For future reference, banks don't call people to try finding the right person it should go to. If they get a check, they just deposit it and during processing, find out if it clears or not. Banks don't just get a random unknown check sent to them either, someone has to try depositing it into an account or try cashing it, for them to even be aware the check exists.

A check I wrote for $5K was stolen from my mailbox on 11/2/22. On 11/8/22 my wife got a text from "Juan Lopez" from BOA, stating that a third party was attempting to cash the check, to call him. My bank confirmed check was cashed on 11/4/22.

That makes no sense if the check was stolen.

Either your bad at story telling or the check was never stolen in the first place and you just got a call from a scammer that was a coincidence of timing.

Patricia Colmes called me. The number on Caller ID was 844-585-0488, but the callback number was 800-797-7675. Same story as above with the check. They gave a lot of info. over the phone. Too much. Said a check was in AZ. Fraud dept.'s don't do that, but more importantly, who writes checks anymore?

Had a call from a mike.  had the details of the check and said it was being deposited into a BOA  account and wanted to verify it was ok to deposit.

I received a call from some lady Ava, she told me that there's a check in the amount of $8190 that was deposited into a 3rd party account that doesn't have my name on it from my account.  She left me a reference # also. The original number they called from was 866.818.3988, it's a non working number.  Lol I knew it was a scam because I haven't had a BOA account since 2014.

Caller ID was BOA CC Fraud.  They called my wife and left message about a fraudulent check and left a file ID to reference.  The number they asked me to call was (800) 797-7675.  There actually was a fraudulent check presented at our bank (NOT BOA) but our bank caught it.  They called about the check.  I called the REAL BOA CHECK FRAUD center.  There is no 800 number matching above and BOA CHECK FRAUD does not make outbound calls.

Caller ID showed a different number but was asked to call Bank of America back at 800-797-7675 with a reference number they provided. They gave us a check #, dollar amount and who the supposed check was made out to. The check was for over $46k! We Googled and saw that this is most likely a scam, but I also checked our bank and found that someone was trying to cash a check. The check number was out of sequence for us and issued on a date that we did not process checks, but it looked just like our checks and had an authorized signer's actual signature! Called our bank to report the fraudulent activity immediately. So, if you get a call, might want to double check your bank accounts.

Received 2 calls on voicemail from this number.  Both stated there may be fraudulent  check activity on my business account.  this is not a valid BoA phone #.

Received a voicemail from a man named "Lucas" on 1/21 to my business number stating he was from BOA fraud department asking to verify a check that was deposited on 1/13. The check number he gave was nowhere close to the actual number and I verified with my bank that no such check was cashed from my account. The number he gave to call back was 800-797-7675 and gave a reference ID which he very clearly repeated. The number my caller ID registered was 844-306-0436.

Same scam, caller impersonating Bank of America fraud department.

Received a voicemail from a man named "Robert" on 1/25 stating he was from BOA fraud department asking to verify a check that was deposited.The number he gave to call back was 800-797-7675 and gave a reference ID which he very clearly repeated. The number my caller ID registered was 1-800-427-2449.

What's concerning is he actually had details of a check that I'd written days before.

Definitely a scammer because those numbers are nowhere on BOA website.

Felica of BofA Fraud said someone deposited my check $5700 into a BA acct. Asked me to call 800-797-7675, left a ref #. My real bank alerted me yesterday about this forged check before this call. Didn't call Felica.

Voice mail from Gregory Bank of America stock department saying wanted to verify a check that was being deposited.

Please take this seriously, folks.  If you get a call from this number, immediately check your bank accounts, especially if you do write checks.
This happened to me in late 2018.  I am still not clear how this fraud works, and why in heaven's name they call you pretending to be Bank of America, but in my case they had fished a check I had written out of one of those blue mailboxes on the street in front of the post office, and cashed it.  It was made out to the town where I owned property for taxes.  They didn't even bother to change the payee.  They simply deposited the check into their own account.  The phone call from BOA's "fraud department" seems only designed to taunt you.  The caller may have asked for my social security number, but if he did, I didn't provide it.
What made the whole situation worse was my credit union's response.  The customer service rep I was referred to clearly didn't know the law, and implied that either I was lying, or that it wasn't their responsibility and they didn't need to refund me the money.
The fact is, it is your bank's responsibility to get the money back from the bank that accepted the check for deposit.  You may have to fill out a form, but your bank has to follow up and eventually return the money to your bank account.

A man called me, was very polite and had a nice calm voice, said he is from Bank of America, and then went on saying a person by the name of esponanza is trying to cash a $20k check. I said let me check on that with my accounting department (have no such dept) and said to him I will call you back. He gave me a reference number and this 800-797-7675 number to call back. Well you know what I did next, called my bank and quickly they told me it's fraud, they thanked me for not giving this person any further sensitive info. However, I'm thinking to call this scammer back when I'm in need of a nice smooth voice to fall asleep...

I received a call from an 844 number, but they gave this 8007977675 number as the callback. Said they were Bank of America. Gave a confirmation number. Correctly knew my check # and my $ amount. They also knew my phone number (to call me), but that's not on the check. They were asking for fraud verification. But when I called real BofA back (using a real phone number) BofA said they would never call me.

I am not even a BofA customer. But the person who had cashed my real check IS a BofA customer.

This is exactly like me. They had specific details of a check I had written a week before. But how did they get my phone number?

Data breaches are the most likely reason they know you had a check cashed by a BOA account holder, the rest can be obtained from the internet.
