I get about 3 or 4 calls a week from this number.  the  man on the phone has such a heavy accent I can hardly understand what he is saying.  All I could understand is that he is from Dell and was notified that I have a dangerous virus.

Now that's just shilly.  You get the shillver medal for this one.

Most people I know, who are tech geniuses, have not been able to contact Microsoft successfully, despite an average ten years of trying.

More than that, Microsoft responds to reports of computer problems by and issuing "updates".  They don't call you.

There is something called caller id spoofing. Many bogus operations use this in order to trick people into thinking that they are receiving calls from legitimate companies.  I have no idea of this is Microsoft number,  but I know for a fact that they DO NOT cold call people. Many of the comments here talk about that very fact.

According to your own words you initiated contact. Yes 800-642-7676 is MS's support number for customers to call in but it is not necessarily the number you will get calls from.

Also you should be made aware of something called Caller ID Spoofing.

It would seem that the telemaggoter is spoofing this number.  Now if we could just get some stamps on certain posts.

That's what I was thinking.

I realized that shortly after I posted, and clicked the ! to notify admins to remove my post, ruefully admitting I did not read other posts, or do my own search, to learn this was indeed a Microsoft number that anyone can call for paid assistance, and not at all like the scammer numbers that have been spammed on other websites like Yahoo Answers. My post needs to be removed.

I guess I'm too used to letting my posts stand as they are like most everyone else does on my regular forum even when we are wrong. Personally, I will never ask for more than admitting a mistake and owning it. You've done that. It's too late now but I would have asked to you let it stand rather than delete it. That would have said something good about you and other posters would have seen that. It would have shown you in a good light, something that the trolls and shills will never have.

You owned your mistake and that is what really counts.

I have asked for my own comments to be removed in the past when I have goofed. I don't think it is an unreasonable request.

These people are harassing me at least 20 times a day!

This number appeared associated with multiple fraudulent credit card charges on my card with the merchant identified as "MICROSOFT *STORE."  They were charging $100 every other day.  I have an actual account with microsoft store and none of these charges showed up there.  This is definitely a fraudster pretending to be Microsoft.

This is another in a long line of foreign scams. Whether they are trying to get into your computer or make you pay back taxes that don't exist. They call from a country that has no prosecution laws with the USA so they will just keep calling no matter what. Just block the number and move on.

I got a call from this number twice so far. The second time I called the number back and it went directly to Microsoft. When I did a search on the number after the first call, I got a name and regular phone number for call backs. Called that number and it went directly to Microsoft. Go figure.
