800-226-0014 is a ligit number (I verified this with MCI rep), but it sounds like it does the billing when calls are misrouted on the system to the wrong carrier or just bogus numbers.  Our charges were from when the phone network was having  issues.  They are basically trying to collect on calls that they can't prove and send a bill to the last owner of the number.  It comes off as super shady and I had to talk to a few different reps before I got a confirmation that it wasn't a scam.

I'm not sure if who Todd may have talked with to determine this was a legit number with MCI but I tend to still say SCAM!  First of all, when you call that number there is NEVER a mention on ANY company name in the message you receive.  Nothing ever says MCI or any other legitimate company name.  Secondly, you are instantly routed to a machine message that says its the billing department without ever asking if there is another issue?  You would also think this number would be listed as a customer service number on the MCI website and it is not.  Another thing is the P.O. Box number on the invoice.  Fishy!  No physical address of the corporate office at all?  My story is the same as the others, except I have been charged $96.55 for a 38 minute conference call that was through a conferencing service where there should be none or a minimal charge.  This is an in state call.  Not freaking India for crying out loud!  I also do not even have a long distance service on my phone at all.  When I pick up my phone and dial an out of area number, it will NOT even go through.  So....how did this number go through if it was a long distance number?  Oh and last but not least, the first time I received a call from a guy about this would be charge that would be coming, the number was blocked on my caller ID (lucky I even answered).  Why would a legit business have an unavailable number when calling you?  Shady to say the least.  If they get one gullible person or an elderly person who hates to owe something and pays it, just think how much they can make!  And this has been happening since 2009 and nothing has been done about it?  Everyone call, email and report to every authority you can find! I definitely will be!  How difficult would it be to put surveillance on that post office box and who checks and gets their paychecks on a regular basis?

I received a $1,500 bill from this company today with the customer service number of 1-800-226-0014 rude lady when you call it and it is definitely a hoax!

I just got one on 2-27-15 for 73.73 to a number I call all the time from my land line.  No one will give me any information and they just have me going in circles and answering all kinds of survey questions.  Called Verizon- the legit company and they knew nothing about this company and neither did Charter when I called them.

. I have never had MCI, and haven't had Verizon for 20+ yrs. Charging me for a long distance call $69.58. I have free long distance anywhere in the USA with Bright House. it listed my home phone # with a call going to my aunt in ND.... Bill came from MCI, PO Box 600607, Jacksonville, FL  32260-0607;
Asking to send check to:  MCI a Verizon Company, PO Box 600674, Jacksonville, FL  32260-0674.  I called the phone #, and all it said was English press 1, Spanish press 2.  I hung up.

I don't plan on paying the bill.

Got a call first asking for the address to send the bill to. Sounded Eastern India. Got a invoice on 3/11/15 for $67.82. Same invoice text. Had our home number, and the phone number of a sister in another state.

Same as the others reported.   Got a bill for $25.50.   Says it's from MCI , a verizon company.   This is obviously a scam.   But I am thinking the data leak came from Verizon's data base because we were verizon customers for one month and then switched back to ATT and this bill was generated during my month with verizon and includes my name as it appears on my verizon account.  Our other  telephone services are in my husbands name.  Very scary that someone can get this info and send you a bill

Got a bill today for supposed collect call from a num in la Vegas. 45.00. I never took a collect call and don't know anyone in Las Vegas. I called the number that supposedly called me and in was a fax machine. I wil be reporting them to the FBI. Thanks to this site I now know I'm not the only one. Btw I do love alone and never even answer this phone.

Got a bill from a company called MCI a Verizon company for $6.75. They said I called Irvine CA. last month. Never did. They claimed it was $7 minutes. Will not pay knowing that others out there got the same scam. I don't have Verizon landline

I did not receive a call, but a letter bill from "MCI a Verizon Company" for a long distance call placed from a phone number that I do not even have. $5.34 Guess they think people will just pay it to avoid it going on their credit report. Bam...they have a few bucks and your financial information!

I had the EXACT same experience!!  Got this bill from MCI, very official looking, said "the following calls were completed using MCI's network.  The charges for these calls will not be on any other telephone company's invoice".  We don't know anyone in Grand Rapids, MI, so I called the # at the bottom to dispute it, but it went straight to voicemail during wkday office hours, so I thought that was strange for a major national phone company's cust service line.  Looked up MCI online, called their official number, they said they had no record of that acct # (which is just our phone #) or name as clients; transfered to Verizon, who said the same thing.  Now, I've come to see a few identical complaints online like here, and I know it's a scam.  Don't send any $ to this Jacksonville address!  PO Box 600674.  (Is MCI even based in Jacksonville?

