- pw replies to ErI agree this is aggravating. I've looked up some numbers on reverse directory. Some are Likely unsuspecting people whose number is being used. In CA the Pacific Gas & Electric has had their toll free number used by scammers & they posted a notice on their website. All scams going after personal financial information. I've stopped answering numbers I don't know forever on my landline. If you answer you notify the caller that line is active & your number is sold to other scammers. Have learned that info from other complaints on 800Notes.
- harrassed seniorthey call more than my family obvious the do not call registry is there in name only, I seem to be getting more calls this summer than ever
- Caller: DPSF
- Heinz57 replies to BeansterThe Panasonic KX-TGE270 can only block 250 numbers-(see page 46 of owners manual)."Call block-This feature rejects calls from unwanted callers (Caller ID subscribers only). The following items are available when storing
phone numbers in the call block list (250 max.)."
I have a Panasonic KX-TG6845B which also has a 250 number capacity. My phone has the ability to block ranges of numbers (i.e...area codes) with as few as 2 digits which makes blocking entire ranges (multiples) of area codes very easy. I do not know if the KX-TGE270 have the same capability. I really like my phone as it has allowed me to block about 96% of all possible area codes (real, fake and toll free). I am an aggressive blocker. I love the silence. What works for me may not work for other people. - post pending moderator approval

» Your post here will NOT stop the calls. We did not call you. Your caller probably does not read these messages. We cannot block calls to you. We cannot put you on or take you off the list. We do not know who you are, and we do not know your phone number!Click_This_Line_for_Info_About_the_DNC_ListThe National Do Not Call list is respected by legitimate telemarketers, but is ignored by criminal telescammers.
Surveys, charities, political calls, NON-sales calls and certain preexisting business calls are exempt from the DNCL.
Business phones do not qualify for DNCL protection.Click_This_Line_for_Info_About_800Notes_PurposeFind out who is calling and why: Debt collectors, telemarketers, charities, and survey companies often call without leaving a message. Lookup the number to read the previous reports of other users.
Report telemarketing calls: Make the Do Not Call list offenders notice the problem by reporting their practices. No business wants bad publicity.
Report phone fraud: Did someone try to scam you? Reporting the number is the fastest way to make public aware, and prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
Check out a business: Read other users' feedback about the phone number owner.
»YOU are your own best defense against unwanted calls! You can use a call blocking app, device, service or procedure to block such calls.Click_This_Line_for_Methods_to_Block_CallsHere are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls:
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free call blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear future calls from that number.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (This is also called "whitelisting", and will cause you to miss calls from non-whitelisted numbers, so be careful!)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. For landlines: there are several call blocking devices and services available. Use your favorite search engine to find one.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live". Instead, read this:

Please reply to this post, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself. - Realtor| 1 replyCalled at 8 PM on Labor day. Nobody on the line. The Caller ID said DPSF. Reported on Whitepages.com as " Fraud asking for donations for families of wounded/killed police and firefighters." Now blocked. I use the Panasonic cordless phone model which holds 250 numbers. As I get close to that number, I start deleting the oldest numbers until I have about 30 open slots. It is worth the effort, even though spammers change their numbers. The system blocks numerous calls every week, and when I look them up on this site, I often find that the number has been used for months, or even years. So yes, they can get through once. But only once!
- Anyone replies to RealtorMy basic rule these days is not to give ANY INFO TO COLD CALLERS! You never know for sure who is really calling you. Always call direct from a verified phone number.
- tired-of-nuisance-callsReceived a call from 440-596-5815, CallerID showing only "Cleveland OH". This calling number is already blocked using my call blocker device. I assume every unknown call, especially from out of state, is a scam caller using a spoofed phone number.
- Caller: Cleveland OH
- ran replies to Ermaybe we should call forward to the telephone co.
- R.B.I never answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. This one is no different. Caller ID displayed Cleveland, Oh. Don't know anyone there. I am sick of the number of unsolicited calls I get. Thank you for your website.
- Caller: Cleveland, Oh
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Bartholomew RobertsI don't know how caller does this; at the top of my CID display, (the display on my call blocker) it read HOME, 3 lines down, DPSF. Usually the CID displays one line then the number. Callers who refuse to speak when you answer the phone, are either (1) finding out if anyone is home, to set up a burglary, or (2) they get sicko pleasure out of harassing the public, or, maybe (3) call center owner expects you to stay on the line and wait for one of his dirt bags to get around to answering you.
- Caller: Another sicko
- GooyoungCaller ID said DPFS What ever that means, I didn't answer it and left it go to my answering machine didn't finish my message and hung up.
- Caller: DPFS
- Janet| 2 repliesDPSF on caller ID. My number is registered on Do-Not-Call website. Does that even do anything at all to stop these calls? It must not, because I get calls like this on my land line and 2 cell phones every day, sometimes 2 -3 times a day, always from a different number.
- Caller: DPSF

Fact: The Do Not Call list is NOT a call blocker!
The DNC list is a LIST, subscribed to / purchased by legitimate telemarketers, so they know who not to call
Fact: Scammers and spammers ignore the DNC list.
Many use "war dialers" to quickly dial phone numbers. After all, phone numbers are just numbers, and are no secret!
Fact: The DNC list does not apply to NON-sales calls, such as political calls, charities, surveys, debt collectors and businesses with which you have done business with during the previous 18 months.
Fact: Spam callers can be blocked by getting a real call blocker.
Google is your friend.
