Received a phone call at work today from Gary King, from the LAW Firm of Rubin & Yates, for my wife. Told him she wasn't there. He than stated my first name and said was trying to call her a few times this week, because a lien was being put against property. Gary became shocked when I told him I had investigated that Rubin & Yates is not a Law firm and never was, and why he misrepresented that fact. I told him to have a nice day and hung-up. He didn't say a word.

Called back 10 minutes later, now showing "Private Number". He again asked to speak with my wife. He said he knew that he spoke wih me before but would only speak with my wife. I told him that wasn't going to happen.

I explained to him that I was aware of the practices of the so-called Con-Men LAW FIRM, who harassed, intimidated, and and make mostly everything up to extort money from victims. I basically told him he was a bottom-feeder, scumbag, and [***]. He told me not to talk with him that way. I explained I can talk to you whatever way I want, what you say is regulated by the FDCPA.

Don't fall prey to these con-men. They will lie, lie, and lie more to take your money. They purchase debts that over the SOL by many years.
There is no law which requires you to talk to these morons. Don't be intimidated by them!!

Why would you pay a debt that you possibly weren't responsible for? Did you read your Divorce Decree?

I hope you realize that you paid these bottom-dwellers 99 times what they paid for the debt. Sure they would work with you, since everything over 1 or 2 cents is profit.

I hope you "feel better" that you did this. I know they are laughing at you right now for being conned.

    You got taken.

You are a liar and shill for the company.
Paying a debt does NOT 'remove it from your record' It drops off after 7 years automatically and you know this. Stop misleading people.

You absolutely got taken! Don't you know tht you can't be arrested for bad debts. This is not the middle ages. Also, what they did is illegal under the FDCPA.

Just answer this; Would the police call you and tell you to wait there while they come to arrest you? A collection agency calls you, threatens you that you are going to be arrested, and you panic, and pay them!!

    What's wrong with that picture?

What frustrates me with most people is take some time and read what the law is, and you will find out that the law is in the consumer's favor.

Don't you know that Debt Collectors don't have the ability to remove items from your Credit Report?

You just made an entry to you credit report that will remain there another 7 years by starting the clock over. The entry will probably read,
"Settled for less than original amount". I sure that will improve your Credit Score.

In the future understand how long an item can remain on your credit report and also what the Statute of Limitations is in your State.

I received a phone call at my parents home.  The caller left a message and introduced himself as Reuben Yates.  He left a bogus phone number(866-237-6491, Ext. 105), which I called and the number was not a working number, so something is not right about these people and their motives.  I am upset because these people knew the last four digits of my social security number, how bizarre is that.  I don't care any way, you can't squeeze juice from a lemon if it is dry, so to the bill collectors, nyou all will be alright, we are in a recession, and I have more important things to do with my money than worry about a balance that will be swiped after 7 years, probably has been that already huh, yall are crazy.  Think people.  I tried to call the very same number this guy left for his contact number and the number is not a working number, you must be kidding me or themselkves.  This whole thing is a crock of [***] if you ask me.....

I did try and contact them and the number is not a working number.  Don't stress yourself, these people are as fraud as they come.....What was the number they called you from, or what was the number they left for you to call them back?  They left 866-237-6491 for me.  What has happened is these people have gotten their hands on some sensitive information, that they shoulkd not have in thei possesion.  They are pretending to be a collection agency or lawfirm and are threatening people to send money in htat does not go towards whatever past due balance you really do have.  These people take the money and pocket it.  They will soon be caught.

At 10:41am, I received a call from a Bryan Norfolk who claimed to be representing Maryland National Bank with a firm of Rubin & Yates. I was a little shocked because they called my WORK phone. I asked him how he got this number and he claimed it was public record available through the court. WRONG.

I let the guy spill his crap about I owed $4359.06 from a debt in 1993. He spoke quickly and said that an Affidavit was being filed against me in the Clark County Court and I would have to go to court on this debt unless I made arrangements with them today to make payment.

I then asked him his last name again. He stuttered and repeated his crap about taking me to court. I said well, I'll give you a fax number and you can fax your complaint over to me for review. He said he wasn't going to fax anything that if I didn't pay they were taking me to court. We went round and round with him claiming I needed to "cool my jets." Boy, don't tell me that!

Then I started gathering and making him repeat information which he didn't want to do. He claimed I was confrontational and I told him he was all hot to trot about who he represented and now he couldn't tell me? Meanwhile, I'm looking up his telephone number and came across this site. Then I let him have it. "I'm not going to cool my jets. Do you know the collection laws of Nevada? Apparently not, so let me tell you. IF this is my debt and it is now over 6 years old you cannot legally file a claim in court. Do you even  know what an Affidavit is? Do you know how to properly serve someone a complaint? It isn't done by an Affidavit and it isn't done over a phone. And, do you know that by contacting me at work you have violated Federal law?

He kept saying he was going to take me to court, yet wouldn't provide a complaint. I said, I have been to court numerous times in Clark County in the District Court, Justice Court, and going to the Supreme Court. There are rules that you are required to follow to serve someone a complaint, and this is not it! He said those rules did not matter. I said, The rules of the court DO matter, I am a paralegal. I know what I am talking about. Of course, he claimed I didn't. Whatever. So, eventually after being whipped, he hung up the phone.

Ten (10) minutes later someone else from his firm called me, Dan Hollister, and claimed to be an investigator. He said he had received my file and wanted to verify some information. I said, Yeah, you received my file about 10 minutes ago and go ahead, what information would you like to verify? How about the information that you all are in violation of Federal law? How about that you can't collect a debt (real or imagined) in the State of Nevada that is over 6 years old. He hung up too.

End of story. I am reporting these people to the FCC for their blatant violation of Federal laws. Let's see how they get theirs butts out of that court date. >:|

    Hi:
I received one of these calls. After 9/11, I was laid off and so was my husband.  We had a credit card account and called the creditor and told them our situation....and that we could only pay $25.00/mo until we got on our feet. They refused...they sent us to collections...we never fully recovered economically from that point, but we always offered to pay $25 or $50 per month...which was always refused.  I don't like carrying a debt like that...I wanted to repay it but could not afford more than what I offered.....we LOST OUR HOUSE....we were both employed in jobs much less than what we had made prior to 9/11, but still felt an obligation to repay the debt, but were turned away...and are still being turned away...
So, Shocked by Shocked...please don't call us "deadbeats"...we do have pride, we do want to pay what we owe; some of us just aren't as lucky as you to have the extra cash hanging around to give them what they want. We still shouldn't be subjected to threats and harassment...just give us a repayment plan we can afford and we'll be happy to pay what we owe...even if it takes 20 years.

Did you know that if you offer to make a payment, no matter how small, they have to accept it. It is illegal for them not to. If they decide not to accept your payment, then their company has to pay it by law.
