Same experience as other users from this number, very suspicious that they know the check info, particularly for BoFA users (I do not have an account).  Could be inside intel on held checks and or data breaches as others have mentioned.  Such as Experian Equifax or someone with access to those systems.  Scary stuff indeed.  Just be safe and ignore these scum.

We received a voicemail from this number (RICHARDSON CC H (972) 232-1313) claiming to be a person calling from Bank of America's fraud department to verify a check which came from our business. The number they gave to call back was 1-800-797-7675 and they gave a reference number. This is NOT Bank of America, it is a scam. Do not answer the call. The check they were calling about was deposited by the intended recipient a month prior and the fake BOA caller claimed it was presented for deposit at their bank and that we would be able to see an image of the check through our bank. Our business has fraud protection/positive pay in place with our bank which flags stuff like this and the supposed second check deposit never showed up. HOWEVER, the recipient of the original check called us 2 days later and said that their bank contacted them about the check being deposited twice and removed the money from their account. Our bank looked into this situation and found only one record of the check being deposited, which was by the original recipient, and no deposits of this amount were made back into our account. Thankfully, the recipient's bank returned the money to their account. If you receive a call from this number, email abuse@bankofamerica.com with the details.

Had voice message with same wording and callback numbers and "reference" number. Weird thing is they had my check number, dollar amount, name on the check and everything. Mind you this is a business account. Sounded very authentic. Checked the phone number here and found it was a scam. So glad for this service. Prevented me from calling!

It is possible it can be a scam, scammers have become very talented in spoofing numbers and etc. but this is a Bank of America phone number. I work for BofA.  Even though you may not use checks, does not mean that fraud cannot occur. It is always suggested that if you do NOT feel comfortable and call the number on the back of your card or the general customer service phone number 800.432.1000 and confirm if there is a fraud alert on your account. You do not want to ignore this and next thing you know your account is drained because you thought it was a scam.

this is a valid number. in my experienced they called to confirm a check that had been stolen from a mailbox.

This phone number is NOT as SCAM.  BofA Fraud dept called because one of our checks was being deposited to an account that did not match the payee name.  They wanted to verify that we wrote the check, and asked me to call the vendor to verify that 1) they received the payment and 2) they authorized a third party to deposit the check.  The vendor had not received the check and would never authorize someone else to deposit the check.  I called my bank (not BofA) to place a stop-payment.  My bank could see that the check was posting - that it was in process.  My bank checked the endorsement and found that it did not match the payee.  I placed a stop-payment.  I believe this was BofA trying to stop suspected fraudulent activity.  They never asked for any personal information or account numbers. They probably saved us and our vendor a lot of extra trouble and stopped whoever stole the check from getting any money.  The call-back # was 800-797-7675, and they did use a reference number for the case.

Same thing just happened to me, my check never got to the intended person; then I received a call from 1-800-797-7675 saying that there was fraudulent activity. I called the number and it sounded fishy.

Supposedly Bank of America voicemail directing me to call 1-800-797-7675. Also left a reference number. The woman who left the VM stated it was about possible fraudulent activity, that someone was trying to deposit check. I called back just to verify and the number wouldn't go through it said "User Busy."

Thank goodness I checked this site because like most people here I have a v/m from "Margaret" at Bank of America Fraud Department who says they received a suspicious check with my account and address but not my name, made out to somebody I don't know. Margaret said to please call at this same 800 number, here's the Alert ID number . .  Co-incidentally somebody just earlier deposited a fraudulent check to Bank of America that had my account and address but no name as account owner. My own bank caught that fraud, thankfully, but these people don't give up.

That wasn't a coincidence.  Bank of America called you to tell you one of their clients was depositing a check from your bank and the check was suspicious.  The fact that you confirmed that there was, in fact, a fraud check that was deposited at Bank of America proves that they were telling you the truth.  Take a second to think about why someone who was trying to commit fraud on your account would call you and tell you that someone is trying to commit fraud on your account.  This is a common practice with all the major banks.  They call the makers of suspicious checks to confirm if they are negotiable.  They don't want to give a criminal fraud funds because that is a loss to them.

