automated when calling back. identifies as "hospital billing" which hospital??? then asks last 4 of MY social. but i wait further, in queue, it says is attempt to collect bill.

So,? if one takes a friend w/o insurance to an ER, there's pressure to register for that person who's anyway,  out of it.

may wind up i'm signed on as guarantor--which seems OK upon an initial visit (but then, this friend has a 2 more, possibly a recent one i wasn't there with) That 1st visit and next 2, i comply with video-registrar to pay like 300 on the spot. also, i did use my card since who happens to be carrying that much cash any random time?

well it's now august 2021, first call(?)  from this # that my phone id's as an 800 "unknown." (although generally i ignore toll free and any identified as unknown callers.)  i hang up prior to connection to a live person, to check out 800 notes, (thanks it's still up in the web.)  it may be that it's really Tenet, if they own  a hospital here in Tx, and likely 90 days have passed.

i'm wondering what laws apply in these sudden crisis situations.  of course were my friend more well, and/or insured, it wouldn't have arisen. the bills are in any case, addressed to him --but it may be it's where my credit is additionally or only affected, so good samaritans: caveat please, and do  like i'm going to, to try and learn legalities and  best way better than simplest way of lgnoring it as it cannot be all that simple.

    THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM.
This number when called does not identify themselves and the first thing it asks for is the last four numbers of your SS#.  Hospitals don't call you out of the blue they send bills in the mail. Don't give anyone your private information over the phone.
Scammers, posing as hospital representatives, are contacting patients by phone and trying to obtain personal information, credit card numbers and other sensitive data. Using a process called “caller ID spoofing”, the scammer alters the caller ID to show the hospital's name and a local phone number.Mar 8, 2021

I returned a call to this number regarding a family member that passed 4 months ago. They said they had no record by his name or birthdate. They wanted his social security number. I said obviously someone had his info otherwise I wouldn't be calling this number back. I asked where do you work? He stated "Abrazo" I said "how can you tell me you have no record, if someone left a message and I returned their call and that he passed in one of your facilities, the same facility that reports a record of death to the State". I proceeded to say " I am his niece and not his daughter or his spouse" He replied "can I get their number?" I said "he doesn't have a daughter or spouse"
He asked "can you mail in his death certificate?" I said "I don't have access. Why can't you request it from your administrative offices?" He replied "that's not how it works" I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was placed on hold for 10 mins until I hung up.

I honestly don't know if this call was legit or it was a scam. Either way I do not like giving out info over the phone. You never know who you are talking to or what their intentions are.
Stay safe everyone and ask questions. Have a wonderful and productive day.

I do not owe any hospitals any money so I knew this call had to be scam. When I called back on a completely different number (work phone) they called me on (my home phone) they said they found my account by using the phone number. The next thing they asked was for the last four digits of my social.

For weeks I have been getting collection calls from this number.  I eventually answered to see what this was about.  The first agent would only tell me that he was contacting David Habout a balance due at a St Mary’s Hospital.  I refused to give him my last name since he admitted that had no ID info and needed that from me.  I again explained that I have never been to ANY St Mary’s hospital ANYWHERE and told them that they need to find that person somewhere else.
This week I spoke with them three times and I have had enough.  They refused to transfer me to a supervisor but never disconnected the call or came back to answer.

It was for a bill I had only received two weeks earlier from a visit that was barely 4-weeks old. They harassed with calls three times a day but all automated so got nowhere and wasn't about to give my last four numbers of my social security because I never give this to any medical services.

Caller left a message stating that they were with "Dupont Medical Center". Obviously I didn't return the call. Never been to a "Dupont Medical Center" (or anything remotely similar).

CHI Health Offc. is the caller ID, but it's not. These hacks are pretty good. Yes, I'm registered on the donotcall.gov site, but it doesn't mean I'm protected. They're overwhelmed. These sickos have a miserable existence.

I have payment arrangement with two Tenet hospitals, but they continue to call trying to pressure me into paying the whole bill. Offering me a discount. This number calls now, but it's dead air, I can't sit waiting for someone to come to the line while I'm at work.

Called me saying I owed money for my son's surgery.   I paid the amount to the hospital on the day of the surgery.  The scammer said I owed more on the surgery and when I asked her how much,  she couldn't tell me.  She said she had to talk to my son.  When I said, I speak for my son two times, she wouldn't hear of it, she would have to talk to him only.  She said she will call back on Monday to talk with him only.  Good luck scammer because I blocked your number.
The funny thing was the number didn't show the hospital's name on the caller ID.

I continued to receive calls from "Hospital Office", 800-346-0775, with no message left.  I called and they wouldn't share any information with me until I faxed them my father's POA documents.  I completely understand the need for that but my father lives in a memory care facility. They have all of that information.  With all of the elaborate scams out there, I just told the rep to let it go into collections.  I would not be sharing ANY vital information.
