Got a call from someone using a fake name and saying they were "asked to call". I couldn't understand what they said on the message. Sounded like calling about safety training or something. No one here would have asked them to call. After reading all of this, sounds like a scam. Caller ID said "Fort Worth TX".

Indian accented man said he was an engineer with Microsoft and was calling to help me get viruses off of my computer. When I said, "I don't know who you are or why you are calling," he got upset and said, "Don't you worry about that, just do as I tell you." NOT!!

i have no idea at first a woman asking for a  employee it sounded like a bill collector. when i refused to transfer the call i was met with a dial tone

the next day call from the same number produced a gentleman named Skip called asked for our facilities manager (who happens to be the supervisor of the employee they asked for the previous day) when i asked what company he was with he replied with im the electrician/ plumer guy... i informed him i knew who our electrician/ plumer was and it was not the same person. he responded with i sent quotes to ____ (managers name) and i need to talk to him. i refused to transfer the call and he started asking for my information and eventually hung up.

this phone number continues too call and ask to speak to the employee and then the manager of the employee.. i have gotten tired of asking them to quit calling so i have requested this number added to our block call list. seems like the only solution that will work for now lol until they change the number :(

A man calling himself James Rhodes called from this number looking for a distant relative of mine.  He wouldn't say what company he was calling from, just that he is trying to collect a debt.  I didn't give him any information.  He was very rude and hung up on me when I told him I couldn't help him.

Just got called from 682-267-0924. Claimed to be from some "Windows IT Support" company saying that my windows computer was infected with viruses and that Microsoft gave them my name and number because of this. I don't have any Windows computers, they all run Linux. He claimed that my computer was connected to the Internet and that it was REPORTING that it had viruses. Probably trying to trick people into giving them their credit card info to remove the viruses.

When you call back this number, you get a message that this number is just a service pass-thru for VOIP (voice over computer) phone calls.  Perpetrators are hiding behind this.

I called back and this is an internet based call. The person using this number is using some other persons number. There is a program for your computer where you can pick a phone number and make the call and the number on your caller id comes shows the fake number the person typed into the program. A friend of mine did it to me several times at night waking me up. He kept using other work numbers to show up on my cell phone. He was just to drunk to disguise his voice. So the 682 number is fake. Call it back and see what it says.

Received a call from this number and no one said anything. I call blocked them but don't know how I'm getting calls to my number. I am on the Do Not Call Gov. list. It started last week with a number from the area code 253 246 8555 and they call numerous times a day now. I've also blocked them. No one says anything when I initially answer so I just block them.

[DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING POST IS MERELY SPECULATION ON MY PART, BASED UPON MY KNOWLEDGE OF IT SECURITY]
I won't ask you who you work for, but it could very well be a "spearphishing" attack aimed at your employer, and simply using you as a possible attack vector(one of many generally). It's simple to obtain in-office contact details for a number of employees, then contact them directly to inform them they'll be receiving an important e-mail shortly. Most people will unconsciously trust them more because of the phone call & because all their info on you is correct. Thus you are primed for targeting and your defenses are lowered concerning the e-mail itself. Then, when they send the e-mail, they just disguise an exploit with a malware payload to look like an attachment named "tracking number" or something similar, and when you open it it probably would show some faked up shipment info, while silently infecting your work computer in the background(also watch out for links within the e-mail claiming to take you to a tracking lookup page on a shipper's site, but actually takes you to an incorrect domain name for that shipper). Even if you have limited access within the computer & with your employer it doesn't matter, they work their way deeper in quietly through a number of "escalation of privileges" hacks. If done correctly these attacks can be quite effective, which along with its simplicity, practically makes it a social engineering standard.
