That number is HSBC located in Salinas, California. They called me also with the ID stating "Not Provided". I called them back as I have no card with them. They denied calling and refused to remove my number from the system. The one I talked to sounded like it was another master of the English language from India.I gave them a tongue lashing. Good luck with them.

Got a call on my cell, didn't answer and while I was looking the number up on this site got a home phone call from same number. Guy said he was HSBC about questionable charge out of state and wanted card info.  I wouldn't give  him anything over the phone and he gave me a phone number to call to confirm. I wouldn't call that either and called the number on the back of my card. It was confirmed through HSBC there was a fraudulent charge-the one the first caller referenced-and we took care of it.  I didn't mention the phone number I was given but will include it on the followup report they send me.
Why do these scamming miscreants exist in life?

I received a call from this number and they said it was CAPITAL ONE! Fraud dept. so is it HSBC OR CAPITAL ONE????

I received a call from 8003957555 he said it was CAPITAL ONE FRAUD DEPT. Yet I have no card from them!!! Said to have my card ready when I call back!

it is real...i just called and spoke to someone.  i told them the message seemed fake....they said someone had tried to charge my card oversees...it was me...i live in CA //im from scotland and sometimes i order things from the homeland...it was actually declined so i used my other bank card and it was fine...good to know they are really watching what goes on

capital one bought a few of hsbc accounts so it is capital one depending on the type of card u have. when in doubt just call the number on the back of ur card ..not rocket science

The thick accents are a often dead giveaway for these types of fraud.  They've gotten wise, and regularly salt these boards with fake reports of a "legitimate" call.

This is a legit number. If you want, call number on back of your card and they will verify.

Just got a call and when I picked up it immediately disconnected.  I called back and got an automated message saying  "welcome to card services and to enter the last 4 digits of your account number."

Received a call from this number today.  It is HBSC/Capital One Fraud protection line.  If they call you, they should provide you with a reference number to access the info they are calling about.  I had to give them the answer to the 'secret question' that I set up with them and last 4 digits of SS.  But they gave me the info of the last 3 transactions happening on the card and I had to verify they were correct.  They called because my son (who uses card) was traveling out of state, so it looked suspicious. I also simultaneously got an email from HBSC regarding the same thing.

I didn't answer left a message. Stated that I could save money paying for nursing school. I'm not going to school for nursing.

It was a legitimate call from the credit card fraud dept.  The questioned a couple of charges.

Received call on cell phone. Number only indicated. No company name. Did not answer. Voice mail left. Called while I was shopping. Card refused at check-out, so I used another one. Found e-mail requesting verification of purchases. All legit. Later called number on back of card and was told that this number is, in fact, their fraud department and that everything was now clear on my account. Had first called the number left on the phone. Received message that system was updating and therefore could not connect me. Glad they are monitoring carefully but wish the notification system were more helpful. Choices of call type below do not offer appropriate choice for this situation.

This number called me this evening. Caller ID said "Toll Free." Suspecting another &@$%*! spam call, I declined it and ran the number here. Users here confirmed legitimacy, but to be sure I called the number on my statement. I was immediately put over to the fraud department. I was asked if I had used the card today. I hadn't. Then I was asked to verify recent transactions. Sure enough, some fraudster tried to charge a flight on "Chinese Airlines" and something for nine bucks.

Not the first time Cap One called to verify suspicious activity on my card. I'm grateful that Cap One has a robust fraud and security department.

Call came from Cap One. Call center gal said I won't be charged, but I'll monitor my account online just to be sure. The gal cancelled my card and said Cap One will forward a replacement ASAP.

Yes, the number is real. I just got a call and then followed it up with the phone number of this card and they indeed verified the compromise.

It is actually from Capital One.  They process cards for a lot of a lot of department stores.  It is a legitimate call  I just got one because there were fraudulent charges on my account.  If you get a call from them and are not comfortable, call the number on the back of your card.

Legit number. After 6 calls in a row, that I did not answer, I finally answered. Scared though. Well, it was from Capital One credit card. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card. Representative did confirm the number calling. There was someone trying to change my personal information.  It's a shame that we have to be afraid to answer the phone these days, but today I'm glad I did.
Just don't give any info out, unless you are the one who initiates the call.
