Why would a member of United call someone that has BCBS not United? I have never had United Healthcare/

This is a UHC number and it is regarding Health wellness program which is very helpful and free of charge .. They ask to verify birthdate to validate it is the correct person because of privacy legislation (HIPPA)

Have answered these calls often, as I do participate in this program.  It has helped me to ensure control of my ongoing health issues. Thank you for the perfect explanation!

United Healthcare was calling and leaving voice mails frequently in the mornings for my husband. It was aggravating, because he's off at work and not interested in these benefits-management calls anyway. But I'm here, needing and trying -- as a nurse who works very late at night -- to sleep.

HERE'S HOW I STOPPED THE PHONE CALLS: It took a few go-rounds, but I learned that the number to call is 800-842-4194 for member services. When the automated voice asks whether you're a "provider" (ie, a doctor's office), say "no." Ask to have your phone number placed on the company's do-not-call list.

If you are not the person with United Healthcare insurance, and you don't know the member's policy number (as I did not), then explain your relationship to the member and that you do have his or her permission to discuss this matter pertaining not to the member's medical care but to UH's calls to your shared home phone. Explain if needed that this is not a HIPPA-covered subject.

They will need the member's name and date of birth, which you probably do know, if you share a phone.

This is a legit UHC number. I'm currently working with my nurse from UHC. She called me back to answer my questions. Nothing is suspicious here.

I received a voice mail from 888-866-8295, but the only thing I was able to understand was the number and ext.#.  I am a little nervous about this as I receive calls from who knows who and I just ignore them. I will ignore this number and see what happens(if they call again and leave a message)

It's Prescription Solutions calling. Not UHC, althought UHC is contracted with them to fill any specialty pharmacy medications.

The number called me claiming to be calling on behalf of UHC.  I told them I could not speak now due to being at work.  I asked if the wellness info was available on the website and they said no.  That seemed suspicious to me.  In this day and age, and from a company that utilitzes a website as much as UHC does, this seemed pretty strange.  I asked them to mail me the info and they said fine, but that they needed my DOB and address.  I refused.  I mean, they called me, they already know who I am.  If they want an effective way to run an informational service they can do a lot better than this.  I personally throw up the BS flag on this one.

Frankly, I don't care to divulge my date of birth to a person claiming to be from Prescription Solutions.  I just received such a call from 763-274-3899 and told the guy to verify who the heck he is by giving me a supervisior.  He wouldn't and i told him where to go....I am not going to chance identify theft and believe anyone who merely states they are from a company!  I am calling United Health Care to inform them not to contact me as a solicitation!!!! So there....be smart and wise.

An unsolicitated call received by me today claiming to be from Prescription Solutions and to verify my date of birth.  The male caller said he could go no further with his information unless I stated by DOB.  I told him it sounds fraudulent to me and he should get me a supervisor. I received the calls from both numbers-stating to be an UHC RN-yet I sent over an hour calling and being transferred over and over again. No one at UHC claim to know anything about these numbers-952-367-8000 or 763-274-3899. If they are part of your company don't you think UHC would have the numbers listed somewhere?? This makes no sense. Yes, they are calling from my company, but I don't know where!!! Stop calling me-send me a letter or something so we are not chasing shadows!!!

So what I want to know is 1) why won't they leave a message, and 2) why don't they answer if you call back.  If that's how they manage their solicitations, I don' t care that they are my provider.  I will never answer that #.

I called them and told them I didn't want these phone calls.  I didn't get them for a number of months but now the  calls have  started up again.  when I called them again they said they didn't even have my number on their records!

I just got a call from 763-274-3899 - it is United Healthcare.  They did not ask me any type of personal information and their voicemail gave me an 866 number to call (866-783-7489) with an extension of the person who left the message.  They were simply calling to let me know about their discount/health assistant/coupon/nursing program that they have.  The lady with whom I spoke was extremely nice and explained that this program is to assist their customers in keeping their personal, out-of-pocket costs low by having nurses available to discuss any concerns.  They have discounts and coupons available for items that you may need as a patient, but cannot afford to purchase on your own.  The actual number of 763-274-3899 that shows on the caller-id is an out-only number.  Hasn't anyone ever called a pay phone only to find out that it doesn't accept incoming calls?  Many companies have this, as well.  It isn't a conspiracy, people!

I agree, my husband had a stroke and a great advocate calls him to check his progress from this number.

If you don't feel comfortable giving your information on the phone, then please just advise the caller to mail you the information.  I work for an insurance company, and we also have policies and procedures we have to follow.  We try to do our jobs and provide you with exceptional service within the boundaries of the Hipaa Laws.  Don't take it out on those that have no control over what can be accepted for confirmation.

It is clear from the posts here that it is from United Healthcare, and since I am a customer and our family has a variety of health issues, it does not surprise me that they were calling.  Thank you all for posting to confirm the source.