 Hi everyone, just received a invoice and phone call from MCI , a Verizon Company, saying I had called a New Haven, Ct. number on 7/14/15 from my phone.  I was not home that AM and my husband was working and the house was locked up. We do not know anyone in New Haven and would only use our phone which is included in the services by TWC, in the state of New York.  When I called the number I got put on hold, and a mans voice asked for my name & number and he would get back to me.  I declined, said a few things and hung up. Today a lady called & left a message asking this person to call back.  Different accent, didn't sound like a southern one however.  Something stinks in Jacksonville.

I am the same CC that wrote on Aug 31st.  I got a 2nd very authentic letter saying that my bill was now past 30 days late and I believe they called me, as well, spoke to an actual woman insisting that she was a representative from the actual MCI.  Still, I do not believe any of this, because we have never used their services and I have also called MCI directly and they have no knowledge of owing them anything; also, the phone number is an 800 number that goes to voicemail (very strange for real MCI to have this).  Believe they are now persistently harassing us, don't know what to do about the situation, we've already wasted hours dealing with it.  Oh yeah, also, they list my phone # as the acct # (which MCI does not do) and I don't believe MCI is even based in Jacksonville.  All this, plus all the above comments, make me believe this is still a hoax; still, it is disconcerting to be repeatedly hounded by mail and phone by the same scammer.

Just got a bill in the mail from this...this...idk what to call them because they don't deserve the title of company or business...but anyway, it says I owe "them" $10 for a "third number billed" (type 1...whatever the hell that means) to Birmingham, AL.

HOWEVER...I have a cell phone  plan with free long distance, for one.

For two, when I compared the date and time this call was supposedly placed to Alabama through "MCI of Verizon" with my T-mobile cell phone, it was the SAME EXACT time and length and time I made a local call to my FREAKING COLLEGE which is in the same city as me. Such idiots!

On my fake bill it says that the charges for these (fake) calls will not be on any other telephone  company's  invoice....

Nice try. But I looked, anyway and found out MCI is a lie!

If you can, compare the call you're billed for from "MCI" to the call on your actual carriers usage statement (it shows all the calls you made over a period of time), and you shall see that the call "MCI" is billing you for may have the same date and length of time for a call you actually made EXCEPT the call you actually made is not long distance and was already paid for by you to your real phone service provider.

Just ignore this fake bill or send them $10 in monopoly money :D

I just received a weird bill from MCI a Verizon company for $16.37. Invoiced on 1/29/16. Phone number 1-800-226-0014. Office hours M-F 9-5 EST. I called them after 5 pm and got a general voice mail box advising that no one was available to answer. Nowhere did it say MCI or make mention of the nature of the business.

The bill was for a long distance call but the funny thing was the phone number was not one that I called on that day/time...I called the number on their bill which actually still was the company I actually called but their number was in Alabama and the company phone number I called was a VA number. WEIRD!!!

So, I called my phone company and, after being on the phone for 1 hour, they told me that it sounded weird and I needed to call them tomorrow. They gave me the real phone number for MCI (1-888-624-5622) and told me to give them a call.

I decided to do a little online research instead and I see that it's exactly what I thought. A SCAM!!!!!

These lowlife people have nothing better to do with their time. The scary thing is, HOW DID THEY GET MY HOME PHONE NUMBER AND ACCESS TO MY CALL LOG TO KNOW THE DAY/TIME I ACTUALLY MADE A LONG DISTANCE CALL????

It seems they are at it again. I received a fraudulent invoice addressed to my employer today for $14+ for a 'call' to Togo that they claim was made at 3 in the morning. (We aren't even open at that time) I contacted my telephone provider, we have no 3rd party access to any of our lines. I contacted the number, no answer. I reported this to the FTC, the BBB and the Florida Attorney General

The 800 number listed on the bill belongs to Transaction Network.

Part 2...I just received my 2nd bill for $16.37 stating "You will be blocked from gaining access to MCI a Verizon Company's Network" if I don't pay the bill. Again, I don't owe it.

I called these scammers again at 9:14 am this time and received a voice mail saying "Billing Inquiries voicemail". They didn't say the name of the company or anything else. The message I left was not a pleasant one.

I am about to report them to the BBB, FTC, and FL Attorney too. They need to leave me alone!!!!!!!!!!
