I got home from work today and my aunt was freaking out! She had a voicemail from these jerks threatening a warrant! She played the voicemail so I could hear it and I immediately said it sounds like a scam. Then googled the number and saw all this! My aunt is disabled and elderly and these jerks scared her!

This ph# called me & left a message.  Said she was from State Farmer for an investigation.  Didn't give a name of whom she was asking for.  Said my state had forwarded a name with a SS# attached to it and I had 24 hrs to return this call or be prosecuted.  Strangest thing and kind of rattles you.  But I have no idea what it's regarding.

I received the same exact message. She does not indenify who she is seeking, Never advise to whom I owe this money to, other then some financial institution, and they will be filing charges in my state within 72 hours. It is a scam, but they make it sound so official. I have been served in the past with a civil suit, and a processor server just shows up at your home, plus if this was legit, wouldn't there have been letters from the company that you alledgy owe money to over a period of time, before seeking this drastic measure? Until they come with papers, and knock on your door, just don't worry about it. These people pray on other people to get money out of you. Its a scam. Internet payday loans get your info and sell it to other poeple, whether you get the loan or not.

2  Anyone charged with check fraud will be investigated by representative of the police or  sheriff’s department.
3  Debt collectors have no power of arrest and have no influence on either the police or public prosecutors.
4  Debt collectors have nothing to do with check fraud.
5  There ‘s  no way a payday loan default (if any)  can magically transform itself in to a criminal charge of check fraud.
   
These are the typical threats of  kitchen-table debt scammers.
Ignore them.

They bother you again, tell them that you'll report them for extortion, because that's what these calls really amount to.

I got the same call as everyone else..n just hoping they don't harass my family members if I just ignore them... sounds like they might have a good amount of info on me :(

wow i just got a call today from this number , totally freaked me out glad this is a scam , thanks for everyones posts and info, she said the same thing to me that i had 24 hours to call then a 72 hour locator would be on me. this is crazy  

Total scam.   Implying there are warrants for criminal activity for the purpose of getting you to pay them some money for a questionable civil debt.  That's a crime in itself and you are a victim.

This is an extortion attempt.

Go o to the police and report it.  Also your local attorney general.

Stupid threats.   Debt collectors cannot file criminal charges.  Only the District Attorney does that.    Warrants are only issued by judges on the basis of probable cause and ONLY  to duly constituted law enforcement agencies.  

Easily checked by calling your local courthouse or district attorneys office and telling them about the scam attempt.

There's no court action and no debt collectors is going to arrest anyone.  Period.  We don't have debtors prisons for ordinary civil debts and haven't since the 1830s.

I'd go to the police and make a complaint for extortion.  Police should have no problem finding these people.

Just another debt scammer.  Stupid too.   No state is going to "forward" anything to a debt collector.  They got the SS from some previous document they got ahold of.  Debt collectors do not prosecute anyone.  Ignore them.

They do.  Sad but true.  Just tell them you're going to file extortion charges against them if they continue calling you and making threats.

If they have a valid debt, tell them to send you a debt validation letter.  Must be by US mail.  E Mail no good.   Of course they won't do it.  

Keep a record of then they call, the phone numbers and the time of day.  Otherwise ignore them and don't pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.

I just got a voice mail with almost exactly the same message!  Guess I will just wait for them to come and arrest me!  If I owe this bill I would think I would get a certified letter!!!    Thank you all for your postings!

Just receieved the same call.  I love these calls.....I am currently a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, a warrant for my arrest?  Seriously?  Do you not think that Internal Affairs would be all over this?  Big time scam, and not the first call I have received like this.  

Yeah. That is funny. I actually talked to my local law enforcement when I got this call they pretty much laughed at it. Officer Brown told me if they call again to give them his number then we can discuss this matter. What a joke.
