    Similar story as everyone else.
Dealt with Chris Bennett and Cynthia Thomas.  Both made threats to file credit claims against the company I work for.  Cynthia threatened legal action.
The practices of these companies are deceptive.  My state AG and IG have been informed and know of the situation.  It seems as though informing the NY AG office is the best bet as they would have jurisdiction over this.

We just had "Jamie" from International Credit Recovery call one of our employees stating that we owed money from an Internet Publication that we had agreed to a 30 day trial and we never called to cancel.  She stated she had a recording of our employee agreeing to it.  Our employee NEVER agreed to it.  She stated that we had to pay the prorated delinquent balance in 24 hours by credit card or we would have to pay for the entire year subscription.  She also stated that they had reported this to the credit bureau.  We asked to hear the "recorded" conversation and she said that legally she cannot let us hear that.  What a SCAM!  We are reporting them today.

I am going through the same thing, claiming an employee order a subscription. When I asked for proof of ordering, bu any means, I was told they asked for a birthday, and said that date was May 5..(incorrect) I suspect a bluff, and was wondering what they tell anyone else for a birthday date.

The President of my company received a call last week in regards to a fax sent to him looking for payment on an Invoice for CFO & Controller Alert Magazine??? He thought it was legit and brought the paperwork to me to pay. Once I saw the paperwork, I told him they had tried to collect a year ago for the same thing. I googled the collection Company, International Credit Recovery Inc and found a number of reviews on them, linking them to Progressive Business Publications.
    http://binghamton.citysearch.com/review/7709203

I then suggested that we contact consumer affairs and file a complaint. Luckily one of the reviews suggested Googling the phone number.

I guess I should file a complaint with the NJ Attoney General.

Progressive Business Publications BBB Complaint, Filed with the National Better Business Bureau, Nov 5, 2008

I have never before been contacted by this company, Progressive Business Publications, which says I owe $299 for a one year subscription to Internet Marketing Report. I have neither subscribed to, nor received, the publication. I am told I ordered the publication through a technical company I left more than four years ago. PBP claims this invoice (04858611, generated 10/15/08) is their fifth attempt to contact me, prior to turning this over to their “Collection Agency.” This is a fraudulent attempt to gain undue payment from the “Accounts Payable Department” of the long-time defunct TeleZap Wireless Technologies. I will go to the US Post Office this afternoon and file this matter as a fraudulent postal scam.

I will refuse all contact by Progressive Business Publications that reach me by mail or phone. This is an unwarranted try for undeserved payment for a publication I have not ordered or received. I want to hear no additional contact from PBP.

Also have been contacted by the creeps at International Credit Recovery...  Talked to the one known as Laurie Appleton (if thats her real name) Much of the same info already talked about...  The date of birth confirming the order, blah blah...  I asked her to faxt me the information she had... she did... and made the mistake of including the ICR fax number...  With that said I've been faxing to them all morning the many emails from the many websites that show what a bunch of jerks and scam artists they are... with Ms Appletons name mentioned in quite a few... By the way... that fax number is (607) 748-6256...

Anyone on this site interested in participating in a class action lawsuit? I have an invoice for $795 for materials I never ordered. None of their publications on their stupid site even apply to me as I handle independent contractors only. Anyhow, I initiating a class action lawsuite. I called PBP's 800 #, left a nasty message and a female called saying she wanted to resolve the issue but yet two weeks later I get an invoice for $795.

I urge everyone to file a compalte with their attorney general and the Better Business Bureau. This company has over 534 complaints filed with the BBB in the last 36 months and 232 in the last 12 months. The Missouri Attorney General sued them in November of 2005 for violations of the state's merchandising practices and the federal Junk Fax Prevention Act. It is my intent to move forward with a law suit against this company as they do not stop and my 'invoice' keeps growing. I have never ordered anything from this company, never signed a contract, or exchanged credit card information yet they claim I owe them $795 for their publications that I've never received. Join the masses, stop this company, and file with the BBB, AG, and stat a law suit.

I got a call from a very nasty b**ch named "Lori Appleton" who decided she was going to spend ten minutes trying to convince me that she was right and I was wrong.  She didn't mention my birth date, but she claimed not only had I ordered a subscription to some stupid newsletter, but that I ordered it for three other managers in my company.  Then she asked for the name of my CFO as well as the owner. She threatened my credit and pretty much tried to play her whole hand. Even telling me that she 'reviewed the telephone transcripts' and that I did agree to a yearly subscription with an opt-out option.  In a round about way, I told her to get bent.  She was very full of herself and needs to remember that Karma is a bigger b**ch than she could ever hope to be, as am I.  It is a shame that scams like this are allowed to continue.  This is telephone spam and should be treated like internet spam.

DO NOT TAKE HER CRAP.  If you get a call from these 'people' send the information to the US BBB, the PA Attorney General, your state attorney general and the US Postmaster.  MAYBE if we all keep telling enough people, perhaps these folks will be brought up on criminal charges.

SCAM SCAM SCAM.  What a lousy business practice--tricking people into accepting "free" subscriptions and then hitting them up months later to collect on the alleged "debt" owed.  Give me a break.

Summary of my experience:  Lyn Gregory called to say I had a magazine publication that went into collections b/c I didn't cancel during my free trial.  She refused to fax me anything but a bill.  And she wouldn't even fax me the bill until I told her I was going to pay.  She wouldn't even entertain the idea of sending me information on how to contest the charge... She told me that the only thing I could do at this point was to pay.  That there was no one I could talk to at the collection agency or at Progressive Business Publications (the esteemed publisher who apparently sent my name to collections in the first place) about contesting the charge.  After she told me I was being circular b/c I kept asking her to send me information on how to contest the charge, I politely asked her to send me information via mail and/or fax, thanked her for her time, and hung up the phone.

Got an invoice dated 11/7/08 from Progressive Business Publications stating my company owed $253.00 for 10 issued already sent and they were ready to turn us over to collections.  We have never ordered nor received any publications from the company.  I found a number for them (nothing on their invoice) and called and spoke to Erica who stated that the order had been placed by our receptionist and gave me her date of birth.  I told her this was not possible as she did not have the authorization to place an order nor did she place the order.  I then informed Erica that I had read the numerous complaints against them on the internet and was fully aware of their tactics. She argued with me that the company was legit.  I transfered her over to the receptionist who chewed her out and surprisingly we now owe nothing. I informed Erica that I would keep the invoice for future reference.

I would be more than happy to join in on a class action lawsuit against International Credit Recovery, Inc. and Progressive Business Publications. I am so tired of these types wasting my time resolving matters that should not be issues for me - it is absolutely ridiculous!!  I am writing them one last letter and sending copies of their Better Business Bureau report and these documented complaints.  I am just irritated!!!!
