- CarolThese people have cursed and me and hung up on me - they are a collection agency trying to collect on an invoice they submitted incorrectly to my insurance company. I have requested a copy of the original invoice 3 times, but they cannot provide one because they 'purge' their records. How can I get an insurance company to pay on an invoice that they can't even provide. What losers!

- Ari replies to Cupcake_loverHi,
I received the same phone call from mbroi. I called back. Instead of the one who left a message, and her extension, didn't pick up the phone, but a colleague. He wanted to know a reference number, which I don't have. Than my phone number and name. I asked polite who he is and what organization he is working for. And he just said, if you want to talk to the person you are looking for, give me your info, otherwise have a good day. Pretty rude and suspicious. - me replies to tatersaladmaybe its identifying? hello
- Smarty Pants 5000+This is either an extremely clever scam to get peoples' info, or an extremely stupid method being used by a legit medical billing collections company.
Received call on my cell phone (my primary and only phone), it was a recording, they claimed to be "Receivables Outsourcing LLC" and said it was a private call for [my correct first and last name] and gave me the number 18002341357 to call them back. I called them back and their system had me enter my phone number, so I did. No reason not to, everyone has caller ID anyway, and they already know my name and number anyway. Then a human answered my call, asked for my phone number, address, DOB. I said hold on, who are you guys? You called ME. I can't give you my address, you could be anyone and they quickly said "ok have a nice day" and hung up. Reeeal sketchy.
Feeling unsettled, I called back. I entered my number again, and again was sent to a human. They immediately acknowledged that I had already called them (minutes earlier). I said that I see you're a collections agency. If I do owe anyone money, I certainly want to take care of it. So they said ok, then we need your address and DOB before we can give you any more information at all. I said "Dont you see that from where I'm at, you could be anyone? How can you expect me to give out my address and DOB over the phone to someone who isn't really proving anything?" So she told me to Google them, again quoting the name Receivables Outsourcing and said I should call back when I feel comfortable.
I Googled Receivables Outsourcing LLC (apparently the real company ends in "Inc", not "LLC" but they definitely said "LLC" to me. So that's also weird). This company does appear to be a real collections company for medical billing. But I have no proof that the people who called are indeed that company.
In theory it could be legit. It would actually kind of make sense that they couldn't give any info regarding what it was about unless they verified I was the person they were looking for, because of HIPAA laws. It would also make sense since they're supposedly a collections agency, they're searching for the right person but can't be sure I'm the right person, all they have is a name and number. That's what collections agencies do, they find people, and this could be them trying to do that.
In conclusion, it's either a very clever scam to use info they have about people to try to earn their trust and get MORE info, OR a legit company using a really stupid way to find people. I am inclined to say it's a scam.
This is because, if they have my address and just need to hear it from me for verification, the obvious better choice for them would be to MAIL me something. Thats why real collections companies do. Clearly they don't have my address! But if this is for medical billing, how could they not have my address. Any medical incident is going to have lots of forms where I gave them my address.
Why would they be calling people with my name and trying to make sure they were the right person by asking for the address. Thats just sketchy as hell, and relying on people being dumb enough to scam (even if this isnt a scam!) to get verification. It's just bad practice to ever be calling people and asking for their address.
Also, why did they say "have a nice day" and hang up right away the first time I called when I said I can't give out my address over the phone? It sure sounds like they were thinking "oops, we got a smart one, hang up!" If they're a collections company, why did they just hang up like that? Theyre job is to collect money owed, right?
Anyway, these are my thoughts on my experience with this caller. I believe it is a scam. If they are indeed a medical billing collections company like they say they are, they need to change their methods because this is bad practice! I hope this was helpful. - CWG40http://www.theroi.com/

- 4gathI replied to a VM left on my cell phone from 1 800 234 1357 number and the 1st thing they wanted me to enter was my home number which I did. When I asked who the company is, the representative refused to identify who they are, or what they wanted from me unless I give my date of birth. I thought this might be an Identity theft scheme so I refused. The rep was very rude and simply told me to have a nice day and hung up on me. He/She acted as if they are a god. I don't give my Personally Identifiable Information on the phone and especially when the company refuses to tell me who they are. Someone help see if this phone number can be reported to the correct government agency to protect people like me.
