Total scam. They are actually fake debt collectors. Don’t talk to them or give them a dime. I have checked my credit and it’s perfect. They just threaten you to pay them but it’s not even for real debts. They have been calling me on and off for 2 years from all different names and numbers. Never received a thing in the mail.. and still waiting to be “served” haha

Scammer call using using a local telephone number to trick me into answering. First time they called and left a recorded voice message (male voice) asking for Theresa Cook and they said they were X-caliber Mediation and left the 800-218-0275 number to call back. Second time was another call from the same people and left a voice message from a female recorded voice. I have no idea who this Theresa Cook is and these scum bag scammers have been calling for the last few years off and on.

This company calls 6 - 7 times a day.  I've explained to them this debt was "settled" years ago and there was no such debt on my credit report.  They say it is a different account number.  So it is a different debt and that I am attempting to defraud them.  The amount they say owed is the amount forgiven in the debt settlement.

I didn't answer the local number that showed on my id.  The voicemail said to call 800-218-0275.  However, I did call them back a few weeks ago when they called and a rather hostile female told me she was collecting a debt from years ago that had already been paid off.  The concerning part was she knew my SS# and DL#.  After I hung up on her, I believe she called my ex in laws, who told her they lost contact with me years ago.

They called and asked for me with a last name I haven't used since 2007.  Said I owed a particular creditor x amount of dollars.  I did have a debt with this creditor which I paid in full in 2012.  They said I opened the account in 2007 which is not true, but refused to give me any other information.  Said I had until 4:30 tomorrow to 'settle' the debt.  The only documentation they sent me was an agreement to make payment, uh no.  I called the creditor directly and they said I owed them nothing.  Problem solved.  Blocked all numbers on my cell.

Is Ms Peterson at extension #408?  She is calling me saying I owe for an old, settled credit card debt.  But the account number doesn't match my settlement letter so she said I submitted fraudulent information.  I stopped answering her calls, including calls from the area code matching my cell but that area code is from another state where I used to live.  And I know it's them, so I am blocking those calls also.  But she keeps leaving messages.

Called saying I owed money on a 5 year old credit card. Threatened to garnish wages and suspend my license. Had all my info. When I requested something in writing or sent to e-mail things got shadier and never received e-mail. Seems very suspicious.

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
    http://www.consumeradvocates.org/find-an-atto ... tates_value=All

Everything else you need to know follows including at least two or more federal and state agencies where you should report their criminal activities.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

To let everyone know: a toll free number calling into your phone is automatically a scam.  My bank told me about this after falling for a scam where they used my bank's toll free number to call me.  This nimber said my husband was in collections.  There is nothing on his credit report (we pay experian monthly to monitor our credit) and he recently went through a security clearance where they would have seen collections and questioned him.  I told the woman many times she was a scam artist.  NEVER BELIEVE A PHONE DEBT COLLECTOR!!! TELL THEM TO SEND IT TO YOU IN THE MAIL!!! IF THEY DO NOT KNOW YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS, IT IS A SCAM!!! DO NOT VOLUNTEER YOUR ADDRESS!!!

They want me to make payments on a 2013 credit card that I don't remember. I told them I need paper work for the length of payment and amount. I was told that they only email. I don't feel comfortable doing that.

Not true.  I have gotten legitimate calls from 800 numbers many times.  Your bank should not be the source of information on anything but banking matters and even that information might be iffy.
