- MikeIt took awhile to figure this was a scam. The intro message saying the conversation would be recorded, I was put on hold a couple times, etc. But the check numbers they gave me didn't line up to any of our accounts, in recent years anyway. The only info I gave them was two phone numbers. Egad, they're getting horrifyingly sophisticated. The call came to my wife's phone from this number: 866 500 8262

- Was Valid| 1 replyAs someone said above, check this out before dismissing it as a scam. Bank of America Fraud Prevention called the company owner's wife's cell phone (no clue how they got that number) with information about a check that had been presented by one of BofA's customers drawn on our business account in the amount of $13K+. Left the 800-797-7675 phone number and a reference number. It seemed suspicious, to say the least. However, I checked our online account. Indeed, a check for $13K+ had hit our account and been returned. I noted the check number and checked it against our QuickBooks. The check in question was originally made out for $3K+. Whomever obtained our check added a "1" in front of the amount, making it $13K+, changed the payee and deposited it into their account. I called Bank of America with the reference number. After determining that they were who they said they were, I notified them that this was a fraudulent transaction. They were great. I called our bank, advised them of the situation and stopped payment on the check, just in case. Guide yourself accordingly, but this turned out to be exactly what it purported to be. Sadly, this is just the way of the world now. Fortunately, there are some safeguards in place, which were effective in this case. Good luck.

- RayGot a call from 800-472-7970 alerting me that there may have been a counterfeit submitted against my account, she requested I contact her at 1-800-797-7675. She provided the check number and who it was made out to. When I checked, everything she said was true, but I'm alway skeptical of returning 800# call. When I did call the 7675 number, they wanted my complete account number, this was a red flag for me, so I contacted B of A directly and worked with the fraud department to stop payment on the check. Of course they couldn't verify that either of the 800 numbers as one of theirs.
My concern are.
1. That the check was indeed counterfeit.
2. That the information left was correct.
3. Why would a scam provide this information knowing it could be checked.
At this point I don't know for sure if this was a scam or not, I only know that I've never been asked for my full account number from BofA. I called the 7675 number a few times getting the same results from different people who answered.
A simple solution would be the ability to confirm the numbers with BofA. They should be able to tell someone if the number is viable or not.- Caller: B of A

- Adrian replies to TeresaI literally just got this call. I don’t even back with them.
- Fraud replies to Was ValidI received a voicemail at work today with this number and I suspect it fraud. When I called back the person on the phone was wanting to get the spelling of my name and would not tell me anything about the reason for calling. I told them that I would give my name if they explained the circumstances to the call. she let me go and said someone would call me back. Needless to say I haven't received a call.
