This is a legitimate number used by the Chase CC fraud protection system. You will get a call from them, if their system thinks that a recent credit card transaction could be fraudulent.

You should answer this call.  It is an automated call from Chase CC fraud department.  You provide no sensitive information. It describes a recent transaction to you (date, time, amount, who to) and asks if you made the charge.  You press 1 if yes, 2 if no.

Yea, this is actually Chase fraud department. I got an automated message on my machine saying they wanted to verify recent account activity. I was very wary of this call, especially since when you call the number back they immediately ask you to enter your 16 digit account number. But it is Chase, and they alerted me to a suspicious charge that was denied to my account from another country for like, $11.67. When I asked if this could be an honest mistake of entering the wrong number and getting mine, she said no because the same charge had been seen on many other accounts. That in itself is suspicious to me, but they immediately issued me a new card number and I haven't had any other problems.

Same here.  Just got a call from 18004549078 which made me suspicious.  Looked up Chase Fraud Dept online; called and verified that it was valid.  And it appears as if there was some fraud on the credit card account.

The number does appear to be ligitimate, but not without issues.  Their methodology is not good, to say the least.  Received a recorder message stating that there was suspicious activity on my CC account ending in ####.  Returned the call and they asked for the acct #, then the last 4 digits of SS#, which I did not give.

Then I called the number on the back of the CC and asked for the Fraud Dept.  They had never heard of the number left on my answering machine but said it could possibly be from their Phillipine call center.  They could not verify this immediately so I put an immediate hold on the account.

Then, I called the original number back and spoke with a rep.  They immediately wanted the account number again but I asked them to verify my account from the phone number they called me at originally.  They started asking all kinds of detailed information and would not even give me the time of day when I asked them to give me the general reason for calling in the first place.  I do understand the nature of the call and the need for security questions to be asked and answered but this was way too extreme.

I did verify they were located in the Phillipines and am reasonably comfortable that they are who they say they are but it was impossible to communicate rationally with them.  I politely told them that I would not give them any additional information and that I wasn't comfortable with the conversation so I hung up.

These people are really not too sharp if you ask me and it is very frustrating that they cause so much trouble for nothing.  There has not been any supsicious activity on the account from what I see in the online statement and the people in the US confirmed this.

What a terrible way to treat customers.  Here's another argument for getting the call centers back in the US.  Wow, what a frustrating experience.

sounds suspicious that a "fraud" dept has time to call about

    $11. amounts.

I wouldn't give out info over the phone. They can credit your account on their own, they have the info, or they would mail out info with your statement.

If Chase suspects fraud, why in the hell don't they just email me?
Better yet, Chase could have sent an "alert" to my online account.

I never answer phone calls from toll free numbers, period.

Said there was fraudulent activity on my credit card. I gave no information, but called Chase myself. They told me where the fraudulent charges were from and cancelled my card. It was not anywhere near where I live!  I'm glad that a "red flag" went up somewhere, and hope this incident is over.

I do not answer Toll Free numbers, period.  But I keep a log of date and time of each call and when a certain number of calls are posted I file a complaint with the FCC and my state Public Service Commission requesting action on their part.  I am also registered on the National Do Not Call and State Do No Call lists, but some people are too stupid to check the lists. I have not bothered to check with Chase as my statements are scrutinized very carefully. Try blowing a loud whistle in the phone mouthpiece when picking up the phone.  Works like a charm.

This number showed up on my caller ID today.  They called 3 times and left 1 message saying they needed to verify charges on my cc.  They included the last 4 numbers on my card and that it was a SWA Rapid Rewards card.

I finally called the # back and didn't like that they wanted me to enter my whole cc #.  So, I called the # on the back of my card and entered the last 4 of my cc #.  Then, an automated message started reading off about 5 or 6 charges.  I was asked to enter 1 if all were legit, 2 if at least one was unrecognized, or 3 if none were legit.

So, just call the number on the back of your cc instead.

It's legitimate.  I received automated call from Chase Fraud Department indicating there may be fraudulent activity on my account and to call 800-454-9078.  Rather than calling that number, I called the 24 Hour Cardmember Service number listed on back of my card.  I then provided limited account and identifying information after which I confirmed there were two fraudulent charges on my account totaling $190.  Chase immediately closed the account and will issue cards with a new number in 5 business days.

So what happens when you don't have a Chase Card? Do I have to discover if any of my cards are somehoe connected to Chase? They don't SAY so! Did someone open a Chase account in my name? How would I discover that?

We received several calls from this number while on vacation.  Chase wanted to confirm that our purchases were in fact valid as we had made purchases near home, on vacation, and on the internet.  This number is a legitimate call-back number for Chase's fraud department.

    thanks
I got a recorded call this morning from this number, but balked when I returned the call and they asked for my full account number.  I checked this site and called the number on the back of the card as suggested.  They only asked for the last four digits of the card but also asked for the last four digits of my social security number, so that's not unusual.  The person I spoke to had a slight accent, so it's possible I still got the Phillipine call center.  I had tried to use the account the day before and had been rejected.  It seemed that the charge had gone thru anyway but the person I spoke to was able to confirm that it had not.

I think the call was ligitimate.  After verifying all of previous addresses and the charges in question (from somewhere in Nevada for a total of over $800), they gave my account balance when I asked for it. They had access to too much information and history for it not to be ligitimate.

I looked up the number online, assuming it was a telemarketer, but then found the information that it was Chase.  Just this morning I had made an online charge in Canadian dollars so I guess that is what was suspicious.  I called the number back and the automated system walked me through the charges, which I was asked to verify. I am glad they are at least on the ball to spot any suspicious activity!  The Caller ID should at least read "Chase CC Services" so as to alert you.

We called our bank and they said it was NOT a Chase number.  If it is this is the stupidest way to do business I can imagine.  It smells just like phish.  We tried to get to a person when they called for the third time but after waiting a very long time it said there was no one to help us.

If this is real what is Chase thinking?  This could be so easily copied (By bad guys)and we'd be giving our account number away.  STUPID!

No matter what, no one should key in thier account number to an unknown system.

I got several calls from them today.  I have no business with Chase, I am not even certain they do business in San Francisco.  After researching the number, I called the 800 number (800-454-9078) and told them I had no business with them and to stop calling me.

If they do not I will file a complaint against them with the Feds as I am on the do not call list.
