Received 5 calls in succession claiming to be from BB&T fraud prevention unit.  I have never done business with this bank.  Got another call tonight at 10.50 pm.  Do not give out any information.  It is a complete scam.

They claim to be BBT and asked for my 16 digit card # that was deactivated 2 weeks ago for fraud. I refused to give my card info and they hung up on me.

This is a scam so don't be fooled. No one in my family has ever banked with BB&T. They called me on a Saturday afternoon and left no message.

Yes this is a BBT number but it does not mean its actually them. Scammers are spoofing this number and without asking me personal info took me for 3 grand yesterday.
See what they want.. then hang up and call bbt directly to verify.  This was a genius scam ... they already had access to my info from a skimmer and by sending me one text while talking to me on the phone were able to access everything else and were even able to put fake alerts on my bbt app.... all the while stealing my money.

Received the call today from this number and was told it was bb&t fruad dept asking if I ( she used my name) had attempted to debit different dollar amounts in florida. I live in Texas. Wasn’t me I said. Now the thing about this scam is that it’s a great thing they have going. That number is a real bb&t number and the fraud dept will call you from this number if they find any suspicious activity. The difference being, the real bb&t will be an automated message saying such things (I’ve received such call after trying to by from google express and purchase was in California). Anyway, the lady proceeds to say that they will cancel my card and have a new one shipped out. She tells me my actual address and to verify that’s where the new card will be sent. So far so good. She says she just needs to verify me being me by sending a special code. She know my phone number and verifys with me. Code it sent to my phone and I tell her the number for “verification purposes”. This is where I’m an ****. She tells me that since they have my card number she needs to cancel my pin and also I wouldn’t be able to have that exact pin for the new card when it arrives. (My mind set is just in a fog. How did anyone get my number? Where did I last visit that could’ve had a scammer? Just yes yes cancel everything. Stop all this from happening.). Cancel my pin...how stupid. So I said it out loud to her and she tells me she’s just going to put be on a brief hold and to stay on the line. I immediately have just an ugly feeling. I hung up the phone and I went to my bb&t app and turned my card off. $200 already gone. I contact the real fraud dept and blah blah blah. I know about scammers. I’m aware of what not to do, personal information and stuff. But just being caught in the middle of it, I became a moron. So this was my long winded way of saying. This is a reall bbt number but they will never ask for your pin or be a person right away. Hang up

Said his name was Charles Gabriel and told me they were from BBT Fraudulent department and there was a suspicious charge on my debit card ending in XXX1 - ( I don't have a debit card ending in that number, but I do another card).  He said the charge was coming from Leeville KY Verizon and wanted my 4 digit pin number.  I told him I wasn't giving that over the phone, he kept insisting to list this as fraudulent, he needed the number.  I finally raised my voice and told him I wasn't giving him my pin number.  He hung up.  I contacted my BBT rep and friend.  She said some spoofing had been going on - even though this was a legit BBT number, they did not make the call and would NEVER ask for a pin number.  BEWARE!!!

I had a call from this “number”.  We don’t have any accounts with BB&T.  Looks like a scammer high jacking a legitimate number.

Caller claims to be from BBT fraud dept, but is actually an elaborate scammer using Zelle to steal money from account. Don't give her the code that she texts to your phone to "verify your identity."

Received a text from 801-987-0980 first. It said BB&T fraud and that someone charged 860$ at winn dixie. I replied no to confirm that i did not authorize the purchase. A minute later I received a phone call FROM THE BB&T NUMBER STRAIGHT FROM THE WEBSITE 1-800-226-5228. The man asks me to verify the purchase and I said I didn't make that purchase, and I mentioned that I have like 14$ in my account, and he hangs up the phone abruptly. I called the number back and I was actually connected to the BB&T line. Very confusing, thank god I didn't get screwed, be careful people!
