Got the call from this number a few minutes ago.  Very suspicious, because caller ID lists it as TOLL FREE NUMBER.  If it was really a legitimate call from a bank, it would have the bank's name.

It's Legit.   BOA Online Banking Service Agreement (last updated October 27, 2015)  The website is:   https://www.bankofamerica.com/online-banking/service-agreement.go   (if you go there and do a find function (Control F) and enter the phone number 800-427-2449 in the pop up box it will reveal that BOA's website uses this telephone number and identifies it as one of their fraud alert numbers.   For heaven's sake its right on their website.  A couple of days ago it was late at night and I miss keyed my expiration date on an online transaction.  They knew about it and sent a letter (after trying to contact me by phone).   They asked for the complete 16 digit card number, expiration date, 3 digit security code and my address.   They knew where I had tried to use my card and had it denied due the keystroke error and what my last successful transaction was for and with whom.  Why did they ask for all this information you may ask ... simple I called them.   They had to make certain it was actually me calling and that I was legitimate because I was calling from a phone number that they did not have in their records.

Suuure it's legit. If it was ACTUALLY them, don't you think they would already HAVE that information?

Completely legit.  I just purchased something online from Brazil and they called right away to see if it was valid.  They confirmed my last weeks worth of purchases and said they would realease the hold on my card.  I looked online and there was indeed a hold on my card - which they then released.  The only thing they confirmed was my user name and the last few digits of my credit card - they didn't ask for any other information you couldn't fairly easily get anyway.

    It's a phishing fraud.
Call the number on the back of your credit card.

Received a letter from Bank America speaking to transactions that were attempted that seemed inconsistent with my charging patterns and requesting I call 1.800.427.2449. Took a recommendation from above and called the toll free number on the back of the card.  Was informed the letter did come from BA and the above number was legitimate.

Oooh this one was good, especially because I had set a travel notice two days prior. They even had the last 4 digits of my card, and the card type, very clever. The dead giveaways were as follows. The accent of the original caller and horrendous script reading, certainly not Indian, as one may expect from outsourced calls. The fact that my credit card had not made a charge in over 2 weeks, evidence enough for me. Finally, the snooty behavior (as mentioned by previous comments here) of the woman who answered the phone. Noone, and I repeat noone, would laugh when someone mentions a possible scam or fraud attempt. This waste of air actually snickered when I mentioned that the number I called was a potential scam.

Do not listen to the folks who sounds like they were thrilled to give their information out posting that this is "legit", because I have never had someone answer the phone and say, "Please tell me your entire credit card number, followed by your entire social security". Don't be foolish, unless you were born yesterday.

And let me go even further, some of their minions have posted bogus links showing that, "these numbers are legit". Okay click on that link, and then look up Bank of America on google, and enter the trusted site. See how clever these mongooses are, the site looks very very close. But not close enough. Even the 'sign in' location is on the wrong side of the page, the numbers are completely different. I hope the government gives these guys the shaft.

Attempting to verify that this number TRULY belongs to BOA. I am finding mixed results on this site. The caller was female, said she was calling from Bank of America and asked for someone by name.

When I picked up the phone (12/30/2015), a lady asked me to provide my credit card numbers. She said she worked for the bank credit cards fraud dept.

Mixed results is tells tells you something.   Numbers are so easily spoofed these days.   If someone gets a call such as this, my recommendation it to thank the caller, and then to call your bank using the contact number on the back of your credit card.  If you can't find the card, get the number from the bank's web site or other trustworthy source.

I advise that you don't call any number that is given to you by someone who calls out of the blue.  Too many people have been tricked by this scam.  Takes a minute more, but it is much faster than having to clear up a case of stolen ID.

It is safest to use or find a number you know/trust.  Be Smart, Be Safe!!

Fraud for sure. I don't have a BoA account.  You can tell the people saying otherwise on this thread are full of it. If you call the number then give them fake info and try to waste their time. Hit 'em back.

I got a voicemail from this number (800-427-2449).  The voicemail said to call back regarding possible fraud on one of my cards administered by FIA card services.  The voicemail included my full name, my wife's full name, and the last 5 digits of our card.  I Googled the 1-800 number which brought me here.  After reading a bit, I was highly skeptical and decided not to call the number.  However, I went to the official Bank of America website (using Google search, not any link posted here) and searched for the number and it DID come up.  I then decided to login to my FIA card services account and sure enough, one of my cards was on hold.  It provided a number to call.  This was a different 1-800 number and matched the number on the back of my card, which is obviously legit.  I called and there were in fact 2 fraudulent charges to "test" the card#, one for $1.00 and one for $10.00.  So I'm glad I followed up and didn't just blow it off.  The person I spoke to never asked me for any personal information other than my name and address.  No  credit card numbers or SS numbers.  I was also calling from the phone number listed on the account.

Got an urgent sounding call this morning from "SI Card Services" reporting "possible fraudulent" activity.
Called the number on the back of my card instead, and as others have reported, there was no problem with my account.

Got a call from this number, they did not leave a message.   People, this is a scam, most likely the people who stole your credit card information in the first place or associated with them.  Do not give them any information and call the phone number on the back of your credit card.

I suspect there are 2 things going on here, one legit, one not.  That 2449 number is a legitimate BOA number.  Just go to the official BOA website, enter the number into the search box in the upper right of the homepage, and you'll see the number listed in the online banking service agreement.  Or enter this into a Google search: '800-427-2449 site:bankofamerica.com'.  You'll get 2 hits for the same service agreement, one in English, one in Spanish.

I got a voicemail from the 2449 number yesterday.  Rather than call that number back, I verified online that my account was indeed on-hold and then called the number on the back of my card.  There were in fact fraudulent charges on my account that have now been reversed and I've been issued new cards.  The person requested no personal information.

That's the legit part.  But, based on the sheer number of complaints here, I suspect that some scammers are spoofing that number and getting people to call them back and divulge full account numbers and other sensitive personal information.  So, as others have said, if you get a call from this number, always call back using the number on the back of your card to check if there's actually a problem or not.  Or login to your account to see if it's on hold for possible fraudulent activity.  Preferably both.  Just respond with an official path that you are comfortable with.

From my experience and research yesterday, including reading all 20 pages of comments here, I think there are clearly phishing-type scams occurring with this number.  But it's also a legit BOA number.  The good news is you don't have to believe me or anyone else.  Just call the number on the back of your card, not some random number left on your voicemail.

I got a call from this number, deferred the opportunity to respond with data, was advised to call the number on the back of the card. Did so, an attempted fraud charge had been attempted, new card an the way.   Seems legitimate to me.

I was just dealing with a legit fraud issue on my BOA card and dealt with it on the website.  Then this number called, rang twice and hung up.  Not sure why they called after it was taken care of but I am assuming it is a legit number considering I was JUST dealing with a fraud issue through my BOA card.  Either way, I don't answer any calls I don't recognize and they hung up before I would have answered anyway...
