This is apparently not a charity - they are not listed with the IRS in Publication 78 and they have not filed a IRS form 9900.

From their webpage @  http://www.clothingpickupflorida.com/    They say, "Charity Clothing Pickup Service collects all clothing and household items which are then sold in bulk to thrift stores."  I suspect they own the thrift stores! And maybe they contribute something to the Red Cross.  Anyway, try calling them at:  636-282-0000 and complain.  Since they are not a charity,  I am also complaining at the do not call registry.

This is usually a Red Cross donation pick up if it is from Merchandise Pic. Usually they have a caller ID. This time there wasn't one. I don't answer without a caller ID or a voice mail.

This number calls daily several times.   They are either crooks, idiots or some other form of lowlife individuals who attempt to gain access to private information or a family's comings and goings.   This number needs to be traced and action needs to be taken against these abusers.

They are thrift stores looking for free merchandise. They get your number when you donate to Amvets or the Red Cross. Those real charities should step in and make them stop harassing people or their donations will dry up. Just follow Jojos advice above to block their calls.

These people call numerous times. Have been doing this for months. Lately, they have been calling and if no answer they call back in a few minutes. If this is, indeed, related to the American Red Cross. I will donate my used clothing to the Salvation Army. The Red Cross should be ashamed to associate with these people. There is someone in this house who workes the night shift and is awakened twice around 8Am to 9Am. Then they will call from 7PM to 8 or 9PM. They do not leave a message. I will report this as a harassing call.

Many call from this number at all hours. Picked up to silence, no voice.  Contacted my server and have had the number blocked.

    Mmmm
This is one more reason to not donate to the corrupt and inept American Red Cross.

Ann Anon has the right idea.
Give your items to a reputable organization - The Salvation Army.

We get several calls a day from this number.  There is never anyone who talks when (my husband) answers (I do not answer).   After reading the other posts here I doubt they are a legitimate "charity" organization.  If I have things to donate I call Goodwill, Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity...just saying...or ask the preacher in our neighborhood if he has any needy families that can use my things.

The American Red Cross is not a Federal ran agency.  Despite a close relationship with the federal government, the American Red Cross is not a federal agency, nor does it receive federal funding on a regular basis to carry out its services and programs. It receives its financial support from voluntary public contributions and from cost-recovery charges for some of its services, such as the provision of blood and blood products and health and safety training courses. This American Red Cross web site is very informative as to its beginning, charter commitments to the U.S. and how it operates.

Now let us give the information that we can on this company, from someone who worked there.

The company is Merchandise Pickup Services. Their website is:

    http://www.clothingpickupstl.com/

They call for the following charities:

In St Louis - Childrens Home Society, Red Cross, Womens Another Chance, St John Bosco

In Texas - Rainbow House, Texas Paralyzed Veterans, Adapt of Texas

    In Florida - Red Cross

The calls are made by computers, with people on the other end to ask if you would like to donate any used clothing or small household items. (Most people who say no one is there hang up too soon)

When they call, they do not need to "fish" for information, they have it in front of them (address as listed, etc), and do not ask for money.

Now as for the calls, there are options to either Answering Machine/Busy (which calls back), no (which is they wont call back til next pickup time), yes (which is a yes for a pickup, and they will call back as a reminder the night before), and Irate/Remove from list

They changed the rules recently on who is removed from list.  Now you have to SPECIFY to be removed from the list (which does for a few years).  Or Specify you are on the no call list, or other things like that.  Saying you are not interested will not do it, and it just is hit no.  Hanging up on us will not just do it, it will be a no.  Cussing at us till not do it either, it will be a no. You HAVE to ANSWER and say remove from list, and we have to.  Call the number and complain also, and have them remove you from the list as well.

As for call backs, Yes, they are frequent. If we do not get a person or answering machine, or the person we need to talk to. We hit call back, and it dials later.  We do that til like 7pm (8pm Florida time) when we THEN can leave a message to set out your items.  They are stupid enough besides us calling, to have an automated system ALSO doing recorded messages as reminders.

The hours of shifts are 8-12pm (9-1pm Florida), 5-9pm (6-10pm Floriida) with EARLIER Calls on Mondays and Saturdays.  Saturdays are forced on the employees.

As for what they do with the items, they are picked up and sold thru stores, such as Family Value.  100% does NOT go to the charities. First they pay the pickup drivers, the people selling in the stores, office management, and of course the small employees - the solicitors. (Which btw, they pay 7.50$ an hour, plus a bonus on YES pickups that are successful, and .25cents per email collecting for their mailing list for pickups.  No the emails are not sold to others and are safe with the company.  They do not offer raises, even if there longer than a year or two).

They have a high turn around because they keep changing the rules, thus people may hit the wrong button and get fired (and refuse to pay unemployment), and do not give a chance to fix it half the time, unless you know right away. They do not have any hiring standards, as they have hired ex cons, people on probation, and even sex offenders, as well as foreign kids that do not know what to do half the time.

Now the plus side is, you do get a tax receipt for your donations, which is blank and you can fill out anything.  Bad side is if you do not label your items, it does not get picked up.  If you put it out 8am, it may not get picked up.

Now remember, if you want them to STOP, you have to answer then tell them to remove from the list.  Not cuss, not hang up, not say you are not interested. You have to SAY REMOVE ME FROM THE LIST.  Do not take it out on the people on the other end, they do not know how often they call people. Blame the office, managers, and more.  The callers are just people trying to do a job, and its not their fault the office doesnt care about who they call.  If you WANT to DONATE, that is file, it can take about as much as a few minutes to say yes, confirm your address, and give an email if you want. (If you are interested in donating and do not want the CALLS all the time, then give an email and ask for EMAIL ONLY). You can also ask to limit the calls to once a year, twice a year, every other month, which can help too.

IF you want more info. You can call this 800 number, or call 314-416-0320 that is the employee line also, they also are located at 2930 Telegraph Road in St Louis 63125.  Don't be stupid about it. They are not a con, they are not fishing for personal info as they already have the address and everything.  They are asking for old clothes and any other small junk you do not want.  If you want to complain, call them.  The callers that call are not responsible and are more innocent than anything. You got to realize how you people are when you answer too and act like a$$holes.

Even better - contact the Companies that use them, such as:

In St Louis - Childrens Home Society, Red Cross, Womens Another Chance, St John Bosco

In Texas - Rainbow House, Texas Paralyzed Veterans, Adapt of Texas

    In Florida - Red Cross

And tell them to Quit using MPS as their clothing collections, or even complain to Family Value.  It will be the one way to get them to stop, or at least change how they are doing.

Or even complain about who they hire as well.  I for one would not want someone that is an abuser of women calling me.  Ask them to get ride of ANY employee that is a convict, on probation, or a registered person.

Receiving unwanted phone calls from this (407) 854 - 7180 number just about every day for the last several months which tend to occur from the early morning until 9:00 PM in the evening.

I have implemented / signed up for both the National Do Not Call List as well as the State of Florida "Do Not Call List", however, these calls continue to occur.

Could someone please look into whomever is responsible for these calls originating from this number.

    Thanks.