Daryl of BOA Fraud Division.  Left message for myself or my husband's "real" name not the one he goes by, someone trying to cash a check & the check number.  We do not have checks from BOA.  Call was from 800-427-2449, with a call back number of 800-797-7675.

What sucks is that the phone number is legit for BofA fraud department . I still haven't figure out how perps are able to impersonate BofA employees. And it's those scammers that make our job so much more of a challenge because customers don't believe we are really from BofA and think we are the scammers 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Felicia S from BOA called from 1800.797.7675 with ref DEP3XXPM3 stating that two checks were deposited and my name came up as associated with the person depositing the checks into a 3rd party account and when they searched the person's name; my name came up as a possible associate; I did not divulge any personal information but these calls are out of hand what is the FTC and/or other agencies doing about this

Got bogus calls telling me to call this fraudulent number. Claimed to be Bank or America but BofA does not use this number. Total scam. Here's the transcription of the voice mail. "Hi my name is Manny I'm calling from Bank of America 's fraud department. I'm calling regarding a deposit that's being made by one of our customers. If you can give us a call back , you can speak to anyone here in the fraud department at the bank at 1- 8 00- 7 9 7- 7 6 7 5 . We are available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM Saturday 9 AM to 9 PM and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM . We do appreciate it response as soon as possible again my name is Manny . I'm with Bank of America fraud department phone number 1- 8 00- 7 9 7- 7 6 7 5 . You will need a reference number for this particular deposit that reference number is going to be in Delta . He is an echo he is in papa the number three and the x-ray is in is an alpha . 9 5 thank you have a great day…”

Fraud don’t answer they trying to scam you

I received a voicemail from "Joseph" - never mentioned where he was calling from - and he simply provided a reference number for me to relay when I called back. The number that the initial call came from was 800-871-1194. The message was left on my business line (I work for a museum/dealership) and when I hesitantly called back I was greeted by someone claiming to be from the Bank of America fraud dept. They asked for the provided reference number, my name, the name of the business, and the name of the business owner in order to transfer me to another area (the phone number for the transfer was 800-797-7675).

Once on the call, the person spoke in circles repeatedly telling me that this was a courtesy call to verify funds either incoming or outgoing (but never specified which it was, the format of the funds, the amount, nothing). We don't have an account with BofA but do sometimes do business with individuals/businesses who do so I couldn't initially be sure if this was legit or a scam. We are currently waiting on a check to clear for a customer who does bank with BofA so I was under the impression that maybe it was related to that. However, the person on the phone never gave instructions on what I needed to do to proceed.. After asking over and over for clarification regarding what this pertained to, I was told I'd have to wait for another call back from BofA (which I never received). The whole thing seemed suspicious so I decided to call the phone number listed online for BofA customer service to question the legitimacy of this caller.

The actual BofA rep claimed that they have procedures for verifying payments, none of which would include contacting the check issuer and she believed the call to be a scam since this is not part of their standard protocol.

This same number is STILL causing havoc. They are very convincing—tell you exactly who to contact because my stolen check was ‘washed’ and quite a large sum of money was taken from my bank account. I actually called them back…&’this is Bank of America. Our offices are currently closed’ hahahaha—um no. They are 24/7. I have been led in circles from my bank,BOA(the ACTUAL fraud line—they didn’t care),the police…thankfully I have some time to deal with this. SO BEWARE…800-797-7675

Scam still going as of May 2024.  Got voicemail from 8665006260 (spoofed?) "Russell".  No reason to have my phone number but got the right check issuing bank (not BofA), name, and even check number correct (stolen check, phished info, compromised data, inside job...?) Asked to call back 8007977675 with a reference number.
