- Ben L| 9 repliesi recieved a call from them and after returning their message the man on the other end got very short with me, threatening legal action and telling me that my debt had to be paid in full within (30) days - no exceptions. Somehow my bad check from over two years ago had ballooned from $30 to $180. Thinking i'd just like to get this over quickly i gave him all my account info. Even though they pulled out the correct amount i found out later that i didn't even owe on that check, it had been taken care of a long time ago. i have an attorney friend who gave me an official complaint form for the Office Of Lawyers Professional Respnsibility and i will be placing a call to the Attorney Generals office also. I am trying to get arraingments now to file a lawsuit against this so-called Law Firm, hopefully we can quickly turn this into a class action deal and wipe these fools right off the planet. This is not about money anymore, this is about principal. Anyone that wants more info on this lawsuit, as there is power in numbers, leave an e-mail address and i will get back to you with details.

- matt cI just got a call from these people. I don't recall the woman's name but she was from Goggins & Livintman P.A. I haven't found the website yet. I just googled the phone number and found this website. I allegedly owe rent for an appartment i moved out of almost 7 years ago. She told me that they sent a letter on the 6th and I should be recieving it "anyday now". I don't live that far from Eagan or Mendota Heights and it's still not here. She then told me I have til monday to fax her a dispute letter before she hands this over the attorney. Is that even legal I thought I had 30 days from the time I got the letter?

- Messed with the wrong personI received a call from a man who said he was from Goggins & Lavintman Law. He was looking for a member in my household. I informed the man that the person he is trying to reach just left for work. I asked what this was in reference to. He said we have an outstanding bill that was not paid several years ago. The person he was trying to contact was in disability and our lawyers were dealing with Workman's Comp. I informed the gentleman that I will contact the member in my household and our lawyers will contact him. He started to sound annoyed and said "we've been calling you and you never called back." I asked him if he can send me something in writing so I can send it to my lawyer. He said I sent you a letter in November 2008. He asked for my lawyer again and I stated I don't have the information at the moment. He accused me of lying. I said "I am not sure why you are annoyed but I guarantee you, my lawyer will call you." I informed him I recorded the conversation and he hung up on me. Although I am not the person he was looking for, he did mess with the wrong person. The person who called me is obviously a parasite to humanity.

- Annoyed replies to Ben LBen, I hear you. Goggins & Lavintman Law have douch bags who work the phones. They are lawyer-wanabes.
- SteveJust got a call from these idiots earlier today, I came on here to verify that they are who they say they are and after reading this, we called our state Attorney General's office, who referred us to the ARDC (Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission). They in no uncertain terms told us that this company are not registered with the ARDC.
However, speaking with the AG's office again revealed that they are registered as an attorney/collection agency in Minnesota.

- Ben Li figured out a way to deal with these [***] and what they are all about. they are junk-debt buyers, which means that any debt that is deemed uncollectable by a reputable law firm is basically put in a file cabinet in the back of the office just in case they ever run across your name, they are never really expecting them to get paid. thats where goggins and levintman come in. they send some rep to these "good" firms and buy the uncollectable debt for pennies on the dollar thinking that they can somehow get you to pay and they can make a hearty profit. it works out for the "good" firm also because they were never expecting to collect this debt anyway so this way they get to put some coin in thier pocket too, after all they have real cases to work on and can't spend all their time tracking down the average citizen for a hundred bucks. because goggins and levintman buy this debt so cheap it doesn't come with all the necessary paperwork that is needed to make this a collectable debt. they get your name and last mailing address along with how much the debt is worth and thats it. do yourself a favor and send them request for validation letter in the mail. the law says they must provide you with validation of the debt. along with the letter put in there that all communication must be done through the mail and any phone calls will be treated as harrasment from this point forward, they will not call you again, if they do that opens them up to lawsuit. send the letter certified so someone on their end has to sign for it and you get a copy of the signed reciept. after they recieve this letter you will no longer hear from them, after all they do have the validation in the first place, that is why they are such dicks on the phone, they know the only way to get you to pay is to bully you into paying because they have to legal power to force you to pay. also because of the lack of information that they get when they purchase the debt, identities get confused and more often than not the debt could actually belong to the person who lived at your residence before you or someone with a similar name as you. goggins doesn't care one bit as long as they get your money, after all its just as good as the money they'd get from the actual person who has the debt. google sample debt validation letters, type one up along with a request for all calls to stop and you'll never hear from them again. after all the debt probably isn't yours in the first place. if you are someone who gets intimidated easily over the phone, thats fine, by law, no phone communication is required. you can agree with everything he says on the phone, then go home and get that letter out, he can never call you again. just don't under any circumstances give out your bank account numbers, if you feel pressured to do this, just hang up, its that simple.

