Someone just called me from the Childrens cancer center, (I only know this cause it was on my caller ID, she did not say it was where the call was coming from) asked if this was Linda, I said yes, and then she hung up on me. It was on my caller ID, so I called it back, telling them I would like to know what that was all about! the number was 732-907-2112 Anyone else have this happen to them? I know it was a hang up, cause it was very clear, not a disconnect.
I had placed this on my FB page and just now looked up the number so NOW I see what the call was all about. Still don't know why they would ask for my first name, then hang up though?

The Caller said "Children's Cancer Center". I told the caller that I make donations only through people I already know.

These bottom feeders seem to have obtained my unlisted home phone number.   Call came in today, caller id "Childrens C"...(that's all that shows).  No Message.  We previously got calls (that we didn't answer) from something labeled "Breast Cancer".   As a family member just had surgery to deal with a BRCA1 mutation, I'm wondering whether this is a call targeted at people they think might be more amenable to donating to a cancer charity (and where they got our number) or whether they're spinning through all phone numbers.   Yes, charities are exempt from Do-not-call, but where is law enforcement when it comes to dealing with the fakes?
Thanks to the poster who posted the link to CNN's expose.   I'll make use of that info. the next time one of these comes in.

But they *are* a charity, however sleazy, so they aren't bound by Do Not Call laws.

They're back.  Friday night, dinner time.  Same id.  Answered it, started yelling at them immediately, giving them a piece of my mind,including a mention of the bad media on their activities.   Demanded that they stop calling and go away.  Got an "ok" from a surprised employee of this telemarketer (and yes, I'm certain it was the telemarketer, not the "charity" calling directly from the reaction I got).  Maybe it will work.  If it doesn't, they can count on no end of vitriol on the next call that they're foolish enough to make to my number when I'm around to see it.

Also rec'd a call from this number...wanted me to donate $40.  I didn't of course...definitely not legit.

Everyone says it's Vonage, but my caller ID said "Children's Cancer".  Still did not pick it up. This was a new one for me, let's hope it does not happen again.

Called yesterday claiming to be from "Children's Cancer" something. This phone # has been around for awhile changing names to try and scam you to "donate" and give up personal info. I asked them to send by mail to see what they would say and OF COURSE they said they could not do that. Don't fall for the sob stories of sick children they are the sick ones.

They have called several times in the last few months.

We answered and told them not to call.

It's confusing how these phone numbers are crossed, Somebody says this number belongs to VONAGE for phone scam, Now I found in my caller id says CHILDREN CANCER, Seriously SCAMMERS love to fool everybody, for switching lines with telemarketing charities, So annoying even this charity is fake operated by Con-artists, be careful hang up the phone, back up those crooks, Someday this illegal robocalls will be a petty crime that will ended in jail, with no parole.

To my surprise, this was a live person on the line. It was "Vanessa" soliciting for donations for Children With Cancer. They asked for my wife by first name but when I said she is not here, she said she can talk to me.

Here is roughly how the call went:

Vanessa: "...my name is Vanessa and I'm a professional fundraiser for Children With Cancer. If we send you an envelope, can we count on you for something small?"
I said "Do you mean like one of those little cross folded ribbons?" but she didn't get my joke and suggested I might like to donate $40.

me: "What percent of my contribution actually goes to help cancer patients?"

Vanessa: "When you donate, only 15% goes to fight cancer, 85% goes to the administrative costs of fundraising..."
me: "Only 15%? That's not very much, is it?"

Vanessa: "Can we count on your support at the $40 level?"
me: "15% isn't very much..."

15% to the charity is hardly acceptable! This is really a scam to line pockets of the "professional fundraiser".

Vanessa certainly was very professional and well trained. Every time I was negative, she steered the conversation back to "can we count on your support?"  She really did try to get me to donate but finally gave up.

They last called on 16 January 2014, 26 November 2013 and on 21 May 2013 and we went through the same conversation about such a small amount  going to the charity and now with two refusals under my belt, I certainly don't want to have them call me again in the near future.

Wasting their time is what they most dread. If they're on with you and fail to secure a donation, they potentially miss out because they're not calling some other sucker.

I try to record these calls using Google Voice, but this particular call came in on our other phone number so I wasn't able to record the call.

Caller ID said "Childrens Cancer" so I assumed they were soliciting donations.  I did not pick up call.

I got a call from this number today that used the name Children's Cancer something.  How outrageous to try and prey on people with such a serious subject!  I don't take calls from numbers I cannot recognize, even if there's a name on the caller ID.  These people have got to be stopped and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

I got a call from this number and the ID on my phone was: "Children's Cancer". Ugh! I have 30 calls blocked (different numbers) and an additional 39 numbers of nuisance calls. This is so annoying. I wish our government would crack down on these people. I, like many, do not answer my phone if I do not know the number or person calling. So many scam artists out there. I think someone could make a lot of money if they invented a phone blocker with unlimited numbers!

got a call from this no. 732-907-2112 at 8;13 am, caller id said children's cancer, first I read your messages that everyone is saying it's from voyage, now that no. is coming up for children's cancer, also I throught there was a certain time that these telemarketers were allowed to call.

Called and asked for "Ellen" who does not live here.   After I said "Wo" she continued her spiel with me.   I hung up on her.  

Got a call from this number at 7am! I had not even had my first cup of coffee.

The caller ID came up Children's Cancer. Since this is not legit, I do not answer. Really wish this nonsense could be regulated. It's out of control.
