I had several calls telling me to call this number back. The first time I got a call I called American Express and checked whether this was a legit phone call and phone number and they confirmed it. I ignored it though thinking it was a promotional new account offer. But when I kept on receiving phone calls I called the number and gave my code. Someone has tried to open a new account in my name. Because I had someone actually open a fraudulent account in Capital One, I asked the date of the attempt and it was the same as the other one. I believe it is the consequence of Equifax breach of security. After I spoke with this department I got all worried reading this thread and decided to call American Express again to verify the number belonged to them and once again they verified it belonged to their new accounts department.
If you get phone calls from them check it as it might be someone is trying to open an account in your name. Lucky for us that American Express seems to be catching this fraudulent attempts!

SCAM!  They left me a voicemail, asking to speak to my brother's mother-in-law.  ???  I would later learn that my ENTIRE family received the same call on the same day.

Of course I didn't answer, but later confirmed this really is the number for the Fraud Department of American Express. I called the Customer Service number from the company's home page on Google, went through the annoying menu, & eventually reached a representative.  I was told that an attempt to open an account with my info had been stopped, & that the Equifax Breach was to blame.

Scam call. Says they are calling about information that was given to American Express about us. Need to call back. A call back says you've reached a non-working American Express number, and gives you a list of offers: free roadside assistance, gift cards, etc.

This is not a debt collector for American Express. I called the actual American Express and played them the voicemail that was left. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with my card the real American Express checked. Do not give this number any information because American Express says it wasn’t them and is investigating it.

I received four calls from this number yesterday two directly, my daughter and my mother also got calls from this number looking for me.  They said it was American Express fraud protection with a reference number  and then gave me an 800 call back number.  Spoke with American Express yesterday and today regarding the phone calls and they checked my accounts and there is nothing wrong with my accounts.

2018-June-July I do Not have an AMEX Card but use AMEX Merchant Financing which has worked great.  But for the 1st-Time in 3-Years we are receiving these emails and phone calls from this #623-492-4206 asking us to verify info that there may be an issue.  I've contacted my loan specialist and they Do Not recognize this #.  Everyone (I HOPE) knows NOT to give your info to someone who calls and says Yada-Yada-Yada to you.  My real issue is how or who did they get my info from...AMEX 3rd-Party?  If so...Really Poor Business Practice??

They are hacking into something to get your families information. This is not a collection phone call. I received a call stating there was an urgent matter with Amex Express but they used my mothers name, She does not have an Amex. They also called my in-laws the same day, also using my mother's name. Have no idea how they could get this all of this contact info related to our family.

I received a message on my cell phone same as other callers, regarding someone apply for a card under my name. I did a reverse phone number lookup and it shows the person who owns this line has a last name of Deleon and is in her 20's, Not American Express as the guy stated.

If that were true, you would logically have no reason to look up the number. Or do you look up all known phone numbers?

I have received this call twice and they have left a message to call the number on the back of my card.  They even called my husband.  I chatted with an American Express rep on line and this number is NOT associated with American Express at all.  If you call the number back it asks you to choose an option.  Do NOT give them any info at all.
