- bigred replies to FLYER| 1 replyAnyone else notice "Guilty", "Owner" and some other posters: "Kerry" and "Paris'" - all have spectacular lack of punctuation and over capitalization. BAD CHECK is capitalized in each one. It's a distinct writing 'voice' and it's consistent.
Idiots. - bigred replies to FLYERI spoke to the 'owner' on the phone. He acted appaled at what his employees had told me and told me that person would have to be terminated. I called BS and told him he either takes a long time for him to fire people or all his employees are liars since this has been going on since April.
He said 'well, I am just one man, and have a lot of employees' . . stutter stutter lie lie. - bigred replies to LAMETI dont live in one of the 16 states either. HOWEVER - in my state a payday loan compnay has to be registered in MY STATE and the one Kevin claims I owe is not. I've contacted 2 state departments who invformed me that even if the debt exists it is unenforceable since it was granted illegally.
Not to mention collection agencies Also have to be registered in my state and BSW is NOT. Again, lets assume the debt is valid, just for kicks. . . them calling me to collect it is also illegal. - big red replies to rodeoReport it - GA State Attorney General, Ohio State Attorney General and FTC.

- emma replies to fedup kyhang up on them and file a complaint. let them keep calling and digging themselves a hole. I file a complaint every single time they call.
A coworker of mine gets similar calls from a different 'company'. We're not the only ones, this appears to be the crime de jour. - MaxThey called my old job because my former co-worker alerted me to it and when I called the number back numerous times, I was unable to get a live voice. All I would get was an automated system with one ring and then a sudden disconnect.

- Chiell| 1 replyThis company calle me today at work and threatened me with warrants and arrests and fraud from a payday loan that was back in 2008. I spoke with our Inspector General Officer he at work and this is totally illegal and they have no athority to say this and if you tell them to not contact you by phone again and only in writing they have to do that. You can get them for harrassment if they don't. I will next time record my conversations with them. Always get them on tape that way you have a legal leg to stand on.

Check out this site ya'll. It maybe helpful. I spoke with our Office Inspector General today at work and was confirmed that these are harrassment calls and are totally illegal. These companies that call and say they are attorneys are breaking the law. All you have to do is report them and ask for information in writting and they have to provide you something in writting stating who they are and what this is about.- Caller: Brown, Stise and Weissman

- Ms. H| 1 replyI have been receiving calls from this number and they stated that I owed $925.00 for a $300.00 payday loan dating back from 2008. They could not provide any documentation related to this debt or the contract from the original pay day loan company. I called the worthless check division in my city and they informed me that you have to actually sign your name on a check in order to be criminally prosecuted for a worthless check. I was advised not to give them (Brown, Stein, & Weissman) any information (banking or otherwise). This just does not make any since. I told them that I needed to investigate a little more as to the details of this situation. I have had pay day loans in the past and the policies state that you cannot be prosecuted for presenting a "post dated" worthless check except on a closed bank account.....so what makes this alleged law office think that they can prosecute a person when there is not a signature on an actual check......do not fall for this....I almost did.

- emma replies to Ms. HThey dont think they can prosecute. When I started asking enough questions (Like their bar asscn numbers) They started freaking and I got passed to the 'owner' who stated as much. They know what they are doing is illegal, they just hope that enough people will be too scared to question it.
I would venture to guess that every debt they are collecting on is bogus. They probablly purchased your information from someone. Kevins 'other' company Brown, Cooper Group, buys and sells debt. - well, really debt, or just personal information? I'm guessing the latter. But one package of debt was worth something like 23 million dollars. What that sells for I don't know. . . .
These guys are SOOOO crooked (and stupid) it's unbelievable. - cat replies to FedupKY| 1 replyis it possible they have some legitimate collection activities? i have a few old payday loans and whene I clal they give me namesof companys that I never delt with.
- it's possible replies to catbut seems unlikey based on other peoples experiences. If they legitimatley own the debt, they have to prove it. They need to be able to send you a copy of the origional contract, among other things. Also, depending on which state you live in they may need to have a liscence to collect in your state. If they don't - they can't collect from you even if the debt is valid.
The best thing you can do if you think you owe this debt is send them a debt validation letter (certified mail) and wait for a response (99% sure you won't get one)
You should also report them to the FTC and attorney general b/c even if the debt is valid - their tactics are illegal, and need to be reported.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! - peg replies to FLYERYou are right about the check. If you did not take care of it with the company your county prosecutor has a procedure to contact you and work with you to pay it, plus you have to take a class.
- texasdeb replies to AlfalfaThank you for the info. You may have read my 1st post. When I asked "Mr. Scott" for some documentation, he actually laughed. I told him I was willing to pay anyything I actually owe, but that I needed some sort of documentation since I had no recollection of this pay day loan I was supposed to have taken out. He laughed and told me if "the attorney" sent documentation to all the deadbeats that owed money he would spend mors on postage than than anything else. I again asked him if he was refusing to send documentation, he said he didn't have time for this c--p. He then said if I would ay right then, "the attorney" would offer me a "substantial discount". When I asked him what he meant, he quoted a figue that was less than 1/2 of the origiinall amt he claimed I owed. I responded that it sounded like a "mattress sale" kind of offer to me (you know, buy one get another 1/2 off or something). He got offended and yelled, he was going to have the attorney go ahead and file the papers, and then said I could expect to have the local sherriff showing up to arrest me for bank fraud.
What a jerk. - ICU replies to Knwo A Con| 1 replyHad you guys have paidyour debts in the first place you wouldn't be gettting those calls! Yes you have to pay and yes the call is a courtesy, and yes you can have your assets frozen for not paying! and DUH you can go to jail for writing a bad check! SMDH whoever said ignorance is bliss, did not mean ignore your debts! You borrowed the money and you need to pay it back simple!
- huh.. replies to ICUthe Walton County Sherrif's department disagrees with you there, slick.
