Yes and no.  There seem to be scammers spoofing this number.  You are right to call Amex on a number you dial yourself.  Much safer!

Constantly calls me. Never leaves a message. I don’t answer 800 or other toll free numbers or basically any number I don’t know. When they don’t leave a message I assume it’s a scam.

Download HIYA if they call on your cell - it blocks them every time.  They try me 3-4 times a day but the calls don't ring thru...just show on my missed call list

24/7 the caller of 800-528-4800 is a nuisance and abusive. Even this morning on SUNDAY they called wow really don't you have any respect?

Can't say how long ago this number called me if at all, but have heard of this scam before. If you need to call the Amex number on your card, that assumes you really do have an account

How does posting about your personal problems help others? You know who your caller is, so why come here?

Keep in mind, just because a number MIGHT be legit, doesn't mean the caller is!

Scammers spoof legitimate numbers to trick people into a false sense of security to answer their calls and attempt to get money or personal information from you.
This is why no one will encourage others to report of legitimate callers, as they only confuse people into believing it is a legit call when a scammer has called them and they come here to find out about the call.

People who get legitimate calls would know its legitimate and have no reason to come looking up the number.
800notes is about exposing scammers, shady businesses and harassing type calls from debt collections, surveys, political and telemarketers or anyone who scams, lies or cons people.
People come to share those experiences to help each other understand who is bothering them and share what information they can to help point a finger at those criminals. The data is useful in knowing the frequency of the calls and even allow someone enough info to research towards getting a company's background history towards legal action.

The idea is to stop criminal callers, but posting about legitimate calls will not help anyone stop them. Sure people want to know who called and it could have been a legitimate call, but it only takes one post with confirmation of who the legitimate owner is to establish if its a call you can decide was legitimate for you. The fact that scammers can spoof ANY number is enough to say that even legitimate numbers have scammers who call pretending to be legitimate, so you just don't really know who is calling.

Shills will come here to post about the number being "legit" and try convincing people to answer the call so they can scam you.  So why help the criminals by posting about your call being legitimate? It has no impact on a legitimate business, only the shady ones and thats what we want to expose. Your legitimate post will only add confusion for others who read posts by those who shill about using the numbers they spoof.

NOT a scam.  American Express Fraud Prevention line calling to verify a charge.  It was an automated voice.  I appreciate the level of security AMEX provides by making sure a charge was not fraud.

Haven't heard that scammers routinely spoof legitimate numbers.  While your call may have been legitimate, that's not the case with other posters!

The caller ID says American Express Bogus Call - This is not American Express. They have hijacked AMEX's customer service #.

It is scam - someone spoofing the Amex fraud line — call number on back of your card or just check your activity online! People on here saying it’s real are part of the scam!

call and identify as from AMEX rep. asking about card and suspicious charges. AMEX DOESN'T CALL YOU

Unknown caller, so never answer or call back to avoid being added to scam lists. If we never answer or call back unknown numbers, these scams will dry up and die, just sayin’ … [hey, 800notes, how about most recent submissions on CID# searches shown first...!?]

Could be phishing

AMEX fraud department.  They were verifying charges.  NOT a scam.

Real AMEX phone, although showed as "RESTRICTED" on call ID so I did not answer and let go to voicemail...called number on back of my card and they confirmed it is one of there numbers...but be safe and always only call number on back of your CC

It's American Express collections department. Nonstop. Blocked.
