Received a call @ 9:47 AM today,  CST  - Dallas County, Texas.

Didn't answer the phone and no message was left.

We are on DO NOT CALL list, and have impeccable credit.  This number has called about 3 times that I know of in the last 3 weeks.

The above  poster said the number led back to 972-679-0731 which is a Dallas County area code.

    This is a scam.

    Frustrated
My sister received a call from this number looking for me. Said his name was Mike Lee. Wanted my phone number and had my address. Addresses are easy to find. Said that he would call her tomorrow to make sure she got me the info he left. He told me to call him back at 888-229-3193. I actually did try and a message said he wasn't taking calls from a blocked caller ID. Mine isn't blocked. I wanted to know what was going on and why he was calling my sister. I know it is a just one of those jerk calls so I'll just let it ride for now. I don't have a clue. Shows to be coming from Texas counties: Tarrant, Parker, Hood or Johnson.

A woman wanted to know who takes care of our shipping.  When I told her I could help her she hung up.  This is not the first time she called.  Wish someone could do something about these annoying calls!

First off, I'm a computer programmer, you're going to have to know your stuff if you want some of this.

They told me they were Microsoft and they were getting error messages from my computer. Then I said you're Microsoft are you and ask them how they linked the IP address to my phone number. Then he said well I'm not Microsoft I'm a third party provider that handles Microsoft's work since they don't contact the customer directly. I said ok and he told me to check my event viewer. I did and he said there are errors there and I said there are errors on all computers. He said how many errors do you have, I said how many error messages have you gotten and tell me the time and date of one of the error messages. He said I think you have a lot of error messages, I said I think you're a sand [***] and you're full of [***]. Much to my surprise he stayed on the line and I gave him some more. Then he got someone else on the line and I started over again. I said what are you trying to sell? He said nothing I just need access to your computer, I laughed at him. And gave him some more. He hung up.

Received a call and a message was left on my voice mail.  The man said his name was Mike Davis and was an attorney representing a client that was trying to get a hold of couple that I know is a neighbor to doors down from me.  He said that I need to tell him that he would be sending the Sherriff department to the house, but had wanted to clear this up without going that far.  I told him I did not know those people and he said that, he has you listed as a family member.  I told him I that I was not.  He asked me again to contact him and let himm know that the they would be to pick them up.  I called the number back to see if I could get more information, because this sounded so odd to me.  I had to leave a message.  I left a message stating I was the person you called earlier about these people and needed to know a little more information.  He ( supposedly Mike Davis) called back and said he received my message and that the people were being sued for identity theft.  I knew something was terrible wrong with this and hung up.  I still have the message saved on my phone.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:

    ■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
    ■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

    Good Afternoon Everyone,

I would like to immediately state that this number has nothing to do with Gross Williams and Associates. We do not utilize the tactics as described in these statements and we have very happy customers that are willing to pay their debt and when the debt is satisfied with our Company they receive confirmation of such. It is too bad that anyone can post and publish someones legal name and have no consequences for defomation of character not only to us as individuals but to the Company we work for. People have debt, hey I have debt myself and yes I am skeptical about who calls but not everyone is running a scam. Yes the scamming companies give us a bad name but I have stood up for many of our customers who receive threatening calls and have provided them with the information to file a complaint.  I have gone beyond my duties here at Gross Williams and Associates to ensure our customers are satisfied not only with the debt we have in our office but helping them in settling other debts they have by giving them the tactics needed to help them settle on their debt.

Usually I would not respond to these post because even NCO, one of the largest Collection Agencies in the United States gets a bad rep on these posting but I could not take that my name is publicly displayed without any actual facts and that is where I draw the line. We are located in Schenectady, the area code here is 518 not 682.

My Name is Yara Tirado and I am the General Manager of Gross Williams and Associates. If you want to contact me at my direct number 518-631-6315 and I will be more then happy to discuss any calls made from this number with you. Now how many scammer would actually give you a direct line to contact them??? None.

Thank you and please when posting think if this was your Company and you knew that it was not what people have portrayed it to be how you would feel. Maybe no one cares but I guess I care not only about our Company's reputation but about the 1,000's of people we help everyday get back to financial freedom.

Thank you I welcome your calls.

This phone number comes through on the recepient's Caller ID when the caller uses Google Voice.  Anyone with an internet connection could be using this number which is why there are so many reports.  Given the number of listed scams, I am blocking the number and suggest the rest of y'all do the same.

Man sounding of Indian descent initially asked if I was the owner of the phone number.  Instead of answering, I asked who he was.  He advised me that my name (although he didn't say my name) and number were chosen from 'the government' to receive a $5100 government grant.  I said I didn't need a government grant and advised him not to call again.  I wish I would have asked him what governement.

It's Sunday morning and they've now called me 7 times every few minutes for the past half hour.  I've blocked them but unfortunately my phone rings half a ring before they're filtered off.  Getting annoying!

The phone rang about 12:30 pm, did not pick up the phone, the number showed up on the caller id. These posts have been very helpful and from reading them I am amazed how they change tactics and try to use psychology to create doubt in our judgment. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, preferably life sentence!

We are a business and they represent themselves as one of the Texas universities with which we've worked before. They represent themselves as being with UT Arlington, UT Austin and Texas A&M - a different school each time they call. When I've requested more info about who they are and the purpose of their call, they get irritated and even combative. Would love to see these people shut down.

I called the number back and received a message that this call originated as a VOIP call and that my call could not be routed back to the originating caller. Apparently this is just a place holder number for a VOIP company and it could be just about anyone actually placing the call.

I keep getting calls at the insurance agency I work at from this man with an accent that I cannot understand wanting me to send him my contact information. At the end of each conversation, he says I love you... kinda weird! At first I though he was one of our clients, but I don't think so. CREEPY!!
