This number now has a caller I.D. of PK Ave Thrift.  They call me twice a day, every day, however, I haven't picked up the phone.

On several occasions in the last three months they have called my house asking my family to donate clothing to their charity. We have asked them to quit calling our house and that if we have clothing to donate, that we would contact them.

Also talked with a Julie Adams who said that she was representing this charity and asked that my phone number be removed from their listing.

    'c',

The reason you get 5 calls a week with no one there is a lovely invention called "predictive dialing".  It works like this - the computer knows that for every x calls, only 1 call is likely to be answered.  So if they have three people working the phones who aren't currently on a call, and only 1 in 5 is LIKELY to be answered, the computer dials 15 different people's phone numbers, all at once.  As soon as three calls get answered, there is no one available anymore to handle any additional answered calls, so you get to go pound sand.  Nice, eh?  Anyway, that is why you sell so many posts on this and other sites saying "I answered, but no one was there".  Be sure and tell your friends, and get them to ask their elected representatives why we don't have a real "Do Not Call" law.  You can't ignore a "No Trespassing" sign on someone's law without penalty, why should you be able to intrude by telephone?

Sorry for the typo -  it should read "why you SEE so many posts", not SELL so many posts.

    Gregg,

I am interested to see your post, but remain totally unconvinced.  Charity Navigator ORG does not list you, and in my mind that is a bad sign.  If you are legitimate, then I suggest you get in touch with them and provide the required documentation.  It is my strong suspicion that you are not a legitimate operation.  I invite you to offer INDEPENDENTLY VERIFIABLE proof that you are legitimate, and that your overhead and fund raising expenses are at reasonable levels.  Can you meet the terms of my challenge?

You know folks, its funny, but I have never received a "cold call" telephone solicitation from a charity with a respectable track record, and that is why NSPIRE's phone numbers are now blocked in my PBX.

FOR THOSE WANTING TO DONATE TO A VERY REPUTABLE CHARITY SERVING THE SAME POPULATION THAT THIS BUNCH CLAIMS TO SERVE, I SUGGEST ATLANTA UNION MISSION.  DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT HOWEVER, LOOK THEM UP AT CHARTY NAVIGATOR . ORG and decide for yourself.  Just type "Atlanta Union Mission" in the charity search box on their web site, and you will see they have a four star rating, while searching for NSPIRE yields no result because they are not listed - at all.

Do the research, and draw your own conclusions, because you should never take the word of a total stranger posting on this site.

All very touching, but is any of it remotely true?  Why do I find myself thinking that this looks like it could have been written by someone at NSPIRE who is trying to persuade us they are on the up and up without having to actually prove it ?

Nice try Gregg, but the folks on this site aren't gullible enough to take these mystery testimonials at face value.  Why not just make the facts available so we can really see what kind of a job you are doing?

What's that I hear? It sounds like...dead silence coming from NSPIRE.

Would you like to give us a way to get in touch with you and your friend to verify some of this - or should we just rely on an anonymous Internet posting as the unassailable truth handed down from God ?

If you will give me free stuff on a regular basis I will be your BFF, and even bake you a cake.  I promise to come to your house on time, be polite, and leave you a lovely hand written note on linen paper, scented with a lovely perfume.

In fact, it is breathtakingly effective at generating self-serving Internet posts in an attempt to bolster its reputation.  So how much are they paying you guys to sit around generating this junk?

You could try sending them a return receipt registered letter telling them that they are not to contact you in the future.  I believe that would allow you to recover a monetary penalty against them in small claims court if they continue to call.  But the simplest solution may be one of the Panasonic phones that have a built-in call blocking function.  It works much better than that lame call blocking service from the phone company.

Always check charitynavigator.org before donating to anyone!

Reasons you might not wish to select these guys:

Not rewarding bad behavior regarding telephone solicitations

Concern for wasting your donation's proceeds based on their controversial reputation - do you want to line the pockets of someone who may simply be exploiting your good intentions?

Possible ineligibility for tax deduction due to doubtful status as a charity

Availability of excellent legitimate alternatives like Atlanta Union Mission, North Fulton Community Charities, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and charitable outreach activities by numerous churches and synagogues.

Sarah in Memphis replies to LegitimateAlternatives
I didn't find them listed in Charity Navigator, though the Better Business Bureau (charity section) has two different names for this phone number:  Cure Clothing Pick-Up and Clothing Pick-Up Service, Inc. - two different addresses.  This so-called charity refuses to fill out the info for the BBB.

But what is curious to me, is why are they calling folks in Memphis, if this is an Atlanta, Georgia charity?

There are legitimate charities who will pick-up or take your used items.
It is a good idea to look up the charities, as some of them definitely use most of the money for themselves, rather than for the needy.

The organization (Nspire) behind this phone number has a web site, www.nspireatlanta.com.
At that web site you will see, "To schedule a donation call" 678-298-2073.
Additional you will find their address (in Lawrenceville, GA), organization telephone and fax numbers, a contact's name (Gregg Kennard), email address.
I would suggest you CALL Mr. Kennard or better yet, pay them a little visit, if you are local to Lawrenceville, GA and find out WHY they keep calling you.
Legitimate or not, they should remove you from their call list.

Today, I received three calls from this number. When I pick up, it disconnects. I called the number back, and a recording answered "NSPIRE Atlanta Homeless Outreach."  "Clothing Pick-U" showed on my caller ID. I would not even consider donating to an organization that calls me this many times in one day, one which I know nothing about, and one which has no address or contacts on their website.  It sounds like a scam to me.

    Hi everyone,

I keep getting calls from these fake scammers everyday from the 678-298-2073 number. I do not answer the phone, cause if I do and say hello to them then they won't answer. I have called the IRS about this also and the GA Secretary of State about this and I have made a complaint and they told me that they are still looking into it and shutting these scammers down. I hope these fake people and/or fake scammers get shutdown and be shutdown for good. My advice, stay away from those kinds of people. By the way on my caller ID on my home phone had a legitimate charity called PK AV Thrift, but I think that the people which are the scammers stole the name from that legitimate charity. Let us all unite together to shut these fake people/scammers down for good.

They have called me under different numbers and names. I am sick of this s***. I have given to a registered organization a couple times a year for years. That's who I trust to take my donations. Not you!
