Actually, to be fair, I did ask to be removed from the list. Three weeks ago. And have received calls, every single day, since then from Ohio State Calling.  It is borderline harassment at this point.

I have been receiving calls from this number several times a week.  I have never answered because caller ID said it was Ohio State University and I figured if they had something I needed to hear, they'd leave a message.  I have just blocked this number from calling in via my phone service provider.  I am and OSU alumna, and have retired after 28 years of working at Ohio State, and frankly, I'm not interested in contributing.

Now, I do not want to be cynical but it is interesting that Ohio State supported President Obama in many ways to get him re elected.  And these students went out of their way to register in Ohio to put him over the top in this state.  So now that all the taxes of your major donors are going up as we are no "paying your fair share", and charitable deductions may go away so he can raise even more revenue, look for those of us "rich " graduates to just say no thank you.

I don't mind them trying to raise money, and I am an alumni, unfortunately not of Ohio State. So you're assumption is incorrect.  Last I heard, the USNA is not in Ohio.

Seriously???  I missed the call, so I thought I'd look it up.  I haven't even graduated folks!  I graduate on the 4th!  I mean, a post-graduation job might be in order before I consider donations.  Now I'll answer if I see it again so I can tell them how absurd that is!

Well, I'm not paying for these kids beer, and, b-t-w, when I was a student there I worked, paid my own tuition and did not live on campus or go out for beers. Fast forward to 39 years later and suddenly I find myself unemployed due to company cut backs and now that I'm in my early 60's, "nobody is hiring" and I'm just not ready to retire. So guess what? Those college kids can buy their own beer this time around. Oh, and I don't live in Ohio and really don't care so much for the state since I haven't lived there since 1978. Send snail mail, don't call me.

I worked for OSU calling when I was in school, and you are paid a set hourly wage, there are no commissions.  You get the same amount of pay whether you get one donation or a hundred.

I have nothing against any college trying to raise money however it is a little annoying because I do not know how they got my number - I am on the do not call list and am unlisted in the phone book and also because I never attended Ohio State. If I'm going to support anyone its going to be the college I did attend.

    Fellow caller here.

I work at the calling center right now and tell you right now that what we do is for the good of academics. All donations that go through the calling center go towards things that affect you personally- the Wexner Medical Center, Pelotonia, scholarships for students, things of this nature. I would say the majority of them go towards students in helping them exceed. The reason why we call is because about ONE THIRD of tuition- that's right- is covered from donations from alumni and friends of Ohio State. The other two thirds are split between federal financial aid and by the student themself.

When we call, we want to explain that to you as an alumnus, and we want to keep that tuition low so that other prospective students can get an affordable education. Yes, we know you have student debt, we are students too and are going through the same thing. We know what it's like to have overwhelming loads of loans. But we are trying to outreach so that students- our fellow Buckeyes- don't have to, and can therefore benefit our society as a whole and as a community.

We are used to people hanging up on us. I'll admit, it's frustrating sometimes. But it's just downright disappointing when you start yelling or cussing at us on the phone, because we're simply just doing our job. Someone has to do it, and it's important to the school. Every school does it, it doesn't make us different. We take you off the list if you say, "Please take us off the calling list." Simple as that. We just hope you're not rude about it. It's our job to ask and advocate for the importance of donating.

So the next time, please consider just making a small donation. Not only does it take you off the calling list for a year because you contributed, but you did it to a school that did so much for you, in terms of degree or experience or friends or whatever. Even if it is 20 bucks, it still goes a long way in changing someone's life and career, just like it did for you.

Thanks for reading, I hope I changed some people's mind about it.