Good advice, Ben.
Here is one good example of a Cease Communication Letter for an expired SOL debt. Send it VIA certified mail and request a return receipt:

RE: [insert account number or name of account or name of debt]:
Dear [insert collector's name or company name],
This letter is in response to your [letter dated xx-xx-2005] (copy enclosed) or [phone call on xx-xx-2005], concerning the collection of the above referenced [account or date].
I do not believe I owe what you say I owe therefore I dispute this debt. I am well aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and my state laws so I hope to save both of us a great deal of time by letting you know that not only do I dispute the validity of this debt, I have also checked with my State Attorney General and verified that the Statute of Limitations for enforcing this type of debt through the courts in (insert your state or the state in which the contract was signed) has expired. Therefore, should you decide to pursue this matter in court I intend to inform the court of my dispute of this debt and that the "statute of limitations" has expired.
This letter is your formal notification that I consider this matter closed and demand that you, or anyone affiliated with your company, stop contacting me regarding this or any other matter except to advise me that your debt collection efforts are being terminated or that you or the creditor are taking specific actions allowed by the FDCPA or my state laws.
Be advised that I consider any contact not in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act a serious violation of the law and will immediately report any violations to my State Attorney General, to the Federal Trade Commission and, if necessary, take whatever legal action is necessary to protect myself. Be advised that I tape record all phone calls and violations of the FDCPA can result in you or your company being personally fined up to $1,000 per incident.

- jacob| 1 replyi keep getting calls on my voicemail and my parents are getting calls from this place, i have never recd a letter from them stating i owe anything. and wish they would stop calling.
- hvoran replies to meThey called the phone number that has belonged to my husband since 1987, before he and I married, and asked for the guy who used to own our house before we bought it from him in 2004. This concerned me, because I thought the guy was giving out our phone number to creditors, so I called them to find out where they got our number. The man who answered was incredibly rude and started yelling at me, saying he didn't have any idea where they got our number, and what did it matter? I started to say it mattered because it was an invasion of our privacy, as we only knew the guy from the sales transaction, and were in no way connected to him or his credit issues, so did not want to be receiving more calls from other creditors. I did not get to say any of this, because the rude guy yelled at me and hung up! I'm tempted to get a lawyer for invasion of privacy, since we are in NO way related to this guy or the incident, and they had to have done some real digging to associate our phone number with this address if the former owner didn't give it to them.
- catOh, just got my 3rd phone call from these [***].
It is an automated call....asking for a certain person. Since I was not the one they were looking for, I still pressed "1" to find out what is going on.
Some nit-wit HAG asks me if I was indeed so-n-so. I said no, but, I was a relative (I'm messin with them bad).
The nit-wit proceeds to tell me that they need to speak to this person.
I asked for the phone number and the nit-wit tells me "you called me". Uh, no numbnutz, you called me. She gives me an 800 number (800-390-6590).
I asked for the name of the company and she tells me Goggins Lavintman.
I asked what this was in regards to and she goes the Heck off on me.
Hello....I don't think so.
Then she hangs up on me.
I did have to call back 3 times because she would hang up on me without answering my annoying questions. She was getting p.o.'d and I have to admit. I loved it.
I am going to do a search on this company after reading the comments made on this site.- Caller: 651-209-1825

- RobWe got the call from this lady last night requesting $450 from a "bounced" check we wrote at Holiday companies 8 years ago. I hope know one is buying it.
- Love replies to MELI have been receiving calls from that number for the past month. Usually I don't answer. When I tried calling back I heard ringing...then it sounded like someone picked up because I heard breathing. After that the line went to a message stating it was lawfirm and i should use the extension (that I didnt have) I could also leave a message. I told them they were full of [***] and hung up
- jessica9090so, i just got a call from that number, looked it up and came to this website..... i take it i shouldn't answer? i never talked to anybody, called it back and got an answering machine.....
- Ticked offCalled this number back today as it came up on my caller ID while I was not home. They did not leave a message so politely called it back to see what it was concerning. Some Ilene or Irene Smith asked for my number and I politely gave it to her. She was looking for my husband who was at work. She told me it was from a collection agency trying to recover for a NSF check. Not saying it is not possible that it is valid but it was from 2006 before we were even married?? And this was the first I have heard of it? She claims they have left many messages (which is complete bull dung) and sent a letter last year. I can guarantee I have not gotten this letter and when I asked to send a letter so I could take care of it she told me to give her his account information and postdate it. I will not do that under any circumstances and glad I did not after reading this thread! She refused to send another notice and got snippy and said thank you and hung up on me. I will not pay something that I do not have in writing that I owe.
This 'law firm' seems VERY shady and shaddy!! I just do not feel comfortable giving out information for something that can not be justified for 44 cents!- Caller: 651-209-1825

- jazzTBoneI received a call from 651.209.1825 regarding an alledged "bad check" written to a merchant. When I told "Heather" that I didn't write any bad check to any merchant, she became very assertive and rude, and I should call her at 1.800.390.6590 ext 131 today, or she would call back with further action.
I checked with "Todd" at my bank, and he advised me of a scam where someone was trying to obtain information - ie, pfishing - to do some real damage.
I received a similar call earlier this week, but it did not show the phone on caller ID. The caller was asking about a specific family member. So I gave the family member the toll free shown above to call and find out what the problem was. When the allegation of bad check passing came up, my daughter said she was turning the whole thing over to her attorney, and the person did not call her back - instead the name changed to me as the bad check passer.
My daughter told me, this caller asked for information about me.- Call type: Debt collector

- jackie| 1 replyi ran my credit report and it showed up that i had a bad check to a gas station from several years ago so i called the number from trac-a-check that was on my credit report and they transferred me to goggins the lady was freindly, and it appears thjat i did infact have a bad check out there that an x-boyfriend had written, so i paid for it and got everything taken care of. as far as i can tell, they were legitimate, and friendly, and now everything is taken care of.
