- Mel V.| 1 replyThis is a legitimate call from American Express. My son recently applied for a credit card and they were calling to verify information.
- Caller: American Express
- Badge714 replies to Mel V.The problem today is caller ID spoofing (faking). The number may be correct, but not the caller. Always a good idea not to give out personal information on a call you did not make. Look the number up, verify it, then decide.
- Buzz SagoriniI received voice mail from AMEX at 800-567-1083. The left a reference number and called on my home, office and cell phone. I called and they asked for SSN or you can wait and speak to someone with the reference number provided. The person who called was likely from overseas, so the message was hard to understand and the reference number a challenge to copy correctly. That said, this is an official American Express number and they just wanted to verify an additional user I added to account 2 - 3 days ago. It appears this is done when people sign up for new cards or additional cards. Due to credit card fraud on several of my credit cards a few years back, we have a 7 year credit freeze with the credit services (i.e. Equifax, TransUnion), so these calls are more common for me.

- JayJust called the AMEX fraud line because callers from this number have been harassing us for days. The rep just confirmed this is a new accounts number. This is in reference to Costco and AMEX parting ways next March. If you have a Costco AMEX your AMEX account will close at the end of March. AMEX is in the process of changing people over to their replacement card. They are soliciting people who already have a Costco card but don't want to issue to someone that isn't you. Hope that helps. It took me over an hour to get a straight answer from them. Call the AMEX fraud line and they will explain it.

- TJI called this number from a different telephone. It is American Express verifying I applied for the card and from what zip code I used in the application. They proceeded to tell me Approval status, credit limit and date of card receipt. That was all. All of the info was accurate since I had already checked the information in my online account.
- Caller: American Express
- Abdullah AnsariI applied for an amex blue cash card on Friday and got a call from the number on Wednesday asking for my details. i told the guy on the phone I was not comfortable doing that on the call so he said to call back on the number and go through the automated system if that works for me. Called back half an hour later and reached a rep who asked me for the application reference number or SSN. he said I would have received the reference number in email. On seraching my email I found that AMEX had emailed me the card approval half an hour ago. The rep was satisfied to hear that and said maybe that is why they had called earlier.
In short it does not seem so at first but this is a legit AMEX customer care number.- Caller: American Express

- AJReceived two calls from this number; one on the 18th of May and one on the 21st of May. Chinese call asking for a person with a Chines name. Both times the caller was advised that we know no such person and no such person has ever lived here. Do Not Call complaint filed. Number blocked.
- NeaReceived a call from 800-567-1083. Let it go to voice mail. Caller said he's from American Express. I don't have an American Express card. Pretty sure this is a scam. Here's what the message said.

- Massage EnvyCalls our business numerous times per day and hangs up.
- LindaCaller ID appeared as "out of area". Caller did not identify any company name only that he was from fraud control & needed to verify information on something I had requested. He gave reference number to use with telephone # given by caller.
- JuanThis is a legit number for the Delta American Express card. They asked for home address and DOB on the application for the card I requested this past week.
- Caller: American Express
- MiamiGal| 1 reply1-800-567-1083 is a scam number. Don't believe the scammers posting to this page saying it is legit. It is not. I have received about 10 calls with live person as well as recordings telling me they are calling concerning a question with an American Express card opened in my name. I have not opened a card with Am Ex nor has anyone else in my name as I checked.
- Caller: Bogus Callers, some sound American, several had Indian (Asian) accent
- Call type: Prank
- CelticDragon replies to MiamiGalActually it IS a legit number (a quick web search DOES show this) but that does NOT mean scammers don't spoof such numbers to appear legit themselves
- GDDon't believe all the posts saying this is a legit #,. American Express would never ask for a SSN over the phone, especially when they already have it. Multiple posts claim you can find the number by searching on Amex website, I did and could not find it.. the phishers are trolling this site,. BEWARE

CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD - budI am a victim of identity theft. I have received all kinds of calls from banks etc. They all send letters in mail either before or after. If before they ask me to call and confirm yes or no if I applied. The american express guy who had a thick accent said he was unable to send me a letter and gave me the 567-1083 number when I asked for a call back number to confirm he was who he said. Sounded bogus so have not called the number. I think maybe I should quit answering any number that I don't know.
- Caller: American Express
- sybilThis is a complete fraud. They may provide a legitimate amex phone number to call back if you question them, however its a phishing scam. I called and spoke to American Express after the call and they verified that the call I received was a scam. Don't be fooled by these smooth talkers. hang up and call the 800# on the back of your card.
- Caller: Amex (frauds!)
- BobequusMy wife received a call about a corp card I had applied for. Called the number and they started asking for info. I started to get suspicious and only gave my last name. It is very unique. Operator said that I had to supply my first name as well otherwise she could not help me. I told her i wouldn't and said I needed to check this out. No panic on operator's side. Finally got in touch with fraud division of AMEX. No application or card on file for me. Telephone number IS NOT AMEX according to guy in fraud that I spoke to. It is only two digits off an official AMEX number. Very slick scam. AMEX music, AMEX hold, operator is cool under pressure.
