I used to work for Macy's Credit & Customer Service. This division of Macy's also contains their health, disability, and life insurance benefits processing departments. There is a specific department that researches life insurance benefits following an employee's passing and attempts to contact the departed's next of kin. I completely understand that it sounded fishy coming from a "Credit" company, but they are for real and not trying to scam money out of you.

    AMEX card holder in Massachusetts
Got a call from this number this morning.  They said they are calling from Macy's and asked if I had placed an order for children's clothing to be shipped to Indiana and charged on my american express card.   I had not!  They told me I needed to call american express right away and have my card canceled.   Turns out there were numerous fraudulent charges on my amex card made in the past couple of days.   My card is now canceled and amex is sending me a new card.

I believe this phone number is for either Macy's or Bloomingdale's. The lady left a voicemail saying she's from Macy's first, then corrected it as Bloomingdale's. I placed an order via Bloomingdale's website to purchase an E-gift card. They are calling to verify the receiver's email address. They asked my credit card information (expiration date, security code) cause they cancelled my order first, and had to replace it one I verified the email address....This is my second time to place this order, the first one got cancelled as well. It has been almost one week since I first placed the order....

This was an absolutely legitimate call from Macy's HR department regarding life insurance of a relative who retired from the Hecht' Co. -- May Dept Stores, later purchased by Macy's.

I had the same call-from Macy's- it was simply a sales associate telling me that my package had been delivered to the wrong location.  She gave me the number of the person who has my package.  So far no problems.

I just got a call from this number because I ordered from Macys.com, they asked me to call back 866-282-8977 and gave me a reference number. It didn't match my order number, so I was suspicious at first, but in my order confirmation email this reference number is buried at the bottom. I called and they just wanted me to verify the shipping address because it was different from the billing address. I believe they are a securities company working for Bloomingdale's and Macy's. Seemed okay to me, and they didn't ask for any other information from me.

    I LIST JERKO CALLS
Caller I.D. has only the phone number. Called my business on a Saturday and hung up.  I moved the business recently and got t number used by a deadbeat woman.  I get calls day and night from Banks, credit cards, stores, and from various collection agencies trying to find the woman.  That is what I think this call is.

I received a call from this number and found out it was Macy's.  Too bad I did not know whose number it was until my bank account was charged with 4 unauthorized transactions and one of them was Macy's.  They were trying to call me to find out if the charge was authorized.  Go figure.  The other three  companies were Archos, Meijer $700+ and Stauer Jewelry.  All of these companies were very compliant and my account was credited for everything except one charge for Stauer.  They actually sent the merchandise and although I WILL be credited, I have to wait a few business days.

The people who made the unauthorized transactions on my Visa (which was caceled by my bank because THEY knew it was fraud) put Macy's in a very bad light.

It is appalling that these fraud charges put Macy's in such a bad light.  My account was charged for $1400+ by 4 different companies and when Macy's called to alert me I did not answer.

I ordered a gift card at Macys.com  On the online purchase,I had to provide a contact number and I thought that was not unusual.  I left the house for a few hours.  When I returned, I had a message from a "Frank" from Macy's who said that they needed to verify a "reservation"(FIRST SIGN OF A SCAM) I had made and it was urgent that I call back right away.  He even left a "reservation" number I needed to mention when I called back.   I did not notice until later that the number he left as a call back number (the actual Macy's number) was not the 513 number that registered on my caller ID.

I checked my computer and had an email saying that "Due to some discrepancies in the information provided on your order, we regret to inform you that we were unable to finalize your order...."   Out of curiosity, I called the 513 number and got the Macy's automated line and spoke to an "Antoinette."  She stated that my gift card order did not go through and they were calling because ordering gift cards is a "high risk" business and they always call the person ordering them within an hour to confirm the order, or they cancel the order if they can't reach the customer.  She kept apologizing over and over.   I told her that their website only mentions that it may take as long as 24 hours to deliver the email gift card, but it said nothing else.  She asked the email address of the recipient, and I told her; she asked the amount, and I told her.  THEN she said she needed to get the SECURITY CODE on the back of my credit card and that is when I said "NO, I already punched it in online, so you should have it. " Her quick response was that they do not keep those on file and so she needed me to recite it to her!  Yeah, sure!  I told her, "NO, cancel the order!"  It is sad that this is happening.  I will never shop macys.com again.

    Hi
I just got a phone call asking if I was...who is my neighbor. What the heck? Does this mean my neighbor is using my  phone number and maybe other stuff?

Not necessarily. Debt collectors use "skip tracing" to locate/harass debtors and his asking if you were X (while knowing full well you aren't) may be the lead-in to getting you to contact the neighbor to embarass him. Or your neighbor X might be using you and number as a reference for loans or something or other. Anything is possible.

Had a message on my phone from Ohio.  Figured it was a scam but I googled the number and found this site.  I called them at 866-282-8977 and indeed someone was using my credit card to order a gift card. Cancelled the card.   I think I saved myself a big hassle by finding this site.  Thanks to all who contributed.

Suspect this to be a person or organization trying to get you to submit information to steal from you.  I did not answer the call, but sent it straight to voice mail where they did not leave a message.  They caled back and got the same, "voice mail" thank you.
Next is to report the call because I am on the "do not call" list. It is listed as one of my "Favorites".  ????????????I wonder when and if the .gov people ever get off their [***] and do something about this?  They should make the law breakers pay with prison time, only.

I got a voice mail from that phone number and I was highly skeptical as I had placed an order with Macy's but had already received it. I read some of the replies on this site and then checked my bank account because several people here mentioned that it was because of fraudulent charges. In checking my account I found that multiple purchases had been made on my account including one for Macy's which I did not place. Macy's cancelled out the order and advised me to cancel my card (which I had already done at that point).

I did suspect this was a phishing scam at first like a lot of other people here but because Macy's called me they alerted me to the fact that some scumbag was trying to steal thousands of dollars from me.

IF YOU GET A CALL FROM NUMBER CHECK YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!

You never know if Macy's is trying to help you avoid losing money to some crooks.

    This was a real call!

I had placed an order for a Macy's gift certificate, to be e-mailed, and this number called me and gave me a confirmation number.

They wanted to confirm that I had actually placed the order, and I did.

    So, take it seriously!

    Thanks!
