- Caroline replies to given up and letting them take tax moneyThis is a Tricura inc. a private company created by the people who stole student loan borrowers' data from the Ministry of HRSDC. They are the CRA scammers too. They also the "Fake CRA" people, and they scam people. The government does not use private company to collect money, but it makes its own collection. For student loans, the government write off after 8 years if you do not pay. These people are the CRA scammers and are also the customer service of the CRA. Most of them, or their supervisors, are the political staffs.
- London,ONyes they call early morning, I do not answer-- but slammed receiver down and they call right back
so annoying , should not be calling me, I have no debts
if I ever answer these unknown calls you will hear my SCREAMS!!!!!- Caller: 800-727-4145
- CarolineThis is the branch of "Fake CRA." They are the people who stole your information from the Min. of HRSDC because the bank, such as CIBC, does not want the government to know that they have been defrauding you. They use your identity to collect OSAP or student loan. You do not pay your loan to anybody but to Min. of HRSDC. First, you have to sign an agreement with the Min. If you Min. does not send you the agreement, that means, your loan has been written off.

- Sasha| 1 replyI have been receiving calls from this number for over a month now and they call from two different numbers. They are a legitimate collections agency called Total Credit Recovery. They also harassed me 4 years ago over an over-payment of my second career loan. They say I owe $3800 which is an incorrect amount and are calling on behalf of the ministry of finance. They used to threaten me about my tax returns. I went to Hi yes and Micheals the other day to discuss my options as I am unemployed and she basically told me to never to pay them another penny and not worried about them lol. Those idiots will lie and threaten all sorts of things. As far as I'm concerned if they have not given you proof , do not agree to anything over the phone do not acknowledge the debt - say you need to send me a letter . Best of luck.

- Tygerkat replies to SashaWhy do you say "they are a legitimate collections agency"? A legitimate collections agency doesn't behave this way.
- CrystalI have received 2 calls. I had no idea who they were and they identified themselves as Total Credit Recovery working with the Ontario Ministry of Finance. So that sounds pretty "official", right? I looked them up online with the Ontario Ministry of Finance connected to the call and nothing showed up online. I called them back and they said they were looking for someone else.
If they had tried to have me give them any information I would have said "send me a letter from you and I want one from the Ontario Ministry of Finance". With scams I have found asking for a letter (not an email, not over the phone) really stops the contact. They know they cannot provide a letter that is in any way legitimate.
The other people who have posted are right on, don't give them any information and I have found asking for a letter makes it more clear if they are official or not.- Caller: Total Credit Recovery

- Carson MulroneyJust got a call this evening. It was a prerecorded message identifying themselves and asking that I call them. I don’t have any longstanding debts or student loans. Haven’t been in school for 40 years. Hehe. I’m not keen on calling them back. Have two kids who had osap loans but they are paying them off on a plan and their loans are not affiliated with me.

- Sam replies to Ted| 1 replyI'm in the same situation I owe from student loans from years ago I want to start paying them off but just worried it's a scam from everything I been reading... is there a way to call the government to confirm these ppl work for them?
- B-Edwards replies to SamFrom the posts going back to 2009, I would think that these calls are NOT from a legit student loan repayment outfit. You should maybe start with your original loan documentation to find out how to make payments, and to who. Info you get from web searches will be a mix, with a good bit of misinformation, so be careful before you start giving out personal info or signing up for any "repayment."
- dave replies to given up and letting them take tax moneyi get the same calls I assume its for my student loan debt. They call anyday all day. Take my tax returns then lol
- jayI've had 3 voicemails telling me I have a file in their office waiting for me from the ontario ministry of finance. I have no outstanding debt. Whenever I call back the agent tells me my number isn't in their system, and yet I keep getting these calls. Just wanted to notify others who may be getting this call too.

- KimGot a phone call from them, because the person who last had the cell number I have, owed them money. I phoned the number, and said I purchased the phone from a company, and that person does not have access to my phone. I thought it was illegal for a company to cell a phone from someone elses number being on it? They did say they would remove the cell from their records. Let us see if they do!
- Caller: Not sure.
- Sasha| 1 replyI get a call from this number about 3 or 4 times a day. So first off - its Total Credit Recovery. They are a collections agency. Normally they use bots and they are all automated calls. My debt was sold to PRA group - unsecured credit card debt over 5 years old and this June its 3 years past the statute of limitations, meaning they cant sue to collect or ever garnish my wages or touch my bank account without a court order. Not sure if the Emergency Act lifted this veil of protection for me but I've been unemployed with 0 money comming in for 6 months and now the economy is [***] lol! Moral of the story - they are never getting a penny from me and I never answer the phone. This time it was a woman saying she is " calling on behalf of the ministry of finance " no [***] . You bought my debt a dime on the dollar . Gtfo . Changing my number soon.

- Tygerkat replies to SashaWhy bother changing your phone number? They'll find your new one. Besides, you'll also end up with all the unwanted calls the last owner of your new number was getting.
- Sum GuyI've been getting calls to my home phone (area code 519) from 8007274145 and 4167562096 about once or twice a week for about the past 6 months. Because I have a voip service, I can easily block them so that they get an immediate hang up and my phone doesn't even ring. They last called me Sept 2, but a few hours before those calls there were 2 other calls from local numbers that I suspect were test calls as they show call-duration zero.
Today I got a call from a local number with a caller ID I didn't recognize - I let it go to voice mail where a message was left, from a woman who identified herself (but did not match the caller ID name) asking that she be called back. She did not give a name for whom she was trying to contact or a reason for the call. This was before 9 am. Then after 9 am I get 2 more calls from 2 different numbers (caller ID does not have name information) and both calls disconnected immediately - as if checking to see if my number is valid.
So I'm looking at all this and I have to think that scammers don't work this way - continuously hammering certain phone numbers and now resorting to using different (local) phone numbers. These calls are likely coming from a legit debt collection agency. Now, do I or anyone in my household have any exposure to such an agency? No. But the name associated with my home phone number, which I've had for 20+ years originally with Bell, is a fake name, but it's the one that shows up in the phone book. So I'm thinking this agency is looking for the fake-name person, and my number is the best lead they have.
For those people that get calls from 8007274145 or 4167562096 and either answer the call or let it go to voice mail - do they ask for a specific person's name or say who they are wanting to speak with, and is it indeed your name or someone in the household?- Caller: 8007274145
- AileenMy son has an OSAP loan that he is currently paying off. He isn't living in this country, so he sends money from where he is. I get calls from these people expecting me to pay them. I gave them 1 payment but I've never received a statement showing that they got the money. However, when I pay directly to the gov't, I get a current statement per month. I will never give them any more money.
