- LaceyoHave recieved about 5 calls from this number. Left messages for an "Edward" stating this is an urgent matter and to call back immediately with case # blah blah blah. I figured it was a credit agency just by the message. I don't know anyone named Edward though and thought about calling them back to let them know that the number they had was incorrect, but after reading all this I think I might just continue ignoring them as I have been doing. Too bad they're wasting my cell phone mintues with their calls though...

- porpetcalled today 10/27 at 3pm left message stating they had found me in 'their' government data base as being the father of xxx (my 25 yr old son) and asking me to contact him immediately before further legal actions were taken. She identified herself as a Senior representative for Bank of America in the [garbled] department. I haven't spoken to my son for a couple of years, he's just returned from Afghanistan and living in another state.

- HoustonGot a call from some chick trying to act all legal. Said that I needed to call her today. Dont know who they are and dont give a [***].
- robdiddySo they are still calling me, apparently 2 to 3 weeks ago I was suppose to be getting charges pressed against me by noon. it's been almost a month they started calling again and leaving voicemails saying "We are waiting in Oakland County to press charges against you please call us". I filed a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General already, now time to hit up new york.
I owe Chase yes I admit it, but I had several things come up and I just broke my foot and had a car accident within the last time I spoke to them. This is bullspit, I am willing to make payments again not pay an entire thing at once.
IMO, I think they make so much money they don't care fines. They scare people who don't know about this and collect big money off them and then get paid by Chase or whomever too.- Caller: Creditors Interchange

- Justice against bill collectorsI wanted to give everyone here some valuable info.
NEVER agree to payment plans! This is how they milk you with fees. Just like most bankruptcies people never make all the payments. Then they just keep adding interest and penalties and you have stressed out your life for nothing. If you have an old debt and you pay anything on it you make it a BRAND NEW COLLECTION ACCOUNT again on your credit.
Who am I? I am a real estate broker that knows credit like the back of my hand and collection practices. For the letters you have to send a SPECIFIC form called a CEASE and DESIST LETTER.
After you send this they cannot contact you by phone anymore or any of your family, friends, etc. If you are going to pay a debt only pay when you have all the money. Example balance on collection account is 700.00. You call and they will settle for 400.00. You say I can only pay 250.00 will you accept??
If they do tell them they will have to put in writing that this settlement will make the debt be considered paid in full and closed out. Some sneaky collection companies act like your payment will settle the debt and then they sell the remaining balance off to another collection company and the process starts again. So if you don't get the letter in writing don't give them one cent. Never give them access to your checking account or credit card info EVER.
If they still call after you send the cease and desist they will be fined heavily by the FCC. They always want to call and harass people as it's cheaper to get the money and has more of a success rate than mailing.
Another tactic is to say in collections that the account will be ELEVATED to an attorney. While this is TRUE the premise is false. The attorney is nothing more than a glorified bill collector. They will threaten to file a judgement against you but will spend a little money to file the papers but nothing else. This usually scares enough people into paying. If they go so far as to obtain judgement then they can pursue a seperate action called a bank levy (deducting your checking account) or wage garnishment(they can only deduct by federal law a certain amount usually 25 percent of your paycheck each period)
If they levy your bank account it is illegal for them to take social security funds etc. as those are protected.
If you have a lot of collectors and big amounts the best is to file bankruptcy and wipe it out in a chapter 7. You would have to file chapter 13 if you were protecting your house and wanted to keep other assets etc.
The downside to a chapter 13 is most never finish the 3 to 5 year repayment plan and your credit stays bad the whole time and your life is stressed.
A 7 it's done and you can get on with your life and start rebuilding credit immediately.

- annoyedthey call every couple of weeks, usually with a different name and reason for calling, At first I answered, told them I had no idea what they were talking about. They continue to call, just change who they say they are. Luckily, I have a panasonic cordless phone which lets you add numbers to a 'block' list, won't even ring, they get a fast busy signal. Works better than the phone co since it lets me block 800-numbers too.

- jamby17Keep getting phone message looking for someone named Tim. No such person lives at this number. I've had the same number for over 20 years. They always call during the day when no one is home and leave "urgent" messages. 10-15 messages a day between 9am and 5pm. Can't they get their facts straight before harrasing people? At least check to make sure you have the correct phone number.
