They called here yesterday, I didn't pick up but one of my friends did and told me what happened.  They asked for my Mother, she did have student loans but died last month.  They would only identify themselves by their initials and wouldn't say what the call was about, just that it was a business matter.  After hearing she had died they asked for the day she died, the hospital she died in, where they could find an obituary and then asked if we could send them a death certificate.

To top it all off right before she got off the phone she remembered to off-handedly say "sorry for your loss"

Google told me the rest, I won't ignore their calls but I won't be pushed around either.

DCS is very deceiving when they call debtors. They don't identify themself and who they represent. Under the Fair and Debt Acts they must disclose who they are. I have received many calls from them acting if we were close friends. They are calling me about a medical bills which had been chargeoff from the hospital due to financial hardship. No collector has a right to contact adebtor once it has been written off whether it is a bank or hospital. DCS, their morons.

Under the Fair $ Debt Acts, the agency must identify who they are and the nature of the call. I would sent them a letter requesting NOt to disturbe you any longer. Debtor has rights under the Fair & Debit Acts.

I was called at 5:46 PM today (8/18/08)by DCS, Inc. asking if I knew a certain person that I have NEVER heard of, and they asked was I sure I didn't know them as they lived in the next town.  This person was quite overbearing with the fact that I must know them since they have the last name as me.  I ended up hanging up on them.

This number has called 100's of times asking for a Philip Chance. We have a brand new home and brand new number. We contacted our local sherriffs department but there is nothing they can do because it is a company out of state. These people are harrassing us DAILY. If anyone knows how to get them to stop I'd really appreciate any info.

hi there, I work for DCS inc, and I want everyone to know that we are not bad people and we are not out to get you. Other peoples cell phone numbers come with the accounts and are listed as references. Our accounts also often come with work numbers and obviously home numbers. If your number came with the account, it is most likely that the debtor listed you as somebody we could contact if we needed to get a hold of said person. If you do not want people from DCS to call you, you simply have to say "please don't call me." We note the account and stop calling you. It is our job to call the numbers on the accounts. We all have bills to pay just like every body else, the unfortunate part is that in order to pay our own bills, we have to get others to pay theirs. The truth is that I honestly believe I am helping people. Once you get your loans out of default, you get a completely fresh start. you can get new loans to go back to school, the IRS will stop taking your tax refunds, and the fact that you ever defaulted is completely erased from your credit. We are not unreasonable either. We are there to HELP people. Our lenders have every right to simply seize the money that is owed at any time, but instead, they send the account to us so that we can set up a reasonable payment plan and help you restart your life. If we are calling you about a friend or family member, try to keep in mind that we are trying to help them and if you truly love them, don't you want them to have a good life, free of debt? We are all people, all trying to survive, but survival doesn't have to be a fight.

Thank you! I'm so glad there are a few sane people that understand that when you sign a legal contract YOU ARE BOUND BY LAW TO PAY IT. It is very sad that by the time I have kids, they wont even be able to get student loans because all of these a** holes are taking money and not paying it back. Whats more, federal loans are backed by OUR TAXES. Yes, even you and I; people who PAY our bills. its infuriating!

DCS doesn't collect on medical bills. only student loans. sorry, your story's bogus. and of course you owe more than what you took out. ITS CALLED INTEREST. thats what you get for not paying your bills. and when you don't pay it, guess who does? I do. MY taxes will soon be paying for YOUR aspirin. thanks.

They just keep calling, I don't know why.  It’s my cellphone so I'm not wasting my minutes on them.

I totally understand that one should pay back their loans, but there should be a law prohibiting them from contacting family and especially co-workers, friends and neighbors.

I am also very sympathetic to the reasons some cannot pay their bills, now if someone was trying to live the high life w/a low salary (like Ed McMahon) than they brought this upon themselves; when its the regular things in life and they fall on hard times due to job loss of medical reasons they should not be harassed.  I know people (especially in this bad economy) that have graduated from college but can't find a job or find one that won't even cover their basic every day expenses.

I came here after we received an unidentified caller who refused to give any information. For everyone out there it is ILLEGAL for any collection agency to call more than one time in a thirty day period. Make sure you write down everytime they call, and I suggest you record them. It is not illegal to record harassing calls, and it can be extrememly beneficial to your case if you should decide to take them to court. They called us and did not identify themselves and when asked questions they kept wanting to speak to someone; I found it was a collection agency in the information provied at this site. Also they DO HAVE TO indentify themselves to anyone requesting who they are; after all they cannot tell the owner of the phoneline that they cannot tell them; abosulety not.

I just got my 3rd call of the morning from "Megan" at DCS.  The beauty of it is, we are 36 hours into the cleanup from Hurricane Gustav.  I spoke to this person yesterday (she actually had the nerve to call while a category 1 hurricane was ripping through our neighborhood) and told her to send proof in writing and leave me alone.  She lied and said that she had done so and that they are taking legal action against me.  Yeah right-let me stop mopping up rainwater out of my living room and send you every cent I have when I don't owe you a thing!

They do lie to whoever answers the phone.  My best friend answered while I was showering and "megan" told her that she and I were college room-mates and she had been trying to track me down.  Wanted my cell # and even got upset and made sarcastic remarks about how often I am away.  I am now recording my calls.  Not sure I should answer any more though since she is seriously trying my patience.

these jackholes keep on calling both of my cells looking for someone that I have never heard of. They called my first cell and ironically this guy they are looking for and I have the same first name... that is it! We even spell it differently! (They even told me that) My voicemail had my work cell number on it... and now they are calling that one looking for this guy. This [***] of a woman keeps on telling me that I can solve this debt like an adult or draw it out like this. I have spoke with 2 supervisors now telling then that they had the wrong person, but they won't stop!

I paid my student loans off years ago, last payment made in 2000.  This company is trying to get money out of me for one of my loans that I paid off and it's somewhat annoying.  You try to explain to them that it's paid, they keep calling.  I even have records showing it's paid off, and to them it does not matter.
