This was a recording proclaiming it was my last chance to lower my credit card interest.  To speak to someone you pressed one.  I pressed one and told them to take me off their list and they hung up on me.

A recording called saying I was eligible for lowered interest rates on my credit  card and to push 1. I don't have a credit card. This is the 5th time I've gotten this same call. I pushed one and was connected to a person. I said "I need to be removed from this call last" and she hung up instantly.

They may not NEED to tell you what they want. Your picking up the phone has already told them this is a "live" number. They create a computerized list of valid (i,e,, vulnerable) numbers for a list they use or sell to others. It doesn't cost them much to run a computer program to accumulate this data.

I'm told that repeatedly pressing random numbers on your keypad before hanging up can screw up their program, but I have no verification on that.

Called today on my cell phone.  They didn't respond when I answered.  I saved this number, along with about 40 other numbers to date, in my cell under "Credit Card Services" since most calls are to lower my interest rates.  I have assigned the most obnoxious ring tone I have.  These time-wasting idiots will only bother me once because I don't answer the obnoxious ring.  Calls I get on the land line I also add to my cell.

I hate getting these calls, so I stayed on the line to speak to a live person.  After setting through the entire recorded message about "lowering my interest rate", then "Jason" answered and I asked that my phone number be removed from their calling list, and he HUNG UP on me.

Companies like this need to be prosecuted from calling phone #s on the Do Not Call Registry.
    Caller ID said "NY, USA"

Received a call.  Answered to "Bryan".  After I told him I wanted Customer Service, he hung up on me.
He only wanted to talk if you were interested in lowering credit card rates.  Likely working from home.

Received a call from this number at 9:20 this morning. Did not answer due to being on another line. No message left. I called the number back and got a recording that said the number is not in service.

Nothing that you do will stop them from calling you. The calls will continue since the major money is being made with what is called a CNAM revenue-sharing program through companies like http://www.telephonemanagement.net and http://www.CallerID4U.com.
If you want to stop these calls then you need to dry up their revenue source.  These scum are making money by sending bogus Caller ID information to your phone company. Telephone numbers are Calling Name (CNAM) provisioned and stored in a special database accessible to other telecom utilities.  This means that for any outbound call that transmits a special  code corresponding to one of their phone numbers, these criminals collect a fee for transmitting the caller ID information to the Local Exchange Carrier receiving the call.  When you see a  phone number in your caller ID (along with some name like Card Services), your phone company has to reimburse the caller for downloading that info from the database where it’s stored.
They are making money even if you don't answer the phone. If someone does make the mistake of answering the phone and falling for their con then it is just icing on the cake for them.

What To Do When You Get an Illegal Robocall; http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/robocalls
    1.    Hang Up. Do not press 1 or any other numbers to get off the list.
    2.    Consider blocking the number
    3.    Report it at http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
    4.    Report it at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
    5.    People should continually file complaints with their Attorney Generals office.
Register your phone numbers online at http://www.donotcall.gov or call (888) 382-1222 (must call from # you want removed).

Here is an excellent blog site that I found that explains how these companies are getting away with this activity.     http://telemarketerspam.wordpress.com

I keep getting calls from this number and i finally pressed oneand asked the man nicely to take my number off the list and they hung up and immediately called back.  I did the same thing and I asked the man to take me off their list permanently.  He said NO!!!  I said excuse me.  He said what do you not speak english and I said I have every right to have my name taken off and he disconnected.  What a jerk. Whats even funnier is that I dont even have a credit card. I added the number to my reject list.

Anytime I get calls like this I report it to the National Do Not call and Texas Do Not Call regestries. It does help some, although these companies have hundreds of alternate phone numbers. Before I heard of these registries, i got way too many calls. Now I get maybe 1 a month, if that.  On the more persistent telemarketers, I file a complaint with my cell phone company.  That has helped as well.

Looking at some of the comments.  A lot of these companies quit buying phone number lists, mainly due to the number of complaints and the effective use of the Do Not Call Registries. Some of these telemarketers get around that by having an automated system that rotates through the numbers, i.e.; 555-0001, 555-0002, 555-0003. Another example was; my wife was in a hospital ward that held 4 beds. She received a telemarketer call in the hospital. Then the phone across from her rang, then the next , and so forth. For over an hour every phone on that floor received a call. It is possible they are getting phone numbers from social sites as well. Best thing to do is limit how much personal info you put on these sites.
