If you don't recognize the number, just don't answer the phone.  It's no big deal.  If it's important enough the caller will leave a message, if NOT, they won't.  You got caller ID, you recognize your friends and family numbers.  If it's your bank or someone important, they'll leave a message.  See if the number coincides with the message, ie, local bank calling you, their number will be local.  Ignore ALL unrecognized calls.  DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR, but do post to this site, those unrecognized numbers.  We'll all keep each other informed.

Called late last night. Caller ID: 7145515501AA.
Although this is a spoofed number, I did some research and found the company calling is:

They just called here and asked for the male head of household. They said they had to talk directly to him. I told them, I am his wife, but they wouldnt talk to me about their "research". I hung up on them. Then I went to the above mentioned website and clicked on the do not call list. hopefully it will work.

These calls come every few days and it is usually anywhere from 2-4 times a day.  Really annoying.  The only time I answered by mistake, no one on the other end responded, but there was background noise like you would hear in an office.

Got a call from this number just after lunch.
The caller asked to speak to the IT Manager.
Since I currently have my resume online, as well as responding to various job postings, I suspect that this call is from a recruiting firm trying to get an inside track with my company's hiring process to fill my position once I leave.
These people are complete scum.  But the joke is on them -- I'm leaving because the sorry-[***] company I currently work for is outsourcing / offshoring my job to India and The Philippines.

So I call the number and they give the email address to be removed but they don't tell you to put your phone number in the email.  Interesting...

called and asked if we accepted Amex.  Would not identify themselves even when I pushed her

I just received a call from this number.  Didn't answer it as I didn't know who it was.  I believe this is a california area code.

Interesting.. I just got a call to.. And, I signed up for netflix last wee.

I would not trust this... don't give any personal info.

Keep receiving calls from the this number and whenever I answer it I get a beep beep and a disconnect.

This # called several times before and today called 3 times in a row.  I picked up out of curiosity and they said they were conducting a survey for FPL (Florida Power & Light) which is a Florida power company.  I said I didn't want to participate and did not have time to reschedule another time and good night.  They politely said thank you and hung up.  

The 3 in a row was annoying.
