To my dismay, this is a Spoofed Caller ID, which happens, not surprisingly, to be a scam.

So, supposedly, someone from "Bank Of America" is reporting some "fraudulent activity" in your account and all they need to steal your identity... errr, I mean, "to verify that your information is safe" (yeah, sure) is your SSN, current address, DOB, bank account information, your blood type, the name of your pet and even your high school diploma.... information which obviously, no one with an upper-double digit I.Q. would release.

So, you can calmly and courteously tell them to go soak their heads (or use harsher words, depends on your style). Or if you want, use the air horn thingy as someone suggested here. Problem is: in my particular situation, that will scare the beejeezus out of my co-workers with that unorthodox technique.

Caller ID says Maritz Research.  They still call about once a week even though I have instructed them to put me on their Do Not Call list when I've spoken to a person, and have also used the 800 number (weeks ago) to put my number on their Do Not Call list.  They don't take no for an answer.

Presumably finding out how your Bank of America-related experience was.  That's not for our benefit, it's for BoA's marketing.

I've done some more of my own research on their relationship with Bank of America, noted here in many entries.  I too am on Do Not Call, filed a complaint there several weeks ago, and have had no success opting out of their calls with their internal list by calling the Maritz Research 800 number for opt-out.  

I do have a banking relationship with BoA, so today I've gone to BoA's site and done 2 things -- these pages took a lot of time to find, buried deep in the site, so here they are for everyone's convenience:

1) Registered with their opt-out program, and after opting out, stayed on the page & entered specific complaints about Maritz on the Feedback popup form (lower right corner of screen):

2) Looked up their affiliated businesses, on this page:

  Nowhere on the page (or in the BoA site keyword search) does Maritz come up.  So I filled out the popup feedback form here with a complaint.

I also re-filed a Federal Do Not Call complaint with more information, and indicated Maritz should be fined again (one contributor here says they have been heftily fined already) & at an amount that will actually stop them from making a nuisance of themselves to thousands of people every day who cannot make them go away.

One more thing (these people really got my dander up because they play outside the rule):  I contacted Maritz Research directly via their website Contact page with a complaint, informing them that their internal opt-out system is not working and this is written notification: they are instructed to remove my phone number from call lists, and to register it as opted-out.  Told them I'm keeping a record of this online note and will send it to the Federal Do Not Call Registry and other consumer oversight groups if the calls don't stop within 3 business days.

I have gotten this call a couple of times but It is identified as Maritz Research. I also suspect a hijacked number. I never answer phone numbers I don't recognize. The DNC list is a joke!

We don't have long distance service, so would have to use a pay phone to call & get off their call list. If they are legitimate, why don't they have an email address where people could just opt out? We have not made purchases, nor hired any cars, etc, so do not know why they would call us? We are in our 80's and do not answer unknown or unsolicited calls, we just hang up on them and hope that someday they will get the message that we will not take their calls.Wish us luck.

called my cell phone which i have not given out. dropped to voice mail that has the 3 SIT tones and a brief message charities, telemarketers, political, and surveys put me on do not call list and that  they are unauthorized to call this number !

Maritz says they are a Consumer Research Company, they are nothing more than a go between telemarketing slime f*cks and the consumers.  Oh, lets do a survey and circumvent the do not call list because we are "just" a survey company.  They are no different that the worthless pieces of horse manure telemarketers themselves.  Blow them up.

I did call the number to have my number removed from their intrusive behaviour.  It was amazing that within a week I was getting random calls on my cell almost everyday from blocked or faked numbers.  Blow them up.
