast I would have been prepared. Hopefully noone is falling for it.
- LorettaIt is Feb 1, 2008 and I just recieved a call from this same number, but I dont usually answer numbers that I dont recognize. So I put the number in here and I read all of these statements, and being as we are active duty military, I was very skeptical. So I called the number back. Just as everyone said, a voice mail with a guy saying that it is the DOD. Why are they targeting military? Dont they realize we have enough things going on???
- Loretta...againThey called my phone again on Feb. 3, 2008 and said he was from the Dept. of Defense. I told the guy about the research that I had done, and what it all said, and he kept going on and on about how it wasn't a scam and this, that and the other. He said that he wanted to talk to my husband. So testing him, I asked why he wanted to talk to him. He said it was on behalf of him being sent home from Iraq because he got hurt...which is true. But here is the part that I was testing him on. Anyone in the military KNOWS that someone calling about something like this CANNOT tell anyone but the person they are calling for why they are calling. So right then I knew he wasn't from the dept. of defense. I knew it was a scam. But I let him talk to my husband anyway, cause he would tell him where he could put his little test. That guy haggled my husband for almost half an hour! Saying that he really was from the D.O.D. and all this. Finally we hang up. Just wanted to let everyone know about how extremely rude this guy was!!!!
- armywife| 1 replyOK so i got this call round 1800, i happened to be talking to my husband on yahoo at the time. I knew it had to be a cell phone because we had a bad connection. He kept saying Hello, hello....This guy claimed he was from the DOD asking about our insurance. I told him my husband was unavailable and he said has he recently been deployed or is he about to be deployed, and I was like, why do you ask, then he hung up... What a dummy... like i was going to tell him. Anyway, my husband says hes going to CID, and I will do the same. It freaked me out a little bit. I got his ass next time.
- Caller: Voice ID says Dept. of Defense
- Monica replies to armywifeI work at HNFS/TRICARE - No such survey is being conducted. Never release information without knowing exactly to whom you are talking to. Any survey we take does not involve protected health information. Which is why we annoy people each time they call by verifying name, ssn, address, dob and will not release information unless this is known by the one calling and they have legal right to the information. BE CAREFUL
- SusanneThis number called today, my caller id shows up on my tv screen.. i see dept of defense and panic racing for the phone, too late, i try to call back and it says the mailbox is full, press 1 to disconnect!
I cried. My husband is in the Army, he's not home and i get a call from the dept of defense! who would do such a thing??
i tried to look this number up online and then realized ( since we live in northern VA) it's not even a DC number. then i found this site.
i'm reporting this to the FTC and anybody else that is willing to listen.
I ALREADY SIT BY THE PHONE AND CRINGE WHEN IT RINGS I DONT NEED PEOPLE PRETENDING TO BE MILITARY TO CAUSE ME TO HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN!
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! - nancI got a missed call on my home phone from this number. It is Sunday at 4:30pm. I was a bit worried seeing the Department of Defense on the caller I.D. My soon to be ex husband is in the Navy but he is home on a 2 week leave. Now I no not to call this number back. Does anyone no yet who this is and why they are calling?
- RmosI got a call 4/13, 4/14, 4/15 from this number. I answered the phone the first time but no one answered me back. I know they were still on the other line because my phone said still connected. It was strange. So the next couple of days I just ignored the call. It has been bothering me so I decided to google the number and I get this website. My husband is in the military and he lists MY cell number for everything he fills out. It is scary to read all these posts, as I am sure we are ALL not the only ones. I wonder if anyone is going to do anything about this. I JUST MIGHT SEND A WORD TO THE MEDIA. THIS IS DEFINITELY WRONG!
