I got the same call several times, im in MI. the recording said commonsensemichigan.org so i looked it up - the website is registered to someone/some company in another country - NICE!
I also reported it to the "National do not call directory" as I should not be receiving these kinds of calls anyway.

Rcv'd call from 703-961-1077, popped up in the caller id.  I didn't answer the call.  When doing a redial, went to message that phone # was disconnected.  When doing a Google search the number came up as follows:

    L. Hinton
    13296 Leafcrest Ln
    Fairfax, VA  22033

Have gotten this call three times in two days. I don't answer and they don't leave a message so I decided to look it up online! I live in MI and our primary is next week so that explains it.
    Very annoying.

Got the call (same number, VIRGINIA in the ID) just after noon, today, Saturday. Starts with the question about Bush. I answered honestly (as a Democrat) to see where it would take me. Obviously it's a Huckabee pushpoll. It also asked if I supported senator Levin, so it's tailored to Michigan.

Question is, is it illegal for Huckabee to do this? Is this hitting the mainstream news yet?

I should add, it's an obvious pushpoll because the questions lead to criticism of Romney and McCain, and positive crap about Huckabee. It's a pretty dishonest manner of campaigning. If one were paranoid, one could think it was a dirty trick played against Huckabee, since it's hard to believe he (or any candidate) would believe it would have a positive effect.

Rec'd this call today, caller I.D. said Virginia.  I looked it up on google and it also says it belongs to L. Hinton.  I didnt answer and dont intend on calling it back.  After reading the other postings it makes sense that it was a political call because I live in Michigan and the Michigan primary is on Tuesday. These calls are really getting annoying!  I've had several "weird" caller I.D.'s & am finding out that they are all these political polls and surveys.

I also live in Michigan and got a call from this number the other day and again today.Think, people. Do you really think a President of the United States is going to call people at home to find out what they think of him? That's ridiculous. It is not President Bush and certainly no friend of his!

I had been thinking this was a call from some Republican candidate. But now that I've read here that Democrats have gotten these calls, too, I don't think that's necessarily true. It could be that someone is trying to make the Republican candidates look bad. Who knows?

Now I really want to know who's behind this.

Unfortunately, the only way to put an end to these random political prerecorded calls is for Congress to expand the Telephone Consumer Protection Act to prohibit them. (And forget about the Do Not Call registry...the politicians more than likely exempted themselves from that, too.)

As you can tell from the reports listed here, most of these calls are randomly-dialed and contain prerecorded political messages from both Democratic and Republican candidates. Many times, crooks who sell bogus auto warranties and other financial scams also use this same Grand Rapids, MI-based autodialer service.

In the case of the auto warranty scammers and other commercial telemarketers, unauthorized prerecorded calls are totally illegal; the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) prohibits prerecorded telemarketing calls to residential phone numbers unless the resident authorizes receiving such calls. (Of course, these prerecorded calls are placed by an autodialer, also called a predictive dialer.)  But knowing all too well how lawmakers operate, I'm willing to bet that Congress exempted political campaigns from the TCPA on the grounds that the political calls aren't commercial. (It's really a matter of semantics; in my opinion, any telemarketing call urging me to make a decision -- financial or political -- is a commercial call, especially if it's a random call.) Regardless, I would still report these calls (whether they are commercial calls or political calls) to the Federal Communications Commission. Here's the link:  https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do

I've received dozens of calls -- some political and some commercial -- through this same Grand Rapids, MI-based autodialing service. To me, it doesn't matter if it's a political or commercial call: they're equally inconvenient and harassing. (By the way, another hole in the TCPA is that unauthorized prerecorded telemarketing calls to a business are NOT illegal.  That needs to change, too.)

That's why I've written my congressman and senators urging them to expand the Telephone Consumer Protection Act to prohibit ALL calls placed by a predictive (auto) dialer and ALL prerecorded calls, unless the party being called gave prior authorization to receive such calls.

Since congresscritters tend to be more responsive in an election year, this is a very good time to contact them about this matter. You can get their contact information here:

It seems interesting that calls that cannot be returned are used for political promotions. How accessible will these people be if elected. These telephone calls are irritating. Perhaps, we could convince the politicians that we will not vote for them if they call.

These are obivously dirty trick political call.  There is no telling who's campaign, if any,is doing it.  If they want to make their opponent look bad they make calls making it appear as if the call was coming from the opponents campaign.  Politics today are out of control.  I got a call from the same "Virginia."  If the calls bother you request a call block from your phone provider.
