- Hunter MurraySpoofed number straight from Truist. First they send you a text claiming you have fraud. Then they call you WITH A LEGITIMATE NUMBER. Ask for routine stuff but then ask for full social or online banking username. Then requests a new password, which sends a legitimate email containing a temporary password. I declined and said I’d handle it at the bank. Guy was still very friendly and trying to keep the scam going. Even ended the call with “So sorry I couldn’t help you over the phone today. Thank you for banking with Truist.” DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING IF THEY CALL YOU. I managed to lock down my account before anything was stolen. If you think you have fraud, do not answer calls. Call the number on your banks website instead. This way you are connected to the bank and not being called from someone spoofing the number.

- BEWAREI received a text message from this number claiming to be the fraud dept of Trust advising that a $2000 Zelle transaction was attempted. Reply Yes if authorized and No if it was not authorized. I text No. Immediately following I receive consecutive calls from the number. When I answered they provided the above information and asked if I used my card inside or outside of a gas station. I told them that I did not recognize the number as a Truist number. They advise me to check the back of my card and Google for Truist Customer Service. Oh they're slick. I kept saying I would call the bank directly the number did not match my card or online banking. They were very pushy and asked what accounts I had with Truist and did I have accounts at other banks. I said they should know. Then they said they could shut them down. I said again I am calling the bank now and asked if there was another way I could shut it down with online banking. They disconnected at that point. When I called the bank and reviewed my account it was confirmed that it was fradulent.
Best advice if you dont have spam alert on your phone and you answer and listen to their introduction (Name,Bank,Dept) Don't Answer, Don't Engage Hang Up and Just call the Bank- Caller: TRUIST

- SAm replies to BB&T CustomerThis is a SCAM. They are not really from BBT or Truist. Hang up on them and turn around and call the number back on your card and you will see. It is a phishing technique by professional scammers.
- luv2gobeachMan called claimed to be from the fraud dept. of Truist. He proceeded to tell me someone has attempted to take over my account. He sounded funny and talking really fast. I told him why wasnt I previously notified by Truists. He said it just happened I told him how did I know he was who he said he was. He then said I need to just verify some of your account information. I then told him I will listen to you but I am not giving you any information. He then hung up. I looked up the number found out it was a scam using Truist number. I then called the fraud department of Truist and no one had compromised my account at all. Please if someone from this number calls you hang up it is a scam.

- KMM| 1 replyI got a call from this exact 800 # saying that it’s fraud alert on one of my accts. $130 used at a TMobile store out of state. He puts me on hold for a long time. Come back and confirms last four digits of my debit card. He asked if I knew someone named Randall Williams who was using my card to make purchases through Apple. I told him I did not authorize any of that. He puts me hold for another LONG time. He then says he’s canceling my card and issuing another. But first, he’ll send me a code to my cell number and I just have to read the code back to him. I receive said code. It says “Fraud alert. Do not share this code with anyone. Your verification code is blah blah blah.” I tell the man at that point I’m not reading him the code. I have no way of verifying his status with the bank. He tells me he’s John Adams calling from Atlanta and gives me a long customer rep ID #. I telll him I’ll call the bank directly to report fraud. He hangs up on me. Then, I call the fraud bank # as printed on back of card. That CSR sees no fraudulent activity on my account and DEFINITELY NOT a T-mobile charge from out of state. After reading the above comments, I’m convinced I dodged a bullet here and successfully kept my money!! BEWARE. These guys are getting good.

- BigA replies to KMMI wouldn't call them "getting good" They somehow found out your user name to that account. Then they needed to change the password which is why you got that text. If you had given them that then your password would have been changed and they would have cleaned you out. This has been going on for years and I bet you probably have received something from the bank warning you of these types of scams.
- JamesI got a call from this number, tho I didn't answer it. Never give your personal info over the phone ever.
- Cheryl SmallI got a text first about several large amounts on my debit card including a $1,000 cash advance and then a call from this number right away saying they were from the fraud department of Truist bank and did I make these charges? He knew the last 4 digits of my debit card, but that card had been cancelled 2 weeks before because of unauthorized charges and I had a temporary debit card now with a different number. Then he said he was transferring me to his "supervisor" who started saying the same things and giving me all kinds of excuses about why my cancelled card could still be used, but wanted the number of my new temporary card. I then immediately hung up. BEWARE!!

- DougI got a call from this number, which is an actual BB&T/Truist number. However, after talking to my local branch (there aren't enough hours in the day to wait on hold for their customer service number) I believe the number was spoofed. The person who called me last night had also sent a text from a local number asking me to confirm my username, password and the word "CANCEL" in a text message. It didn't strike me until this morning that this was very odd. The local branch sent me a password reset this morning. So far, nobody has tried anything else on my account and all looks fine. The local branch could not confirm the fraudulent charges that the caller last night claimed were made!

- EJKI received 2 calls from this number today. When I look it up it says Truist Bank. I did not answer & no message was left. This was the old BB&T customer service number. I can’t imagine a bank calling twice seconds apart & not leaving a message.
This past Friday, I received calls from a similar number (800-226-5226) & a text message from (808-545-3665) which said it was Truist Bank Fraud Dept & it instructed to call that 5226 number for a suspicious Zelle transaction. On an online search the 5228 number comes up as being Truist Bank. When I questioned the number they gave me to call in the text being slightly different, they said it was their extension in the fraud dept. which is not true.
Bottom line is, it wasn’t Truist. It was a scam artist who somehow managed to get my name, phone number, bank name & debit card number. Wanting information from me. While they were talking I was in my banking app, changing PIN codes & passwords. They tried to get me to process a $1000 Zelle request “to reverse the suspicious Zelle transaction”, which is stupid because if they took money out of my account, why would I send more money, right? I declined it. When I refused, they hung up on me. I also received email notices from Truist saying 2 transactions were declined after locking my card. While they had me on the phone they were actually trying to use my debit card.
I immediately reported my card lost or stolen to deactivate it & called the actual Truist fraud department, whose number I have programmed in my phone because of another attempted fraud, different from the number in the text message. They said I had taken all of the necessary steps to protect my account. I went to my bank yesterday to get a temporary debit card.
Always verify who is really calling you. Truist has changed all of the BB&T customer service numbers to their own numbers after the merge. Truist Bank actual customer service number is 888-228-6654.- Caller: Truist Bank (scam)

- JBMy venture started out with a text from my "bank" wanting to validate an attempted purchase at Best Buy. I did not make any such attempted purchase and I did not recognize the number that it came from so I googled it. Turned up nothing. I then called the bank and we went over several recent confirmed purchases and she did not see any attempted purchases from Best Buy. Of course I took the usual security measures for the time being. Just after I did my security measures, I started getting phone calls from 800-226-5228 which was the old BB&T number. I never answered the calls but they called repeatedly probably a dozen times while I was talking to the fraud department of Truist who took over BB&T. They went back over my recent confirmed purchases again and still did not see an attempt for a best buy purchase. They also assured me they no longer use 800-226-5228 as a phone number so I have to say this is a scam.
