- BcbThis is literally Capital One, though this is NOT the number that will show up if THEY are calling YOU. THAT number will likely be 800-955-7070, for everyone's future reference.

- GoldilocksGot text messages of suspicious activity 12/9/19 on my credit cards and then a call from 800-227-4825. They pretended to be from capital one saying they would help me with all the fraud charges. I trusted them (because I looked up this number and it is register to Capital One) but the number was being spoofed. Needless to say I trusted they were just keeping an eye on my accounts and needed my help. They told me my credit cards had been shut down and not to worry about all the text messages and emails I would get regarding charges. Told me to ignore them as it was the computer doing it's job in shutting down my accounts and they would have new cards in the mail to me. Long story short, it was a scam.....
They took me for about $10,000 on credit cards and another $4,000 on opening a NEW account with a different bank. Total $14,000. After 3 days I finally called Capital One (the number on the back of my credit card...fraud dept) and told them the story. Guess what!. Capital One had never made any calls to me on 12/9/19, never sent me any text messages about fraud on my account, etc. etc. Told me my cards were still active and and the person I said I talked to was a scam artist and did not work for CapitalOne. They continued to research all my problems, did stop my credit cards, gave me credit for all the fraud charges, apologized that I had been scammed, confirmed in in writing my account was being investigated, etc.etc.
People be AWARE of this SCAM that looks like CapitalOne. DO NOT accept any phone calls that even it looks like Capital One or any other credit card. ALWAYS, ALWAYS......YOU make the call to the number on the back of your credit card if you suspect problems or you'll get spoofed like I did. These scammers are true professionals and don't be taken by their polite and concerned manner. While you are on the line talking to them, they are using your cards to buy, buy, buy.
Right now I have a police investigation going on, reported to FTC fraud, put a freeze and fraud alerts on my credit bureau agencies, contacted my banks, and other credit cards with fraud notices, put fraud notices on everything I can and have notified Dept of Motor Vehicle (Drivers License) about identity theft in case some is trying to get my drivers license in my name.
My FICO score has dropped down 150 points since this started..... Now I play hell trying to get things fixed.

- pattyd| 3 repliesgot a text saying capitol one had detected fraudulent activity on my card ending in xxxx. i called 8002274825. they asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN. I reluctantly gave it. They asked for my date of birth. i reluctantly gave it. they said they were going to text me a one-time code, my carrier might charge me message rates, etc. then they warned me that some carriers might not let the text come through. sure enough, he said he could see the text didn't go through. then he said not to worry, any govt ID would work. He asked if I had a drivers license. I hung up. He called back. Caller ID display looked reasonable but I didn't answer. He didn't leave a message.

- Tygerkat replies to John123I don't understand how you think you'll get a response from someone who posted over 8 months ago.

- Darcie| 1 replyI called this number from some literature I received. I was directed to press a "1" to receive a special offer. Then I was told I was going to receive up to a $200 gift card for qualifying. All I had to do was pay shipping! This sounded like a standard scam... so I just hung up. The tricky part, is they had me calling them by some misleading advertising! It sure looks like Capital One literature... so watch out!
