Listen folks, get off their n-u-t's.  They are just doing there J-O-B.  Sami is right.  All of you should be thankful that at the Ohio State University we can employ students to do various types of jobs that often go overlooked by many.  Also, all you Ohio State alumni should be thankful you have jobs.  You could be like the Michigan Students and Michigan alumni and the best job they can get is being a manager at mcdonalds and subway, but there profession is slowly slipping away as the Mexican invasion has already begun.

Right on! Be polite, but they probably sucked enough money out of you already. Just say, "No, thanks," and move on.

We certainly paid to go there.....and paid for our kids to go there. They are currently harrassing us for donations and I've asked each of these little morons to put me on the do not call list. They are asking for my son at this time, and he's in the service. There are no jobs in Ohio, thanks to Ted Strickland and our [***] president. The twerp who called wanted my son's cell phone number and I told him that if he called my son, I would sue Ohio State for the long distance charges and if my son got killed trying to escape an IED because he was on the phone with them, that he would pay in more than money. I'm sick of Ohio State. We spent all of our kids college savings and even though we had saved for over thirty years, the tuition increases ate it all and we are now paying off college loans at 65 and 68. My son had a 4.0 GPA, so he did exceptionally well. I can't say the same for Ohio State. Bunch of money-grubbing weasels whose diplomas are worth zip in the failing job market. We owe them nothing.

I'm lucky I only get the calls once a month opposed to twice a day for 2 weeks after I graduated, rather entertaining to stare and screen it til the call is ended. I love you OSU but I'm done giving you anymore money!

I agree with the more sensible responders on here, be nice when they call.  I usually ask the caller what his or her major is, what year, and whether University Hall is still standing and other questions.  They really like to chat and then I try to donate at least $25 or more.  I would much prefer the caller end up with a good taste in his mouth about Alumni since he might move to my area and we will try to recruit him into our local OSU Alumni club; and that has happened over the past several years.

I am sorry to hear that you have had nothing but bad experiences from OSU callers.  I went to Ohio State Univ. many years ago to learn, not necessarily to end up with a job.  It turns out that I did end up with a nice position in industry because I had learned a great deal, but I could have easily returned to my parent's home and pursued a career in furniture making.  I hope your very brave son who is serving his country will find a good job when he is out of the service.  If OSU contributes to his job pursuit or not, he deserves the best for putting his life on the line.

None of this money will go to any sports. the athletic department is self sustaining and does not receive any money from tuition or from programs like this.

So apparently the $28,000 that I personally paid, not my parents, not from scholarships or grants (b/c apparently making $11,000 a year as a bartender, filing as an independent on taxes and having a 3.8 GPA disqualifies you for these) just isn't enough for The Ohio State University and this number has been calling me for the past two weeks trying to get more money, and I don't graduate until the end of this quarter! Wow, I am incredible annoyed, thanks OSU and the state of Ohio for your incredible support, and please no responses about how low tuition is and that it stems from donars and the state, complete hogwash.

This is not always someone calling for money.  A student called and left a message on my voicemail stating that she was doing a driver retention study of managers at trucking companies and wanted my input.  In return I would have a donation given to St. Jude in my name.  The only problem is that while she (the student) knew my full name, she obviously had no idea what she was doing.  I am in no way shape or form involved in the trucking industry.  I guess thats just the way OSU executes thier research.

They call me repeatedly.  As in, close to once a day (some weeks fewer calls, but generally, over the last 5 or 6 months, it's nearly daily, and always while I'm at work and can't respond).  No messages.  If it's your job to make calls, then leave a damn message when you call that often.  Not leaving a message says to me that you do not want me to know why you are calling, which is a sign of guilt, which means you know you're doing something underhanded.  I already donate roughly $1,000 a year as an alumna; apparently even that doesn't get the calls to stop.  I wouldn't be rude to these kids, I know what it's like to have to work to pay for school - and good for them for doing some work instead of doing it all on loans - but I shouldn't have to ask a dozen times for them to please stop calling.  It seems like they have no communication from one to the next, so when the next person I finally get to speak to calls me, I have to re-explain that I simply have no more to give and to please stop calling.  It is very frustrating.  Not to mention that Ohio State just sent letters out a couple weeks ago saying they allowed someone access to all of our personal information (including social security numbers) and that everyone who ever had an OSU email account now needs to watch for identity theft for the next year or more to cover their mistake. It certainly doesn't put me in a giving mood when I think about that.  Anyways, I think just a simple "Sorry, I just can't afford it right now," should suffice - they seem to be able to relate to that, from what I've heard - instead of getting angry at them.  Imagine if it was your kid... :)

[***], this is a telemarketer getting you to donate on behalf of osu. which only a small amount will go to them. if it is the university then ask them for a proof. give a number on campus that you can call thru the campus operator and get the department which is responsible for donations and gifts.

I just got my call and my daughter graduates next month.  Guess they are getting a jump start on new alum.   Unfortunately, "We are Penn State" is still taking my money for my son.  Sorry OSU!

I've been getting calls from this number a lot, and figured it was OSU, but wanted to make sure. I'm pretty sure the people who call are students, because they're just way more articulate and better on the phone than most telemarketers. I've given a couple of times and probably will in the future. I would second the calls not to be rude to these kids, who've always been great on the phone I think. But, that said, I do avoid picking up when I know it's them and I don't feel like giving again.

Reading these comments makes me sad for our society! If you have that big of a problem with the calls from OSU, then do something about it! If you don't get results asking the student call center staff to remove you from the list, then try something else! Call the alumni office. Call the fundraising office. Don't just complain about it and act the victim. Congratulations! You paid your own/ your kid's tuition! OSU is still a (large) nonprofit organization that relies on donations to survive. So make a donation or don't, but quit complaining about it.

Hey, Jo, before calling something BS, I suggest you do ten seconds of Googling. 614-247 is an exchange for OSU's central campus, along with 614-292 and 614-688. If you Google for "614247", you'll find a few results on each page that are links to university departments, professors, etc. with phone numbers in that exchange.

And they are OSU students. There are always job postings looking for students to make these fundraising calls.

I worked in their call center as a student at OSU - I was only there for one quarter because it sucks! It's the highest paying student job on campus but you just get berated by angry alumni and parents all day... Be nice to them, give them one dollar on your credit card (they get special perks for getting credit card donations, no matter how much it is) and if you really don't want them to call you you have to say "please take me off your list" and they'll never call again. If you yell at them all you do is make a financially stressed college student sad :(. They can't hang up until you do, so if you really want to screw with them make them sing the OSU fight song or hang on sloopy but then reward them with a credit card donation (bonus bucks for knowing all the words) but most importantly BE NICE!!!
