This is a legitimate credit fraud protection service calling me to verify whether or not I placed an online order with Macy's. They left me a voicemail and I called back, entered the reference number they gave me through an automated phone service and verified that I did indeed place the order. I don't mind having this extra layer of protection and it was painless.

Sounded fishy, but it was in fact Macy's reaching out to me about an order I didn't place. The order was placed in my name through a fraudulent web store and Macy's was trying to verify everything. They said this happens frequently and is usually from eBay scams and they were able to cancel the order.

This is customer service number from Macys, also handling orders from bloomingdales. They called customers from this number to verify if your number on file is correct, they also sent you an email if you did not answer. If no further action was taken, seems like they will cancel the order you've placed recently.

I'm confused how this happens, because some say it is a legit Macy's number and others are stating that they have no account with Macy's. I fall into the latter category. Also, even if I did, I NEVER give my cell phone number to my credit account holders nor any other type of business. So how did they get mine?

513-398-5221.  This is a legit Fraud and Prevention for Macy's and Bloomingdale's phone number.  I had so many issues with my Bloomingdale's credit card, and for some reason each time I placed an online order, it would get cancelled automatically without contacting me, so finally someone from 513-398-5221 (whom I verified legit) called to handle my case, and finally got resolved.

Be safe not sorry!  Always call the number on the back of the credit card.  What might be legitimate for one person is not necessarily the same for others.  Scammers will most always spoof the Caller ID which means the number that shows up is not the one that called you.  Be wary about text messages as well.

If you know to whom this number belongs, why did you look it up? Do you often look up known phone numbers?

Let's see.  I know who this number belongs to.  I know, I am bored and I think I will look it up and tell everyone that it is "legit".  Of course if I were a scammer that wanted people to believe that this number really was a credit card company, and wanted them to think that they were safe in giving me all their information, I would go online to site like this and tell everyone it is "legit" as well.

They claimed my Macy’s order would not ship Without additional information. I hadn’t ordered anything from them so I did not call. But they have continued to call and leave me messages.

If it's credit card fraud and they want to verify purchases then they would leave a message...you don't call to verify something to make sure it's the person actually making the purchase and don't leave a message. I have gotten these type of calls before from capital one, kohls what have you and they all left a message... so if they didn't leave a message they are full of [***]

Besides getting a call from this number, I also received an e-mail from their Consumer Protection Service.  I called Bloomingdale's number, just to be safe.  The call directed me to their CPS (my number may have been flagged?).  After confirming my address and order number, the odd thing was that she had to confirm my order and call me back.  She called me back in less than a minute from that 513 number in Ohio.  I asked her why this happened and she said Bloomingdale's confirms as a security measure.  I'm not sure if it's because I opened a new account, or because I used PayPal... But that's that.
