I keep getting calls 714-495-4807 for someone who owned the phone years ago. I have told them I am not who they are trying to reach but they keep calling.

I've received six this morning, one pair were less than ten minutes apart. And, if "the local office" isn't calling, "FNCO" is which, I've discovered, is the same firm.

Recorded message, as a debt collection agency would do.  Said local office - well that would be a local office.  No phone system does that.  Fictional phone number.  They can do that.  News has talked about it, so have the papers.  They could be anybody.  Get a call like that, tape the recorded message, call random numbers and play the tape.  Thats what it sounded like.  A pause and then a click and then the message. Hummmmmm.  Don't think debt collectors that are real would do that.
File a complaint with FCC is right.  Problem is, that is about the fourth number that has called our
business with a different local office number.  Someone's having fun and hopes to fraud you out of
    some money.

They are calling me on a regular basis.  I have not answered, nor will I, because they are using a misleading caller ID

I received a message daily from an 800 number.  When I finally actually listened to it, it gave me a code and a website.  I went.  There was a form to remove my number.  It did not ask for any personal info.  I filled it out and the calls have stopped.  That seems like a decent system.  Maybe it should be a requirement for collection agencies.

Mine said local office too but the area code is from the other side of the nation!?  How is that local?  lol  And they are a debt collector, it's a machine that calls and then wants someone to call them back at an 800 number. It's from the First National Collection Agency.

The problem is:  as soon as you convince one company that you are not the person that they are looking for, they sell the account to another company.  Since I live in a town with a bunch of dead beats (New Haven, CT.)  I constantly get calls for people with my last name and first initial.  I bought a digitone phone machine and now am blocking the calls.  May have to change my name, move, or get rid of my land line to end this nonsense.

I keep getting a call from this number. It doesn't give a name, just the number. They started calling about 3 days ago. My area code is 302, so...

I have been receiving calls from this number also. On my caller ID it says local office. When I pick up no one answers. When I call it back, the call hangs up. I too don't have a debt problem so I have no clue to who or why they call me.
    The area code is 714.

Had this phone line for about 6 months and continue to receive more random calls from various dead beat PESTS like these..     In this sick economy, which is about To Be Imploded,  at least Termites like these will surely soon be out of "business".

This is a business.  They call.  Either we pick up the phone, or voice mail.  Since theirs is automated

then they figure someone is there and keep calling.  Why can't the government or someone do something about it!  This is infuriating !!  You can complain to the right government agencies and they
don't do anything....Saw an article about this type of thing and it said, agencies aren't pressing it as
there are too many!!!  So what do you do?  Got any GOOD suggestions

I got a call from the # a moment ago while sleeping. Because I have no outstanding debt(s) and/or nothing to hide, and am in the market for employment, I phoned the # back. A woman answered my call and greeted by saying "First National Collection". I knew I hadn't applied there and hung up. Upon doing a reverse search on Yellowpages.com, the 714 # didn't register to any local business. In turn, I went to Sprint's website and BLOCKED the # altogether. Sprint has updated their website allowing users to block any unwanted text AND vocal messages. I'd recommend you check it out. This service is not available for Nextel subscribers.

I partly agree with you. Many of the debts are bought and sold on a daily basis. The point I disagree with you on is that you say don't ever deal with anyone but the ORIGINAL CREDITOR. I have worked as a debt collector for 7 yrs now and certain companies WILL NOT SPEAK TO YOU once they've turned the debt over for collection. We will make payment arrangements and when the debt is paid off will provide you with a "Paid In Full" letter which you can use to prove the debt's been paid off. The problem you'll usually run into is distinguishing between the legitimate and the "fly by night" collectors. You could always go the the Better Business Bureau site (www.bbb.org) & check a company out. You'll be amazed how much information you can get on a company BEFORE you even talk to them. When you see a number, google it and research it. The best site, and usually the first one that comes up, is 800notes.com. Good luck...hope this helps.

I guess it's safe to assume you weren't around a 100 yrs ago so you probably don't have anything to worry about. Seriously, though, my best suggestion would be to just ignore them. That's usually the best solution to this particular problem.

I started getting calls from this number on June 10, 2011. They NEVER LEAVE A MESSAGE and call at least twice a day! Good thing they haven't been calling every day.

Another thing I noticed is that I started getting calls from a "local" # on June 21, 2011, which actually is a local # but I guess it routes to their Nevada Office...pretty damn sneaky!!! I made the mistake of answering it the first time but not since then. I've called both of these #s (after blocking the number I'm calling from, usually #67) and when they answered First National Collection Bureau, I hung up!

I found a # 888-556-7682 (to Block Callers) in one of the earlier posts. If you call this # you leave a message with the # which is calling you and your # which you want blocked. I tried it...guess I'll see if it works. From everything I've read, they very well may be buying very old debts so I've not answered any of their calls. Luckily I have unlimited calling on my Cell #!!!

I found out these calls are from a collections agency and thus third party do not call requests is not possible.  The only way to resolve it, is to speak to them or call back.  Then find out who they're calling for and whether it is to let them know that the person they are trying to reach is not at the number they called, or that they already paid their bill, or whatever....
