I find it humorous that people who want to scam us are too lazy (irritated sniff) to even take the time to put a personal touch on it,  perhaps they have a Mumbai Mafia accent and know the jig would be up once we hear them?  Harumpf (said indignantly)!

Same thing here.  Called my cell phone, which isn't listed anywhere:  I just buy minutes anonymously at the store and my personal information isn't attached to it.  I didn't answer.  I did come here to validate, though, because I do volunteer work at home, and some people move without changing their cell phone number.  If no one complains here, I can always return the call and explain why I didn't answer, we all get these scam calls and people forgive me once I explain and we both have a laugh, and then get down to the business at hand.  So I come here, to see what y'all have to say.  Thanks, everyone!

...  Why not?  Of course they can, and do.  Your phone number is "owned" or generated by your phone company, and we just "rent" them.  The companies don't have to be concerned about the content of calls, just that the "renter" pays their bill on time.  Be aware that even though they own the number, Federal law in the US allows you "portability," meaning you can take it with you when you change carriers.  They have to do that, even though some TV ads make it sound like they're doing something special by letting you transfer the number to the new company.  They have to allow portability.  I am getting so tired of all this nonsense.

Actually, 2-3 a day isn't bad...  I know a woman who says she gets 40 a day, and why she doesn't just change her number, I cannot fathom...  especially since she works in the executive offices of Century Link.  She answers, so the callers know it's an active number.  I've gotten them for two years, now...  Once they start, it's like an STD that keeps being passed around.  I've found that by ignoring these calls, I have reduced them significantly, often to none, sometimes a few.  I wear earplugs to bed because my parrots are so cheerful and noisy at sunrise, and it also means the scammers cannot wake me up.  And the rest of the day, I just listen to my call screening and check CID, and ignore the call.  Except for a few lately that are more inventive, I can tell that they're scammers, and if unsure, I come to this website.

This is a bogus/inactive number.  The call terminated as I was answering it.  Thought it might be a potential client, so I called it back and I got a recording saying the number was either inactive or had been changed.
