- Protect your identity replies to chris and amber| 2 repliesThe best defense is a great offense. I learned too the hard way.
Scammers do not care about you or the harm or misfortune the cause.
And yes while technology is great it can be and is Also used maliciously to get to your funds, no matter how much or little you have.
As another poster posted nowadays anyone can mask a number. And fake a caller id. Or even email addresses.
Don't give out any information what so ever. Call the company back at a legitimate number. Get a brick address and a persons name. Most scammers will want to get your info fast and will not reveal their contact and mailing info to you.
Resist. Don't give info even if they act legit. Get info, verify it first no matter the pressure the try to put on you. Only call back when you are 200% sure who they are.
Also get identity protection through life lock etc. and if you know or suspect fraud, notify the real company. For instance if you actually do have a BofA acct and got scammed, or any other bank, notify their fraud dept immediately. They will work with state and local officials if a crime/ fraud has been committed. And often will make your account whole if fraud is confirmed.
Pls flow up with your real account holder.
Remember to also report all those incidents to consumer protection bureau. They are extremely helpful and resourceful to help you fight back.
Good Luck and all the best to your recovery. - Wake Up replies to gheenaThey can take a legitimate business number and use it to mask there scammer fake phone number.
Of course if you call the real number you get the real company.
The point is that the scammers are masquerading as BofA. They can only do that using a real business number by making an outbound call to you.
As another poster said, they can even call you with your number.
The bottom line is if it were BofA they would let you know why they are calling on your voice mail. Or if you said you felt uncomfortable giving out your information they'd give you other options.
Be smart. Don't be fools. Just don't give out your information to anyone. Tell them you'll go directly to the branch if there is an issue with your account.

- mmttHi! Everybody!
I was given this number 1-800-432-1000 by a BOA bank teller, who advised me to call if my ordered check books did not arrive in a 14-day time frame. So I think it is not a scam number if you yourself make a phone call to them, using this number.- Caller: none
- Badge714One more time: NEVER give out personal, or financial information on a call you did not make. Caller ID can be easily faked. If you call a financial institution - you get the number. Look it up in phone book, statement, or back of credit card. NEVER call back a number from an email, fax, or text until you verify it.
- CPThis number is on an efax with a virus attachment - never answer.
- JasonCaller from 855 251 6636 claimed to be from BA and wanted my date of birth to "verify" my identity. I refused as BA never calls to ask this information. I asked the caller for their number and they gave me the 800 432 1000 number to BA, not the number they were calling from. BA fraud department verified the call was a scam.
- b of a customerThey called @ 2:30 am...googled and got to here. Looked suspicious (that late at night). Checked my act. Ok. Called B of A. All they said was everything's good, but don't give out info over phone. DUH !
- Anon| 1 replyHmm, was hesitant to pick up the phone when I google this phone number in, but turns out to be an actual legit BoA manager calling upon a mistake that they had made with my bank account. I was being extremely careful not to give out any of my information, but the person did not ask any private information but just confirming there was a mixed up with my debt card problem that I had earlier.
Tip, never give out personal information out when they call to you. If they ask for private information, tell them you're busy and you'll call them back within 10 minutes so you know you will be calling to an official number.- Caller: Bank of America
- Annie Anonymous| 1 replyDO NOT ANSWER! I received 3 calls from this number, but no message, believe they are scammers!
- Robert Grant replies to HarrisonIt's at the back of my Debit Card too, however the number can be spoofed and show on your caller ID even though its not them.
If any of you fear that it[s not legit go to your local Branch and have them call the number and figure out the motive for the call. - Robert replies to AnonTrue..however in order to reveal detailed information about your account, they might ask you for SSN only the last 4 and your DOB or Mothers Maiden Name. you dont want your roomate to pickup the phone, Impersonate you and find out about your income or expenses habits...right?
- 1630 7458223 replies to HarveyScammers called my phone from bank of America. Trying to get $ sent to India. I didn't fall for it. They are stupid. I'm broke.ahahahaha!
- Help replies to Annie AnonymousThey called me from people in my contacts from my phone ? And this boa number saying I owe money . How can they do that
- Joann GrippaI received a look like post card saying that my account was overdrawn. I don't have a account with Bank of America
- JMultiple calls like this, from different numbers, and it's everyday. I filled out something online for benefits and it's been happening since
- RacsoI am a security guard at a BOA call center. Our phones at the security desk get "ghost calls" from this number (800.432.1000) ... They are so frequent and sketchy, that I decided to google it and found this thread along with other pages suggesting that this is a scam number. I must say, I have to believe it and I'm in a quest to ask as many long term BOA associates as I can about this issue. I will try to spread any useful info that I find on the subject.
- Caller: BOA 800.432.1000
- BobI called BOA back and they had no note of just calling me, could be a spoofed caller ID....
I know all too well about these scam, so called charity and political survey call centers, even though they are not in your area code they can spoof the caller ID to make it appear they are calling locally (found this out when I had one investigated that was calling 10x a week). Several of these call centers moved into to my neighborhood that brought with it crime, drugs, gang activity for years. Because of the loop holes in the law nothing could done to shut them down, for years the police were frustrated. I eventually sold my house and moved to get away from the crime this call center introduced. Where I work also picked up and moved away as it was bad for business....
One way to weed out if it is a legit call or one of these scum/sweat shop/boiler room call centers is to do a counter survey with the caller, I found this online that is indicative:
-How drunk are you? Can you remember your name?
-What’s your preferred hard liquor you drink on the job?
-Would the nearest liquor store go out of business if your call center moved away or closed?
-Are you high or tripping out from shooting up?
-Was the sex in the back parking lot or stairway good?
-And did you leave the condom or needles on the ground despite there’s a school or church nearby?
-Are a gang member? If so how did where you able to climb the stairs to work while wearing your pants around your knees?
-Have you broken into your fellow employee’s car to steal the stereo? If so, how’s that stereo you stole sound in your car?
-In a 30mph zone and in the parking lot, what’s your preferred speed? 60mph? 90mph?
-Does the car you drive look like it barely survived a demolition derby race?
-The next morning when you discover even more damage to your car, do you remember what or who you hit?
-How hard is it driving with your headlights off at night while you drive to a nearby business to vandalize it or break-in or to meet your drug supplier/distributer?
-At 11pm when you get off work, how many residential city blocks were vibrated by your earthquake frequency car stereo?
-When you leave work, how many energy drink containers, alcohol containers, uneaten food, needles, trash etc did you toss out your window as you drive away? How many nearby businesses owners spent each part of their day picking up this litter?
-How often have you lost control of your car while under the influence in the call center parking lot and nearby business’s parking lots? If so, did you tear up some landscaping? Hit a building? Hit a fellow worker’s car? Did you realize part of the problem was because you were driving backwards at 60mph?
-How many times have you been in jail?
-Is there a warrant out for your arrest?
-How many nearby businesses where forced to move away?
-Did the remaining businesses put up cameras? Install fences with barb wire on top? Now have full time security guard?
-Are you all on a first name basis with the police officer, sheriff deputy, paramedic, ambulance driver that practically live there from all the daily visits?
-If you are not a criminal how many times have you been victimized, bullied, and threatened by your work mates? Is your manager a criminal? Does your manger force you to work impossible hours 7 days a week? Does your manager openly brag out vandalizing, tagging, dealing/distributing drugs, breaking into nearby businesses and cars? Has your manager or workmates broken into your car while you’re inside working? - Paul love replies to Me| 1 replyI called bank of america to check balance.
