Actually, the best possible thing would be for these ass-hats to quit bothering people who have made it clear, via the Do Not Call Registry, they do not want to be bothered.

The National DO NOT CALL Registry does not apply to non-profit organizations.

Do your research on Non Profit Fundraising...then try and make a solid claim for your stance.

If a school does not have a large alumni base or is on a tight budget, they will sometimes have RuffaloCODY call their alumni from the Cedar Rapids HQ, hence the 319 area code.

This is an outside fundraiser for University of Southern California law school (USC) and other schools....

The name Thon Phona and the number 319-730-2668 came up on my caller ID.  Not recognizing it, I let it go to my answering machine.  There was no recording.   I set my caller ID device to reject any further attempts to call us.

The name Thon Phona number 319-730-2668 called my home phone and when I answered a women responded claiming to be from the NRA (National Rifle Association) She asked me if I was a gun owner and she was offering me a 2 years membership for only $30.00 and that I can sign up using my credit card. When I asked her to give me her name so I can call the NRA my self to verified, she hang up on me.
Might be telemarketing calls but asking for credit card numbers is a different story.

Yeah, they are pests.  Many calls, no messages.  I do have to give them credit for the name.  Ruffalocody.  A combination of Buffalo Bill and his real last name Cody.  Regardless of their creativity, they are still pests.

yes they are bound by the telemarketing rules - BECAUSE THEY ARE A 3RD PARTY- not the actual charity.    

Telemarketers who make calls across state lines on behalf of charitable organizations must comply with certain federal standards:

They are calling me too and i pleadged to give but they sent the letter to my old house.  They should have gotten it right the first time...

But isn't it funny the caller ID: Phona Thon?  Get it?  Phone-a-thon?
At least they are trying to tell you :)

1-319-730-2688, called, asked for me by name,then hung up. The male voice did not identify why he called or why he called. They called my home line. The Caller ID said Phona Thon. I googled that number and found this web site. The call seems consistent with these oyher descriptions so I will not answer if that number tries calling again.

They called & no one on the line. Caller ID said "THON PHONA".

I started getting 2X calls per day from Thon Phona about a week ago.  Number was 319-730-2688.  I didn't answer and they don't leave a message.  After a week I figured I would google them.  I was surprised to find this site and all this info.

They've been calling me so I decided to return the call. Got a voicemail box and left dead air for them too. Will continue to return the favor every time these [***] call.

They have called several times - when I pick up they ask for me by name.  I don't tell them it's me and they immediately hang up.  I am on the DND list but it isn't helping with these types of calls.

Excuse me, but many (if not all) of us are listed on the Do Not Call list and therefore should not have to even come close to asking them to take us off their list. WE ALREADY DID THIS THROUGH THE NATIONAL DATABASE!!!  I'm sorry if you work there, but they should be fined at the highest amount, along with the individual who is doing the calling.  That will put a stop to all this.

Actually, if you read the rules more explicitly, since it isn't the University that is doing the calling, the call center (located in another state nonetheless) is required to follow the same telemarketing rules as any other vendor.  Only the university can be held to the "non-profit" and "pre established relationship" rules, not an anonymous call center.  Plus, the caller ID must state that it is the University that is calling.  Fine them!  Jail them!
