- Badge714 replies to ThawinSo the United Nations uses 'Outlook'? A free web based email address? Plus they use 'Western Union' (a cash wire transfer service) for a business transaction? ( a VERY big no-no) I smell an advance fee scam.
- 1 800 325 6000call received from this number - the individual did not identify themselves when asked who was calling and the company/individual name did not come up on my call display. I think they hung up when I immediately on hearing the male voice asked who was calling.

- KMGot a call from 800-325-6000 saying it was Western Union and that yesterday someone tried to transfer funds for $75, that they had a profile at WU in my name. Suggested I call my bank about it, said it was for a bank called Fia Card Services. Never heard of that bank, nor have I ever had a WU account. Later in the call they said the amount was $275. Obvious fraud, verified by my own bank.

- No name| 2 repliesThis started when could not download the security I purchased for my computer. Called number on box. Person answering said they were technical support. I had no reason to question that,as I have used this particular security brand for years. No more. Said they found virus on my computer needless to say I was sucked in. Payed for computer fix. Stupid me!! Then they downloaded my antivirus software. After changing all my pass words turned off computer and hadn't used it since.
I got a call yesterday saying company was going out of business and were going to refund my money through Western Union. Needless to say they were trying to get money out of my account with card I had initially used to pay them.
Called my bank first thing this morning blocked any activity and cancelled card. Let them know what was going on and how it all came about.
They just called again and said they were calling from Western Union. I told them they were not getting any more money from me. He tried to interrupt me and I told him I had cancelled my card, I was not participating in their scam and not to call me again. I then hung up on him.
I don't understand how they can continue to get away with this. When I was talking to them on the phone yesterday I heard other people in the office talking to people about refunding their money. I hope no one got sucked in as I initially did. I thought I was smarter than that.
Hopefully I have heard the end of it. I lost some money, but hopefully others learn from my mistake. They gave me a call back number for customer support 202-285-2011 called number no answer, email address: windowshelpnsaveatoutlook.com, managers name Michael Mercer and they sounded like they were from India. Hard to understand.- Caller: Western Union

- Slim replies to No nameSince the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, or otherwise disable it, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer.
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything.
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies.
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. Backup non-executable personal, data files to an external storage device. (Executable files might be infected).
8. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
9. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you.
10. Connect to the internet only AFTER all the above have been done.
11. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and change your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!
You fell for one scam, and might be susceptible to others mentioned on this site:
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts.html
Read that info to educate and help protect yourself!
Honest computer companies do NOT cold-call people, or cause popups from websites to tell them their computers need fixing!
Some scammers even have websites, and falsely advertise they are associated with popular software packages or computer companies; so do NOT believe a "we will fix your computer remotely" site, and allow them access to your computer!

If your computer needs fixing, bring it to a local repair shop
