I received several calls from Brown, Stein and Weissman, and when I actually spoke to someone, he threatened prosecution, etc. I told him I want a letter verifying that, and the idiot emailed it to me! Then, he called and left a message. Each time they don't tell you they're a debt collector trying to collect a debt, that's an FDCPA violation. I contacted an attorney, who served them with a C&D letter AND lawsuit papers for FDCPA violations. They continue to call, on the 800-781-3445 number, I get an automated message saying I'm under investigation for check fraud, which I save on my voice mail and record for my attorney. I recently started getting calls from the 888-392-6130 number, leaving an automated message to return the call. Those are also saved to voice mail and sent to my attorney. My attorney is having a field day with them, because that's what he specializes in! www.fairdebthelpers.com is the website. If these guys are harassing you, make them pay you!

I also filed complaints with my state and GA attorney general, the FTC and the FCC.

They haven't called me since August. I think they gave up because I filed SO MANY complaints. My state has more requirements of debt collectors than the federal government so they are super in violation in my state!

Hey Brenda your bank should give you all the info. on these people and also you can tell your bank that they are being investigated for check fraud and u will get the $$ back! also post the #'s the called you fom and I can help with any further ?'s you may have!

I thought I did enough checking when these guys initially called me 4 months ago about some checks my husband bounced back before I met him.

After some unusual practices and an odd phone call this morning I decided to google 1-800-781-3445 (this number is no longer in service which was the biggest red flag that caused me to google it), wish I would have done that sooner

I have already "paid off" half of the so called debt and am kicking myself for not triple checking this in the beginning like my gut told me too. I got too caught up in the fear hype (we were already in a rough patch this just intensified it).

The message left today told me to call 1-888-392-6130

The new number they are calling from however is 1-678-672-6310

I already have the information to contact the FTC and my States GA, I am starting this process tomorrow.

I really should have listened to my gut instinct on this one.

They have 3 more new numbers
the 1st one is 918-848-8991  if you call it back it will tell you it is not a working number however they can cal out on it or it has been disconnected recently

2nd # is 904-302-9498 call back you get the recorded voice saying if you have recently been served etc

3rd 913-871-4028 call back and get the same as the above #

These guys just deleted any negitive reviews about them on Merchant Circle. Sheesh. I feel so bad for people who can't find out the truth about this company.

Brown Stein and Weissman was dissolved on the 25th of October. Happy Happy Joy! Although now it looks like our 'debt' has moved to something called "Group Genesis & Associates"  IT seems they use the same Tactics and are owned by an actual attorney. If they call you I'd file complaints to the GA State Bar Asscn ASAP.

Maybe, just maybe, if there were not people out there, like these phony collectors, none of you would be having this discussion. It seems that, if someone writes a bad check, they are given the chance to make it good. Not just put in "cuffs" and led off to jail for someone else to support. This country is in bad enough shape, and not one state will put a person in jail for one bad check. If these people are "repeat offenders" then maybe but, even then, they are given the chance to "make it right" depending on the situation.
Whoever is on the side of these so called "investigators" has got to be as stupid as they "think" the public is.
